New Haven - 2nd Alarm Fire 12-12-12

Date; 12/12/12

Time: Approx 13:45 hrs.

Location: 593 George St. (Cross of Orchard and Motley)

Op frequencies used: NHFD Channel 1 & Channel 2

Units operating:

1st alarm: Engine 9, Squad 2, Engine 6, Engine 11 (RIT / FAST), Truck 4, Car 34 (West Battalion Chief), Emergency 2 (paramedic unit)

2nd alarm: Engine 4, Engine 8, Squad 1, Truck 2, Car 32 (Deputy Chief / Shift commander), Car 39 (Assistant Chief of Operations), Car 31 (Chief of Department)

Special Call: Truck 1 (tower ladder)

Description: Heavy fire on arrival by Engine 9 on first floor of a 3 story structure, multiple exposure problems. Progress was being made but fire extended down into basement. Multiple pockets of fire throughout the building. Checked for extension in exposure #2 and #4 (focused). Special call next due engine for RIT / FAST, putting Engine 11 to work, multiple lines in operation.

13:50: Fire extended into Exposure 4, 2nd alarm called for.

14:50: Pulling all members out of the building. (2nd working fire being transmitted for Whalley Avenue and Ellsworth Avenue. Location is north of this scene by 5 to 10 blocks.)

NO UNITS LEFT IN CITY, M/A TO COVER (also had a gas leak in the Fair Haven section)

Units experienced water pressure problems at the fire. Fire was declared under control at approx. 15:30 hours.
