  1. All this discussion about riding around with Santa, How many firefighters get suitted up in the cab while the rig is responding to a call? You can't get dressed with a seatbelt on.
  2. In the construction industry, there are many products made for fall protection. Rope grabs, self-retracting lifelines, various harnesses and landyards, fixed-slide rail systems. So many options for the construction industry, but what about fire service?
  3. A topic is beaten to death when nobody responds anymore. No group of people will ever agree on 100 % on any issue. Someone will always have a different opinion. Keep up the good work you have been doing by deleting "Inappropriate content". But, if I think a topic is "beaten to death", I don't or read it or participate in it and move on to another topic.
  4. What are your department rules as they apply to types of emergency and non-emergency responses? And the "rules" for operating the apparatus? For example: Full Emergency Responce - All lights and sirens all the time. Go through red lights, stop signs, etc.??? Wrong side of he road, wrong way up one way streets? How fast? 10-20 Responce - Turn off everything. Stop at all lights, wait for all traffic? I'm curious as to your department's rules and regulations.
  5. We tried that in Tarrytown as well. Braun wouldn't change the exhaust to the driver's side. They stated the chasis came from Ford that way and they wouldn't change it. I always questioned why the exhaust would be on the passenger / sidewalk side of the rig, when we use that side most of the time for patient care.
  6. Nobody has results?
  7. Can anyone post results from the Parade last Saturday?
  8. Hey X635 - Paris Hilton said she was on her way to In N Out for something to eat when she was pulled over. She must have read you review!
  9. UASI Hose Tender 2005 Freightliner/National Foam This hose tender is part of the Urban Area Security Initiative, and is used jointly with 6 other northern New Jersey counties to be prepared to deal with major regional events. It's part of a regional effort to deal with major catastrophes or terrorist attacks in a six-county region, comprising Morris, Union, Essex, Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties. It is one component of a task force that can pump out 5,000 to 8,000 gallons of water a minute or provide 3,500 gallons of foam in an instant. Delivered by the federal Department of Homeland Security, the equipment arrived in May 2005, and Schooley's Mountain firefighters are proud to be an integral part of regional security efforts. It carries 2000 feet of 12" flexible pipeline. 5000 GPM pump, hose wagon, nozzle trailer, and hose trailer shown. A mutual aid agreement enables fire departments to maximize the use of this equipment and effectively plan for its availability to the entire region, especially in those areas that contain critical infrastructure sites that are vulnerable to attack, while the local departments also can benefit by housing and utilizing such cutting edge, extensive equipment.
  10. The "old timers" at Phenix Hose like to tell the stories of that fire. I'm told three guys crawled in and were able to shutoff a valve and save the entire area from an explosion. I'm told it would have wiped out most of Beekman Ave.
  11. Were you involved with the General Motors propane tank incident?
  12. Tarrytown was toned out for mutual aid to White Plains and sent two engines. Our Mack had the open jumpseats so as we approached the crash scene on I287, I was able to standup and look over the cab. The orange glow in the sky ahead was unbelievable. At that point we had no idea what we were heading into. As we approach the overpass we started driving over all of the broken concrete from the bridge pier. Besides the fact that the tanker was shot up into the neighbor hood, the heat from the initial fireball cause the concrete piers to explode. We proceeded to put out what fire was remaining of the tractor, and then at the request of the troopers, covered the body of the deceased driver. The County gave out appreciation awards later on. Any conversation I have ever had with anyone involved was nothing but positive. Each and every agency/department involved came together just as mutual aid should.
  13. Squad 51 to Rampart Emergency!
  14. About 7:00am today, I saw someone running/jogging southbound on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow. I think it was a women and she was being followed by a camper with some types of sponsorship labels on it. I assume some type of run for charity or cause. Anyone know anything about this?
  15. Any ideas on the best way to clean and polish aluminum diamond plate?
  16. I'm told Metro North owns three cars that are either called "Presidential Cars" or "Executive Cars". They are labelled "MN1" "MN2" and "MN3". They are from the 40's or 50's. "Real Old" was how they were decribed to me. They are generally kept at Grand Central and are not well maintained. Custom made they contain kitchens, dining areas, lounge, couches and chairs. They have an old diner style look to them.

  18. A Real Home Improvement! Congratulations!
  19. Pleasantville area. Same issue. Comes and goes now for 2 weeks. Tarrytown area same thing.
  20. Hudson144 I don't dis-agree with the points you make, but the question was if a responding appartatus can break away from a responce to handle another call. A simple question. I think my answer was simple. It was only my opinion though. I'm no smarter than the next guy. I don't think it needed to blow up into a long drawn out discussion on mutual aid. Another topic should be started.
  21. How did this topic get to 9/11 and 'abuse of mutual aid"? Can't everyone just stay with the original question and topic? What a bunch of whine bags! Don't repsond on a mutial aid request if you cannot provide the necessary coverage for your own responce area. In most cases it is probably requesting a backfill of your department or a stand-by of your neighboring department in their quarters.
  22. If a department needs to have an engine breakaway from a mutual aid assignment to handle an assignment in their own area, then they shouldn't be sending an engine on a mutual aid assignment in the first place.
  23. The discussions, except for some, of the tornado incident have been facinating to me. The first hand accounts, especially from the chiefs in charge, have been great. For the most part there is open, hosnest discussion about the entire incident. This incident can be the catalyst for the next step. 1) The chief stated he wants to have a critique. This website can spearhead the event. 2) I can't say what resourse each department has and what they can respond with, how long to mobilize, etc. Start an section that will provide this information. As I think of more, I'll write. I have no complaints, I think this website is a great resourse and look forward to looking at it each and every day.
