WHITE PLAINS — The White Plains Fire Department's trash is an animal's treasure.

The city's bravest donated 6,700 feet, or 1.2 miles, of worn out fire hoses to the Maryland-based nonprofit Hose2Habitat, which will use them to create play things, like balls and swings, and habitat enhancements for animals in zoos, sanctuaries and wildlife rehabilitation centers all over the country.
