The City of Austin is going on a hiring spree to keep you safe. It plans to add a record number of new fire fighters.

Austin, TX, located in the Texas "Hill Country" in the central part of the state, is constantly ranked in various surveys as one of America's best places to live. It's the State Capitol, as well as home to the University Of Texas. The cost of living is extremly affordable, and the city and surrounding areas have things to do for everybody, including a several very large recreational lakes for those that like to boat or be on the water.

Interesting, too bad it's just refilling open vacancies and retirement slots. It appears that none of these are new positions, but atleast they'll be back to fully staffed, which in today's economy is a huge win.

Well, not really. They are opening a new station next month, but those vacancies were filled via internal transfers, so they left openings with other companies. There are other new stations planned as well, but they won't start building until they have enough firefighters (passed their probie period). Then, firefighter will transfer to the new stations, tehcnically creating "new" vacancies.
