I'm not sure I like the part near the end of the video where after the interior rooms are knocked down, an exterior hand line is shown being directed at the structure while personnel are still working inside.

We'll never know who these clowns heard commenting on the video are, but that doesn't really matter, they're just ignorant. Remove the audio and watch the action and see if there is anything worthwhile to learn from viewing that, by itself. Think about is there anything you would do, or do differently, if this was your call.
What IS important to remember, as already pointed out, is the fact that "cameras are everywhere" and whatever you do (or don't do) in public may be recorded on video and wind up out there on the Web for everyone to see.

Crime cop hit the nail on the head....I wish I could vote-up your post more than once!
Mostly though, I don't get why the City even needed to hold a "press conference" Just because some punk skel running from cops who were attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant, turned on the cops with a knife and left the cops with no choice but to respond with deadly force.
Then they totally failed to control the audience who clearly don't give a crap about civility. After the first audience outburst they should have turned off the mic, shut the lights and said "this press conference is over, go home, goodnight".

Family & friends along with many residence of wonderful City of Newburgh are saying this guy was assassinated by the CNPD cops. They called the cops "murderers" too........It is very apparent that they do not know the meaning of assassination........it is also clear that they don't understand the definition of murder either.......a police officer protecting his/her own life, protecting the life of another police officer or protecting residents of the City cannot be guilty of murder.
The same people would blame the CNPD for not doing enough if this perp stabbed or killed another resident with his knife. The fact of the matter is that this perp threatened police officer with a weapon & they were well within the law when they used deadly physical force.

One thing that has always bothered me about these situations is that NO ONE in the media or even in the public seems to think about the officers involved. Do they think that it is easy to pull the trigger on another person? What is that officer thinking right now? Events like this stay with you for the rest of your life. How many times will the officer ask himself if he did the right thing?
My thoughts and prayers go out to these officers during this rough time.

AS soon as this shooting came out in the news I was sure that the family involved would follow the " skell shot by police " handbook.
    These guidelines include :
    1. no matter what you thought about the victim, go to the hospital, wait until you see someone with a news camera and then flop on the floor like a fish crying like the victim was your best friend.
    2. Make threats toward the police that you will get them for shooting your friend, etc...
    3. call for a special prosecutor
    4. get t- shirts made with the perps face on it and some catchy slogan like " rest in peace my dude, see you when i get there."
    5. no matter how old the perp was, release his communion photo or the picture from his first day of 1st grade to the media and tell them how he was a good person and was ABOUT to get his life back together and go back to school etc... oh i almost forgot, and tell them that he was an aspiring rapper that was about to be signed
    6. get a 40 oz. beer box, cut it in half, light candles , put them in the box, put half full 40 oz. beers on the sidewalk around the box for effect.
    7. No matter how much of a criminal your family member was, deny it even in the face of overwhelming evidence.
    8. when the grand jury returns a decision of No True Bill against the police officers and they are cleared of any wrong doing, repeat flopping on the floor like a fish, then hire some slick attorney that will tell the media that you knew from the begining that you couldn't get a fair and impartial investigation.
    9. file a lawsuit against the officers and the city of newburgh.
If I missed any please feel free to add to this list.
This list is obviously an attempt to make a little light of my frustration with the situation. I'm frustrated wih the fact that everything cops do is wrong to society, WE CAN'T WIN. I'm tired of nobody standing up to these families and saying " It was your family membes fault that this happened not the cops, end of story." God Bless my brothers from the Newburgh P.D. They did what they had to do the other night in the face of a deadly threat. The fault for this shooting lies completely with the perp, he shouldn't have committed a crime in the first place, second if he had a warrant ( that he obviously knew about because he ran) then he should have turned himself in. Third, if a team of cops approach you, don't run and fourth, when you are cornered by the cops, don't produce a knife and charge at them. Those are 4 ways this perp could have saved his own life but instead of looking at it rationally, his family would rather blame the cops. I watched that side show that was supposed to be a press conference. Having a public press conference was a mistake, if the chief wanted to give info to the media then you do that, not invite all of liberty street. If he wanted to meet with the family then he should have done it privatly not in a public forum.
Sorry for the long post guys, some things just get to me.

Listen, this is just blustering and good stuff for the papers to print. This is the first OUTLANDISH shot fired in a long war. This will be in court for years to come. There is no way that the city is going to pay out like that, nor are they going to allow this kind of precedent to be set. All that has happened is that one lunatic judge with an agenda has put his personal stamp on this case. It's going to be appealed and then appealed again and you may very well see this case dragged all the way to the Supreme Court of the U.s. for review.
If you're trying to get on the job, try not to worry about this stuff. It doesn't REALLY effect you or the chances you have on this next test. Just shoot for a top notch score and get yourself through the academy and onto this job. After you've done all that you can focus on keeping the integrity of this job for the future. There are plenty of us here who are looking at preserving it for the future, be it with Merit Matters or Pension issues this Tuesday in Albany. If you're a test candidate, take the exam and worry about doing well and staying in shape. You'll have a long career of getting into this job in every facet should you do well on this month's test.

Maybe we all need to head down to Florida and "take some notes" on how they did their consolidation. We should only need about a month, or two, Start in the Keys, and work north!

We originally formed the Westchester Firefighters Emerald Society after a few of us who were attending Westchester Community College for Fire Science decided to go forward with the idea. What convinced me personnaly was a quote from DC Bob Curtin, FDMV Ret. which I still remember tpo this day. Bob said we should start our own society "Cause I'm sick of marching behind somebody else." Those words did it for me. I was in!
The problem we have had with the NYC parade is that we always wanted to be early in the parade, somewhere behind FDNY. Well, nobody can just jump into that spot. There have been groups that have been in the Parade for 100 years and they don't want anyone jumping the line of march.
That's it in a nutshell. The parade is hours long and we cannot simply jump into the line of march that has been decided by the parade committee, which, might I add, is one of the most powerful organizations in the City of New York.

    In one case;
The Westchester FF's Pipes and Drums got formed under the leadership of some guys, like retired EFD Captains Timmy Harte and Rick Lynch (feel free to add to the list). The band rose to notice and was asked to march in between large fraternal organizations of FDNY firefighters.
Because of the vast number of FDNY members, it would take several minutes for the entire regiment to pass, marching behind the great FDNY Pipes and Drums who lead the way. To cut that up they inserted the Westchester band to help out.
It might have had something to do with TV commercial breaks and the passing of contingents by the viewing stand.
The Westchester Emerald Society had reformed in the '80's after the band. These members organized, under Lt. Joe Dolan(?) of the White Plains F.D., the color guard for the Westchester band. This lead to the Emerald Society members gathering to march directly behind their guys in the band, with the informal blessing of the city Brothers.
    Some other original color guard members;
    Tommy Moriarity NRFD
    Jimmy Lang FDMV
    Bruce Kerr RyeFD
In those original years of the Emeralds, the marching members out of respect for where they were and particularly honored, humbled, to participate amongst the members of the city, in their city, began to march in formation because they were numbered in few and actually completed the Westchester band's compliment.
Over the years, this lead to expansion of the people who started showing up and attaching to the emerald society. Finally, added for probably security reasons as much as anything else the parade peoples said the contingent behind the band had grown too large (it had with the stragglers), and would therefore have to...."disband." lol
"End of the Pack'ers" didn't help, as many who joined behind acted severely unprofessional. NO WAY the FDNY guys are going to let anybody come in there, on one of their most celebrated days, in the city they protect, endure injury and die for, and allow anything unprofessional that might be associated with the fire department. This became particularly important in the years following 9/11.
It went back to just the band and the honor guard still doing their job, last I heard.

Not every firefighter of color got on because of some court order or a quota. There are minority firefighters who went through the hiring process in the same fashion as the other candidates and didn't have to deal with Court orders and such. To do the right thing is give everyone a fair shot at preparing for an exam. I hope you see those of us as a Brother/Sister and not some "Black that took his Kid's job away".

Thank you to everyone on EMTBRAVO who supported E-306 and the YFD in the RescueRemodel Contest. Congratulations to Palos as I am assuming that they won. It won't be announced officially until the 15th. I haven't seen any evidence that Palos or anyone else did anything unethical or unfair. Give them credit for doing whatever they did to get the vote out, which is exactly what our guys accomplished very succesfully as well. Maybe IKEA will recognize that there was a legitimate issue with their technology which raised some suspicions and caused a bit of frustration and they will award two (or even 5) kitchen remodels- it would be even more great publicity for them...we'll see...
In any event, this contest has, I feel, been a needed morale booster for our guys. Also, although there is nothing official to announce yet, we have received several inquiries from both individuals and businesses who may wish to take on all or a part of a kitchen remodel for E-306. We will keep you all posted if any of that comes to fruition.
Thanks again to everyone who voted for E-306, and for your expressions of support.

Already there have been twice the typical expected number of tornado's reported thus far this year, and based on that it looks like it could be shaping up to be another very active spring severe-weather season.
The southern and mid-western states typically bear the brunt of these outbreaks, however we have to keep in mind that the northeast is hardly immune from seeing severe weather.
Let me ask you this: How many of you have a NOAA All Hazards radio receiver to get severe weather warnings broadcast from the National Weather Service?
In my opinion, having one of these is just as important as having (working) smoke and CO detectors in your house. Tornado's can easily form from within a thunderstorm under the right conditions, how will you know if you are in the path of one of these if you're asleep, or don't have a TV on, or you're just not paying attention...?
These radio's are relatively inexpensive and could even save your life. they come in desktop and portable versions.
You can sign up for severe weather text alerts delivered to your cell phone from WeatherUnderground.com or Weather.com, or you can get weather APPs for your android or iPhone.
Also many mid-to-higher-end programmable scanners will accept Weather Alert S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) codes to alert you to county specific warning broadcasts. See your instruction manual for programming steps.
(I still prefer a stand-alone weather alert radio.)
