LA County (California) - 60 Engines and 7 Aerials

The Los Angeles County (California) Fire Department has placed one of the largest apparatus orders in the history of the fire service.

KME Fire Apparatus was awarded the contract for 60 pumpers and 7 aerials.

Pumper Specs:

-KME Predator Chassis

-410HP engine

-500 gallon water tank

-25 gallon foam tank

-1500 gpm pump

Aerial Specs:

-KME Predator Chassis

-100-foot Tractor Drawn Aerial configuration

-470HP engine

-350 gallon water tank

-1500 gpm pump

Deliveries will start in late 2005 and continue throughout 2006.

Huge order! Can't wait to see these delivered. Thanks for the news.

That Predator chasis sure is becoming popular. I wonder how it will be adapted for LA County use.

Also, are all the KME's built in PA, and shipped out there??? They've got some operation out that way, especially now..

I heard a couple of guys discussing this at the Mechanicstown wetdown last week. They were concerned about whether Middletown's new engine was far enough along that it might get done before this big order got underway, or if it would get pushed aside until after. I didn't hear the specifics of what it's status is, but there was plenty of KME people around (and a few extra New Deliveries on display) so I'm sure somebody must have found out something.

Do you think KME has the current capacity to handle this, or will they have to set up an additional/new, seperate line as to not disturb other customers apparatus production????
