Greenwich CT Fire Dept / 2011 Expedition EL

3 posts in this topic

With the demands of the holiday season, we're a little behind in getting the photos and info on Greenwich FD's recent delivery but are correcting that now to provide a full complement of photos and info on the truck for other forum readers.

The new Car 5 is the on duty shift commanders response vehicle and replaces it's predecessor, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, upfitted and delivered by SWS in May of 2007. The Tahoe has been reassigned within the GFD and remains as a backup shift command vehicle or additional in the event of severe weather or incidents. The new Car 5 (a 2011 Expedition EL) is the product of much planning and many meetings to satisfy the diverse needs of the Greenwich FD.

The warning system is, obviously, all LED incorporating a Freedom FX lightbar, eight head Dominator in the front grille, split red/white M4 Super LEDs on each outer corner, two head Dominators in each rear side cargo window and headlight flasher. The rear of the vehicle has another eight head Dominator in the cargo window, four HideAway LEDs in the taillights and split color M4s on the outside of the cargo door. The Super LED floods under the rear of the truck are configured to operate with the OEM reverse lights and provide stationary area lighting at the rear of the truck for night operations. The Whelen lighting and siren controller has the secondary amplifier to generate dual tone siren.

The 30 inch Havis console contains GFD & Westchester County radios, map light, dual cup holder, 12V power outlets, storage box and Opticom function indicators. The Panasonic CF30 laptop is installed by way of a side mounted docking station. The cargo compartment Extendo Bed is configured to contain turnout gear, SCBA, extinguishers, IC supplies, meters and hand tools. Super LED compartment lights were added to the cargo door and interior headliner for general purpose lighting and were configured to operate with the underbody LED floods to provide overall rear utility lighting. A Kussmaul system with Auto Eject provides regulated 110 & 12V power supply to the laptop and modem when the vehicle is plugged in with a shoreline or on the road.

The graphics package includes red and white reflective striping and lettering, department seal on each front door and diamond grade cargo door safety chevron.

Specialty Warning Systems appreciates the confidence the Greenwich Fire Department places in us to provide their response vehicles. We strive to earn this confidence with every vehicle and look forward to working with them on other projects in the years to come.
