We have an area of old cottage type homes that have been added to and added to. So for the most part they are poorly constructed homes with chimney's that also fall into question. Because of this it seems that over time we have taken an agressive approach to chimney fires. It is not uncommon for them to spread into the attic or the walls. Our first due engine arrives and we split the crew two FF's to the roof with Chains and Two FF's and the Officer to the Fireplace or woodstove. The interior crew has a metal bucket, Nomex Tarp and water can. The Officer has the TIC. Second Due Engine splits there crew 2 FF to assist the roof team and 2 to strech a line where directed to. As per riding assignments the 2nd due officer reports with the roof team. This works well for us and have been doing if for years and like it. By splintting the crews up we can get the fire quickly reconed and put out and the chains down to eliminate the threat of extention. It can cause more damage to the chimney to drop the chains quickly and before the fire is out but it gets the fire out of the chimney and down to the firebox. We block off the entrance to the fireplace with whatever we have to keep the fire in there and have never had an issue of it flying out the bottom onto the FF at the bottom. If we arrive and the fire is blowing out the top of the chimney a line is streched to extinguish it. We have never use AFFF or the powder in a bag, Not sure why ,just never have Our third due (Rescue) goes to staging at the rear of the first due engine and awaits further orders. Upon arrival of any first due unit ,if they feel that this is more than a chimney fire the alarm is upgraded and our mutual aid preplan takes over We do not have a ladder, One is dispatched mutual aid for working fire only(don't get me started on that policy)

Don't use one , it takes me 5 minutes in traffic and about 3 minutes in the middle of the night, I don't see what good it would do to use it. We also dont allow new members to use them until after probation and we dont encourage there use. But we don't tell our members no

The Lake Carmel Fire Department had there elections on Thursday. These are the results: Chief James Hauth 1st Asst. Chief Justyn Lewis 2nd Asst Chief Shawn Madsen Captain's are David Churchill, Jack Keher and William Walters Lt's are Robbie Shannon,Rob Benson,Ron Paulson,Mike Bishop,TJ Donohue & Scott Pompei Fire Police Lt. Tom Filecco Amb. Lt Patty Erickson Most of these Officers are returning from last year or have been Officers in the past. The one new guy is TJ so I wish him the best in his new leadership role.

I've been watching every week. The Captain's a trip. I dont understand why they let the cheater stay.( the former nurse) But I really am enjoying the season and hope to see these guys make it to graduation.

As a kid growing up in Carmel and a huge wrestling fan , I will never forget when Capt. Lou was running the Ugly Bartender Contest to raise money for charity and bringing guys like Andre the Giant to Camel. He was a religous man who loves his faith and his community. He once stopped his car and chased a guy down main st. that was protesting something in front of the church, It was pretty funny. That protester never came back...lol RIP Captain Lou

I was the IC for this call. It was a very confusing scene upon arrival due to the call happening close to a nursing home and there ambulances from dirrerent companies in the area. Everybody wants to help when it's one of our own. Which was fine but when I stepped out of the rescue there were personnel from three companies running around and wasn't sure who was involved (patient) and who was there to help. But all went well with the call and the injuries weren't to back. They did have a patient in the ambulance at the time of the accident but she wasn't injured to bad. The cause of the accident in still under investigation.

Those old A-1 ambulances bring back some pretty funny memories, I haven't thought about those days in awhile.

As of noon today the search was still going on. They are looking for a 16 yr old male with a 6 yr old mentality. He has been missing since saturday. There a large group of people out today from many different Putnam agencys involved.

As a firehouse brat I have meet hundreds of firefighters. But Sonny was special and one of guys that I always remembered. Not only did he put in the time but the miles also.He would come back to Lake Carmel to help out with a wake then drive home to Wassic late in the evening without even thinking about it. As a lot of people know his health wasn't the best but he would do more than some of our younger members without a complaint He truly was an example for everybody in the fire service to admire Rest in Peace Sonny you earned it old friend- Ex Chief Robbie Shannon LCFD

One of Firematics main guys is originally from Carmel NY. He has wanted to sell apparatus to our area for years. I hope they are given a fair chance up here. I have talked to them a few times and they are like night and day compared to (some) of the people at Tyler

I will be going with Lake Carmel. Kind of special for me because I'm going with my son. A second generation explorer and my families fourth generation member of the fire service. I've been going to this event for a long time and it's still one of the best around.
