  2. Ok-lets flip this, what happens when the majority of the population is minority? I guess this would terminate the residency requirements for all? I dont think the Vulcans would give their blessing on this one!

  4. As I read this in disbelief it makes you wonder what kind of society are we out there protecting. This was a big setback for all in the fire service, whats next? We all bust our *** to do the right thing knowing the hazards of our job to help others.Total disrespect for those who have paid with their lives! Is it all worth it???
  5. From the Houston Chronicle" 7 Black firefighters sue,say city exam is biased. Seven blackfirefighters are suing the city, contending that the HFD test for officer promotions adversely affects blacks. Go to chron.com for the article.
  6. As you read through this article realize that SRO's are everywhere, no matter where you are these cut up rooms do exist. Many large homes in the Hudson Valley have been converted to multifamily homes illegally. From the basement to the attic you can find them. In OMD look for hints of seperate rooms. The more rooms the more money for the landlord. In this tough economic time people are looking for cheaper living space. If you encounter a place that may be an SRO, notify the local code enforcement/fire prevention unit and shut it down, As jeff states, conditions got bad real quick and they weren't able to get out, Be safe!
  7. Chiefs cars do not fall under NFPA 1901-they are in a category with utilities, from what i am told you can light em up anyway you want!
  8. With regret I post the passing of FF Mike Lamp of the Stewart Air Force Base FD,Mike known as "Lumpy" by many was a former member of the NY Air National Guard 105th Fire Department. He was also still working as a civilian Firefighter at the base. His untimely death will certainly leave a void @ Stewart FD. Services will be at the Bond Funeral Home 1614 Guilderland Ave Schenectady, NY 12306 SERVICES WILL BE POSTED AS THEY ARE FINALIZED! *Rest in Peace Mike.
  9. FF Mike Lamp- In center of Picture with cup in his hand:

  11. They haven't handled it just like the Hep shots and the NFPA 1582 Physicals!
  12. what about the lady who cleaned her bath tub with gasoline, didn't like the smell so she lit a candle! yes it did happen,She worked in MV city hall! One of the craziest calls i was ever on!
  13. Whenever I teach the ARFF class I mention to the students,"Someday a large frame aircraft will belly land in the Hudson", can we here handle the situation? Are the resources available? This time of the year there are not many boats available and yes right now the water taxi from Rockland to Westchester is not running because of ice. What can be done if it does happen? This would be a multi agency operation! Whats your thoughts? *Just to mention: The a/c was heading north and did turn around over the Bronx flying south to where he landed, not too far from the Westchester/Bronx line.
  14. Like any water incident, boat, jet ski, swimmer etc the incident originates in one spot and is finally taken care off usually away from the origin of the call. If we all can take notice as to how far the downed aircraft floated or drifted it should open some eyes, the river is a recreational playground but should not be taken lightly like many do to include some of us emergency responders. Alot of great info posted so far. Thanks Hudson
  15. From being out on the Hudson many hrs too include night from March-nov I have been amazed at the air traffic. WC airport- 1000 flts/day if my memory is correct not to mention Laguardia,JFK,Stewart etc. The numbers are there!
  16. Stew- no on the military side, the terminal side nysp, dep, (military)- periodic.
  17. Lol as always Chris thanks for the reply- Chris- in the event of a large incident like this who watches over the airspace that is in close proximity to the incident. Police, coast guard, military, news choppers buzzing the area like a bee hive? Almost like a air space IC? The incident this past yr at Con Hook Island- smaller incident with I am sure some confusion, has anything been revised with plans on the HR? You are right that a major plan needs to be in place. The WC Airport does have a plan but what about away from the airfield? No better example that 15 Jan 09 !
  18. West point/Stewart ang Base- I'm not really sure about WP (choppers) but I know that the assigned aircraft @ stewart airguard base would not be of any help. From reviewing the reanactment of the flight- I was wondering if the pilot saw the ice flow north of him which made him turn south? Stewart - NYSP,DEP PD and at times transient choppers are there.(choppers)
  19. A longtime resident of the Cortlandt Manor area with over 25 yrs in law enforcement. A line of duty injury which forced him to retire in May of 2001. Billy had many family members involved in the law enforcement field and will be missed by many.RIP Sgt Rice! Services: Jan 12 At Carters funeral home located in Montrose from 2-4,7-9. Funeral Jan 13th 10am at St Christophers Church,Rte 9A in Buchanan onto Hillside cemetary in Cortlandt Manor.
  20. Don't let this cold weather fool you,the other day I was out scouting for a place to go ice fishing and in some places there was only 3'' of ice, this bitter cold that is expected this week might change the ice but many lakes, ponds freeze differently than others!
  21. Just to update- Charles W Rice- his father was the bodyguard for Delbello, he is the son who passed away.
  22. GREAT NEWS!!! I just got off the phone with Frank Ricci and yes the case is still alive with a projected court date in april!!! This could have been the end for the "NEW HAVEN 20" CASE! After 4 yrs of dealing with this and thousands of dollars spent they will have their day in court! Best of luck "NEW HAVEN 20"!
  23. In LAYMANS terms- at any point in time that the "QUOTAS" have been reached the decree can be revisited! Not once that I know of has this happened, at this point on the firefighter level there is 11 more of them than us! And that is where that word Dissolution comes in, maybe someone from the JN would like to do an article on the decree from the 80's?
  24. Here is something from the late 70's: XV. Jurisdiction: This court retains jurisdiction of this action for such further orders as may be necessary or appropiate. At any time after 5 yrs subsequent to the date of the entry of this consent judgment, any city or state defendant may move the court upon 60 days notice to the other parties to this consent judgment, for "DISSOLUTION" of this consent judgment with respect to such defendant; and in considering whether the consent judgment should be so "DISSOLVED'', the court will take into account whether that defendant has complied with this consent judgment and whether the objectives of the consent judgment have been achieved! * ALMOST 30 YRS AGO,THIS IS THE LAST PARAGRAPH OF THE VULCAN DECREE THAT MUST HAVE BEEN DELETED OR JUST FORGOT ABOUT!
  25. Hats off to the YFD members, hang in there guys! jjc
