  1. The tankers are maintained and respond with the Metro North firefighters stationed at the variouse locations . When disptached the firefighters respond and meet the train crew who hook it up and go . There are 3 trains all identical . Two are in NY and one is in Ct . There are 5 seperate fire stations throughout the railroad 4 are volunteer and the one in Grand Central has 7 paid with appox 20 volunteer . So just like any volunteer fire company you have to assemble and wait the only difference is it takes a while for the trains to be hooked up and cleared .
  2. Nope and if I were you look out of state as no departments are really hiring anyway and there will be a 4 year wait till another test .
  3. They are a full career department staffed 24-7 like most places . They are in the process of getting a new steation built . They see a good amount of action mostly car fires but other stuff also
  4. I have two . First one was a Military Tank fire at the local park . Second one was my own house for a fire alarm .
  5. There usted to be on on K Rock a lot and Opie and Anthony usted to do a live read in the morning about volunteering .Opie even has realtives who volunteer somewhere in NY
  6. New Jersey Bought a few of these and lets departments operate them . They are for foam operations at refineries and for disasters where a water main is need . The state bought them along with foam tenders , foam deluge units and Air cascade units and USAR units and put them in departments in the North area for disasters .
  7. Congrats my sone Andreas was born Aug 1 at 8lb 11oz
  8. I am from Northern Jersey and I am in the process of getting on in Maryland it was a lot easer than doing it in my home state .
  9. Here in New Jersey all firefighters are held to the same standard .The academy where I work the careers classes are taught by volunteers. I think FF shhould be trained as one standered not by a pay check . Also before people yell at me I am a paid FF and volunteer.
  10. I will now add my 2 cents as a two hatters as some call me I do both . I have found that most of the hostility is by ignorence by both sides. On the volly side I hate the departments who only let their members complete FF1 and that is it they then ride the wave or the next 25 years and they know nothing. Along the piad side I hate hearing that volly stole jobs.I only know of one department who went back to volunteers after dispanding the Paid department and that was because the town did not have any runs to support the paid personell and when they retired they did not replace them. Once you add career firefighters you will only add more in the future not less. As per the people who get hired and always say well on my department we did this I say that is nice but that is not here so you are a probie so shut up and keep your eyes open along with your ears and nothing else.
  11. Avation is active but they have no permit home right now .As far as getting along I heard they have some problems .
  12. Where I ride in New Jersey the Ambulance squad does the rescue with Fd back up . The problem is that the squad does not have the manpower to handle it . About 2-4 gung ho members show up with there huge rescue truck and no ambulance . They tr to do the extracation but they neglect Pt care so the FD EMTs and Paramedics I being one of them end updping the Pt care because the EMS service is neglecting them.
