First responders get bomb-response know-how boost

3 posts in this topic

The conference room was full of about 70 police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and members of the military, but several people still gasped as they watched footage of a small bomb exploding in the desert outside of Socorro, N.M.

“This is what 10 pounds looks like when it goes off,” said instructor Judd Holiday, a former Sacramento bomb squad commander. “If you take that 10-pound shot and set it off in this room, most of us are not going to survive that.”

Holiday was one of several New Mexico Tech Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center faculty members who led a terrorism and suicide bombing incident response exercise for first responders at Chappaqua Crossing Saturday.

I took the bomb course in Socorro. It was excellent.

I've also heard great things about Socorro, I'm going to try to get out there sometime in the next year. There are some really good FREE classes out there if you know where to look.
