  1. Our Department, has had a set standard since the early 90's regarding Officers Training. Before reaching Asst. Chief, a person must have Intro to Fire Officer, Fire Behaivor/Arson Awareness, and Priniciples of Fire Investigation. Were currently looking into adding a CIMS course into the mix as well.
  2. Our slate for the upcoming year is the following: Chief - Pat Galluzzo ( Ex-Chief 1995,96) Asst. Chief - Sal Gentile ( Ex-Chief 1998) Captain - Steven Mancini 1st Lt. - Nate Palkewick 2nd Lt. - Ralph Forgione
  3. Our tower ladder had the pleasure of working with Engine 42 on Sept. 11th. 42 Engine and TL9 relocated to E45/TL58 on East tremont Avenue and Daly Avenue in the Bronx. Obviously it was FDNY's darkest day, but the day/evening crews we worked with were consumate professionals and true gentlemen. Before we started running together that day, we all met, went over what was expected of us in case we went "to work" etc. and truly the best was made of a harrowing experience. They were greatful for our response, as we were for there acceptance and hospitality. This only adds further to this forum in regards to them being (1) of the best.
  4. I believe last Friday, I recieved the email regarding the FDNY Mutual Aid plan that was sent to all Westchester Departments via DES Chief Gasparre. Did anyone else besides myself find the "training" requirements confusing. Is the recommended requirement set at Firefighter II or does Basic Firefighting qualify you to be able to participate. I must"ve read the email with my Chief about 10x, and the plan seems to contradict itself. If the standard is set at Firefighter II, I know my Dept. couldn't participate. If anyone has knowledge of the above please drop me a line ! Thanks.
  5. thanks for taking the time to answer this and trying to help other FF's out, and not making "toolbox" answers l
  6. Could or does anyone have solid information regarding when the above course was last offered at the FTC. I know the State has combined this course with Fire Behavior and Arson Awareness, and has ran the "combined" course at both Mountour and Camp Smith this past year. This is strictly for the FTC. Thanks!!
  7. Thanks for the responses. I am full agreement regarding the level of training required is paramount. But, how many Departments within Westchester are able to provide fully manned apparatus with FFII requirements. I know I had to decline participation in the plan due to the training requiremnts. I have at least 12 members with a combination of the required training, but considering CFR & FAST was a requirement and we don't provide EMS and I am still working on assembling a FAST we don't fit the criteria. Food for thought, how many other Department's throughout Westchester won't be able to participate? AND if obviously the paid Department's meet the standards of FFII who would backfill them?? Obviously, I'm straying a bit but just curious!

  9. I hope this doesn't strike a nerve, but I was just wondering if any Westchester Departments have AMA set up and ready to go in the CAD @ 60 Control. Please don't confuse Mutual AID or a special call by the IC. It's just seems that 60 Control shouldn't have to keep re-dispatching Department's over XXX amount of time before, someone either signs on or they request a Mutual Aid response. I was recently told that there's actually a time limit before 60 Control can move on ( Pls if this false, my apology in advance!) to a neighboring Department even if there's multiple phone calls "etc'. Also do any Dept's rely one a neighbor for specific apparatus on certain calls??
  10. As stated by N994, West Harrison once possessed a training building. The building was a 1-story block construction, that was in use until about 1998 when it was declared unsafe ( thanks, to an unmentionable neighboring fire dept!). The building was located on the the NIKE BASE property located off Park Lane. Yes, the Army once had a Missile Silo in Harrison ( Pre cold War). I believe the land was officially deeded to us in the latre 60's by the government. I believe the property is in excess of 20 acres. Also located on the NIKE base is the PD's outdoor firearm range. The building was razed in 2000 or so to make room for an additional water tower. This water tower was needed to better serve the residents of the ever increasing Fire District #5 in Harrison. ( Residents of the Park Lane Reserve.WHFD district). Around this time, the town "smelling" a winner, & took full control of the property for future undetermined use. After many a fight by past and present chief's, it appears to be full speed ahead for our training facility. The Dept fought very hard to acquire approx. 4 acres of land. With this property, the specs are out for a (3) story building, I believe L-shaped, with the following features. - (3) story tower for ladder ops - Rooms for smoke work and FAST drills, with a roof simulator similiar to WCFTC The first floor will have (2) fire rated rooms for live burns The outside will have an extra large concrete pad for vehicle fire and extrication work. I'm sure that I'm leaving plenty out, but the GREEN light is there for the project !! One last "tidbit", all expenses are from West Harrison's allotted budget, NO other Departments are kicking in! In the past, Downtown ,Puchase as well as NWP would come over and have multi-company drills with West Harrison, this has gone wayside over the past couple years. Hopefully in the near future, with the creation of this facility, the (3) Dept's will once again begin relying on each other, to get the job done !!
  11. The Old "266" was delivered last night to VMFD. With a little TLC that Engine will provide them with many years of service.
  12. That's is true, when we changed over frequencies, it was suggested to kick it down a notch or two, by 60 Control ( I believe) ; so the high exulted one (2501) agreed. Hope this helps everyone out
  13. I've been down Fla. for the past 10 days, and as far as I am aware the repeater is up and running! 453.925 was just re-programmed into the system in May or so!
  14. We expect delivery Sunday morning of RESCUE 35. This apparatus is a 2005 KME Rescue Engine. It will be replacing Engine 266. On Monday, KME is wheeling it to Baltimore for the show. When it returns, I'll put up the specs in regards!!
  15. So you mean, if my best friend is the Chief of Dept.XX they shouldn't be 1st due, and skip the 4 closer Departments ! LOL. As stated, it's a shame with the emerging capacity of 60 Control and CAD why should the IC have to worry about anything except how am I going to put this out. Is it a "tragedy" to get an Engine from X and a Truck from Y, turning wheel. If you don't need them, send them back. But it's a relief knowing that there on the way. Obviously, there could be an arguement regarding abuse with the above, but a little common sense goes along way. I know, what my Dept. has, but we NEVER get everything out the door, and even if you are able to, do you leave your district without coverage, until the IC can backfill.
  16. I've noticed on YFD posts that that they appear to be filling out first assignments. Is the safety an additional chief? and why roll a fire investigator on all possible jobs? Does he/she serve an additonal function to the assignment?
  17. Here's the deal; We approached this certain company regarding a cross band repeater in April 2002. The "completed" project arrived around October 2002, with the temporary frequency of 453.000. The company claims that the FCC has slated us for a Dobbs Ferry PD frequency, upon the merge of Greenburgh's radios. Until recently, our set up was operational, until the cab company started providing interference. Due to this, and many phone calls and yes threats of lawsuits and fines,(none received!!) the 453.000 repeater was placed O/O/S last Thursday, and replaced "temporarily" with 453.925. To my understanding, I believe YPD owns this frequency but hasn't relied upon it in almost 10 years ( if anyone has info, please provide). So for the time being, this is what our repeater has been programmed with.
