  1. Looks like another legal issue, NY public officers laws are interesting to read. "Failure to represent" might be another issue. Time will tell!!!
  2. Montrose Engine 121- A 1941 or 1942 Ward LaFrance, 500 gpm, had a split hose bed with bench seats on both sides covering the hose bed. Had rings hanging down from the railing at the end of the hosebed so the guys on the tailboard had something to hang onto. Maybe for the short guys? The 4 flashlights on the side running board were known as "wheat lights".
  3. In some cases you don't want a Chief in the Kitchen! lol
  4. U.S Equal Employment Oppurtunity Commission (EEOC): Retaliation & Work Situations The law forbids retaliation when it comes to any aspect of employment, including hiring, firing, pay,"JOB ASSIGNMENTS" promotions, layoffs, training, fringe benefits, and any other term or condition of employment.
  5. City Had until 3/14 to reply to the EEOC charges that I submitted back in January, after we recieve and review ,then we rebuttle the reply and we hope to get a "Right to Sue" letter then take the next step. retaliation is against the law and should not be tolerated.
  6. With deep regret I pass on the information of the untimely death of John Stewart formerly of Tuckahoe NY . John retired a few years ago making his residence with his wife Nancy in montauk. John was a hard working Firefighter/officer. He was an avid fisherman and was well known for his musical talent as a drummer with his band "Head First" with his long time friends in the lower Westchester area. Wake and Funeral arrangements will be posted at a later time. Rest in peace Stewie!
  7. Arrangements: Wake to be held at the Westchester Funeral Home in Eastchester, Sat 3/5,Sun 3/6 . 2-4,7-9 pm. funeral will be monday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe 0930 hrs.

  9. A guy asked me yesterday what the status is of the out of town list for Mount Vernon, I wasn't sure but I told him that the "In Town List" has been established and at this point i do not believe the agility was given for the non residents>if anyone can add to this please do so. Thanks jjc
  10. I got called around 4 A.M. but advised them I was low on Mustard and Ketchup! Couldn't take it in. lol
  11. Here's the scoop the way I understand it: At this point the "In Town list has been established', The out of Town list I do not believe has because there has been no agility. Now the question might be raised if they are going to even have an agility? Should they even bother? It costs $ to issue the written exams as well as the agility. So it might end up that all of you "Out of Towners" approx 170 of you who passed the written helped pay for the cost of the written/agility tests for the "In Town" list. If my math is correct 170x25= $4250.00. is it fair? Is it a good experience just to take the test? Now that the city Council has passed a resolution to charge "out of towners" $75.00 to take any exam it could be a good money maker for Mount Vernon. 170x75= $12,750 not bad! Thats the number (170) who have passed, not sure how many failed and paid the fee to take the test.
  12. Recently I took a step to file charges against the Fire chief in Mount Vernon for "Work Place Retaliation". The Human Resource Division in City Hall has recieved paperwork in a complaint form as required by the City Of Mount Vernon Harassement Policy. Charges have also been filed with the EEOC and from what I have heard have been recieved in Mount Vernon City Hall. Being involved with "Protected Activity" with the City any form of retaliation should not be permitted according to law. I will keep you all posted on upcoming issues. As always thank you for the support! jjc
  13. If anyone has seen the Test announcement for Captain/Lieutenants please post them. For some reason we (Mount Vernon) are the last ones to be notified.Last exam was posted in Feb and we still didn't hear about it until 30 days prior to the exam. Thank You.
  14. No discrimination there,Mount Vernon is a Equal Oppurtunity Employer!
  15. OK thanks for the reply--- Us out of towners have to pay $75 to take a test and $25 if you live in town.Shows how the city council might feel about us workers! lol
  16. If you haven't had the chance to view the power point of that tragic day I am sure that it can be arranged, Gene gave the power point to us last year at Stewart FD and it was an educational and emotional 1 1/2 hrs. Being a close friend of Jeff Cool I know that he would be more than willing to tell his story. If you are planning a seminar and you are looking for guest speakers with a topic that should concern all of us nobody tells the story better than the individuals who survived that tragic day. Be safe!
  17. Keeping records by documenting is the step in the right direction,if its not documented then it didn't happen! Filing Harassment charges within the guidelines of the dept you work for is also important but depending what goes on in CITY HALL can be a waste of time. From my experience I would file charges with the EEOC and within 2-3 weeks they will be at CITY HALL and they will conduct the investigation needed. If they feel that you were discriminated against then a "Right To Sue" letter will be issued. After you recieve the letter then you can present it to a Lawyer and decide which route to go.In a recent article "RETALIATION LAWSUITS" are the most common workplace charges these days. Its a shame that here in the Fire Service some so called leaders feel that they CAN DO what they want and are untouchable. They are not above the law so protect yourself and do what is needed to be done! If you Grieve it through the union be aware that the Union Bosses might not be on your page!
  18. I was 17 at the time and myself and a bunch of friends were hanging out in front of a friends house that was approx as the crow flys about a 1/2 mile away. The sky lit up as bright as day, almost like a scene from Orson wells "War Of the Worlds'. The sound was so loud of electrical arcing that it was almost deafening. We as teenagers thought it was pretty cool however in a short period of time we all weren't sure what the hell was going on.Fire departments were responding to Indian Point and again we all didn't know what to do. I remember walking back along route 9A in Buchanan into Montrose and the traffic was crazy. In front of the Montrose Firehouse we saw cars flying through the intersection at high rates of speed. Some of the guys knew that it was the transformers that weren't even within the nuke side of the plant so it was comical to them to see the reaction of others.I felt at ease from speaking to my father about what was going on. He explained to me about what they thought had happened. He put many years in at IP working as a steamfitter so I felt comfortable about not evacuating. It was along night waiting to see what was going to happen. We were cutoff from the outside world because of the outage. As the sun came up it was an eerie feeling and also a relieved feeling that we were not glowing lol. In the news the following days people reported that they evacuated with their familys and ended up miles away with no memory of how they got there. Panic was certainly in the air. An interesting night in the Tri-Village area.
