GREENBURGH — Donald Beretta, a veteran Ossining volunteer firefighter and Greenburgh police dispatcher who for years took on the role of Santa Claus, died Friday after a long illness, police said.

Beretta, 56, died at Calvary Hospice in the Bronx.

“He really loved his job and he really was the consummate public servant,” Greenburgh police Chief Joseph DeCarlo said. “He touched many lives and he will be missed.”
