  1. This doesn't exactly help FDNY's argument against the Mayors executive order. The way gov't works they will probably discipline him with a promotion and put him in charge of policy and procedure. Also in the news article they fail to tell you that Danny Simone is the Engine 320 Chaffeur. =D> =D> =D>
  2. HAHAHAHAAA.....u da-man....THAT MADE MY DAY....STAY SAFE PAL
  3. [-X How the hell do you or anybody else know how fast they were going, wait for the investigation to be completed then give your @#$%$#@ opinion. Everybody is an Expert, with out knowing any of the facts. #-o  Its called the law of physics. I guarantee you that before that truck was moved an inch, six scrillion pictures were taken and any obvious signs of mechanical defect were noted by the Accident Investigator. If it was mechanical defect, which is always a possibilty ( though not likely) those guys are gonna have one helluva comp case. If you have been cutting people out of cars for any lenqth of time then you pretty much can figure out what happened without being an A.I.The issue at hand is to bring to each others attention so at least its in the back of our minds when we are operating a 20 ton piece of equipment. Opinions in this kind of forum are good.... if someone else can point out a safety issue that can help me then let if fly. BTW when are they gonna add a smiley face that I can flick some body the bird with....
  4. Why don't we just call it for what it is..... An accident! But without getting into a class on A.I.-If that truck rolled completely "THREE TIMES" he was most likely (and conservatively speaking) do around 55 mph. If nothing esle contributed, i.e. "T-boned him, mechanical failure, the driver and he alone, barring any other factors than was printed in the paper, is responsible for rolling the truck and jeopardizing his and fellow FF's lives. We all know that emergency vehicles are allowed to pass safely through red lights and enjoy the privelige (sic) of legally violating traffic laws but that does not negate the operator of liability if he causes and accident. No-one interviewed truly ripped into the driver..they just stated their opinion. And I am sure wht they stated it most likely what they perceived that they observed. I understand that you guys want to come to his defense, but, you should be outraged that he would jeopardize everyone's life while behind the wheel. If you don't feel safe with someone behind the wheel....then let it be known. There are a couple of guys that I just refuse to be a passenger with because of the way they react to stress and beat on the truck. You aren't very effective from w wheel chair or a casket. " I welcome all comments good or bad" Rick
  5. I aggree with x635 and that so long as everything is done tastefully/respectfully, then so be it. Sometimes when a person disagrees with your position it may 'sting' alil bit but its the best way to get a grip on any one topic. Understanding your opponent is key to strenqthening your own argument. I don't know one place in my life where I go to hear everyone aggree with me to make me feel better. I LOVE A GOOD ARGUMENT...LOL Stay Safe one and ALL Rick
  6. Those who live in glass houses...... By far I have seen on almost EVERY job the FD tramples through crime scenes and potential crime scenes. And then they get an attitude when the are escorted out. But funny thing is they loose the attitude at 0300 when they are being asked for their paperwork....being short sighted with big egos can definitely bite you in the butt. We could sit here and debate this infinitely. LE is trained from the start, the importance of preserving evidence. For many reasons if not for the fact that if the scene is tainted LE will be made to look like a fool in front of the prosecutor/DA etc. and/or juries. In addition, its our job...plain and simple. FYI what you are calling Hazmat incidents does not equate to what LE is seeing as a crime. So you see they are not taking LE away from Police work but they are training and equiping them to enter into a new era which is long over do. I don't think they will be calling for a Level 1 mobilization to throw down some kitty litter or patch a tanker. FD's are always crying about loosing their God given right to perform some sort of function and stepping up onto their Union soapbox. But they have no problem attempting and accomplishing taking over EMS (not NYC)and putting people out of work who TRULY want to do the job of an EMT/Medic. EMT's=$35K FF/EMT=$70K yeah thats a fiscally sound move. But thats for another debate. The argument that having LE present at CBRNE/Hazmat calls is not needed....well all I can say is that I have been dispatched to fire scenes because the FD couldn't handle a hostile crowd or they went to an oxygen call that was a crime in progress and had to advance to the rear. And as well they should because its not their job its an LE function. Stay Safe guys. Rick :-k
  7. Correct me if I am wrong, but, the theory is that the PD will have control over any type of CBRNE/Chem-Bio incident until it is determined that it's not criminal in nature or a "terrorist attack"? Then, at that point, a "unified command" will engage if its determined to be an accident/natural disaster. Just curious...is that the gist of the situation? Rick
  8. NYPD AVIATION RECENTLY TOOK DELIVERY OF THREE HERE IS THE LINK TO AUGUSTA'S NEWS RELEASE RICK http://www.agustawestland.com/communicatio...ews=139&yy=2004
  9. FORD NOW OFFERS THE INTERCEPTOR IN FACTORY BLACK AND WHITE. AND SINCE EVERYTHING COMES DOWN TO DOLLARS AND SENSE ITS PROBABLY A LEGIT RUMOR. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY AGENCY HERE IN N.J. IS GOING TO B/W. IT TAKES SOME GETTING USED TO BUT THE GRAPHICS CAN MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE. THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE A*S TO KEEP CLEAN. OUR REP'S ARE B/W AND MY UNMARKED IS BLACK AND IT LOOKS GOOD AFTERA BATH BUT TEN MINUTES LATER IT WAS LIKE YOU NEVER WASHED IT. RICK
  10. The FD in my City wanted to take over medical calls (from the P.D.) as first responders a few years back. The Union and the upper echelon of the FD felt it would be a great way to improve community relations and would justify adding more manpower via more runs tallyed at the end of the year. The PD had handled them without incident and quite effectively for decades. Well after a few months having to go out in the middle of the night (people here use EMS as a taxi) the FD decided they should given additional Vacation/comp days for their trouble. A CBA battle ensued. The FD lost.Since then, and on a daily basis, whichever agency the call taker sends the call to respponds. After taking over the F/R calls the FD decided that they wanted to go into the EMS buisness. Somehow FF's making 80K a year sitting in an ambulance is alot less attractive to the taxpayer when the Jersey City Medical Ctr pays their EMT's 12-14 pr hr. They still lobby to take over EMS with a straight face. The EMS we have in place is outstanding and the vast majority of them are extremely angry with the FD. I have seen it first hand these guys won't lift a finger to help EMS at a scene. Not even so much as carry a clipboard. My question to you gentlemen is.....why would the FD's want to take over EMS and deal with all the headaches associated with it? You guys have made some great points and I'd like to hear you opinions. JCESU
  11. Does anyone know what the requirements are for code 3 to consider doing a replica of a vehicle. We run the same wagons as NYPD/PAPD/Yonkers etc. I considered doing a kit bash but has anyone on here been involved with C-3 directly. Any info would be appreciated.
  12. I don't know if you guys have seen this site or not but, it is definitely worth checking out. http://hometown.aol.com/fdemswebsite1/page1.html http://hometown.aol.com/fdnyemswebsite/index.html The author makes some good points. I have my own opinion which I will reserve at this time. But lets just say that I have alot of respect for EMT'S & Medics...especially those who work in the inner city tune town world. Stay Safe guys, Rick
  13. GOT IT THANKS TERM NOT USED DOWN HERE
  14. North Hudson Regional Fire consists of the former Fire Agencies; North Bergen, Weehawken, West New York, Guttenberg and Union City. The merger at the time as claimed by Officials would decrease the cost to tax payers. By eradicating the duplication of effort i.e. one HQ instead of five and so on. I believe it actually has. Also I believe that Departments that didn't have such a great contract also benefitted. The Unions protested at first but that quickly died down so I can only interpret this as something that was a positive for their members. Some in the community were upset as a couple of fire houses were relocated that were landmarks in their neighborhoods for decades. Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken stand alone and are full time paid. Secaucus is strictly vollie. A major point during the public forum was that when there is a fire most of the time mutual aid was requested so why not make it one big outfit. The future will only let us know if their will be a South Hudson Regional Fire. I hope this helps and answers your question.
  15. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT PIAA STANDS FOR?

  18. Tim O came from a fine family of public servants. His three brothers are on my job. Well, what I mean to say is that his one brother 'Oakie' was an E.S.U. Officer for years through the rank of Sargent. After he was promoted to Lieutenant he suffered a massive heart attack OTW home from work. The other brother is an outstanding Street Crimes LT. And the fourth a Lt in IAU. The entire family is extremely popular on and off the job. Jersey City didn't have a dry eye in the city upon hearing the news. The irony is just startling that the DWI driver a FF. A very sad day for public safety personnel.
  19. We went to bid on a Mack MR Heavy Rescue. Identical to NYPD's spec's. And I know its alot different than an ambulance, but they beat the closest bid price by $50K fully equipped. When my Unit switched to light rescue style trucks in 92' they were built by PL Customs. The light rescues are gone but the heavy rescue is still in service! The F'in thing just refuses to die. Had some cosmetic work recently but we have a LIFE TIME warranty on the box so their was no cost to us. Also note that PL is a Ford dealer among others. This cuts down drastically on the wait time for your order. If you get the chance visit their facility its pretty impressive. Good luck and stay safe. ----R----
  20. Has anyone purchased a light rescue from Tri-industries? Or any other products. Looking for feedback.
  21. Hi Guys, new to the board. Quick question. Do you, working as a vollie, have to notify your auto insurance company that you are using vehicle to respond to calls? Either through company policy or state law? Just curious. And BTW the next time you get pulled over by a Radio Car with blue lights. Take a stand...demand an explanation from the Officer....j/k stay safe
