  1. Let's be perfectly clear about this: the so called "logistical mess" was confined to the Westchester side of things last night. So the incident was going on for approx 45 mins before other Westchester agencies were dispatched. And Westchester was the mess? Verplank was the only Westchester agency on the initial dispatch and they were dispatch by 60 Control. I'm failing to see what was wrong there. Rockland units (Sheriff's marine unit, Stony Point FD marine unit, EMS on land) were all coordinated very well through 44-Control on Rockland's trunked system, including all involved agencies in direct communication on the Interop 1 talkgroup when necessary. The Sheriff's marine unit was in constant contact with Coast Guard Sector NY on Marine 16, and also had direct contact with the tugboat. They were also the first unit to board the vessel to provide aid. Stony Point's fire chief and marine unit were in direct and constant contact with the Sheriff's marine unit. Notwithstanding the fact that the location was initially mis-reported and it took some time for the correct location to be determined (it happens, especially at night on the river), there were no issues otherwise with the Rockland side of things. Then why call in Westchester? Note that this incident was on the Rockland shore, and that 44-Control notified 60-Control more or less as a courtesy than anything else. Somehow, that turned into 60-Control dispatching just about every fire dept marine unit in the county, along with the WCPD marine unit. 44 Control requested Westchester to Dispatch Verplank. It wasn't until approx 45 mins later that everyone else was dispatched to help find the "missing tugboat". You forget that someone was in distress? Perhaps the real issue here is that it appears that Westchester units are allowed to self-dispatch, with no one actually managing resources. That does not happen in Rockland. If 44-Control doesn't dispatch you, then you do not respond, plain and simple. Not sure where you get your information but you should research more. I was monitoring Fire 10 on the Westchester trunked system, and it was painful. You have a fire chief assuming command on the opposite shore 5 miles away from the actual incident? Really? Yes there should be a IC on both sides of the river when multiple agencies are working the incident. Are you joking me? Next time maybe Rockland doesn't bother to notify Westchester at all when the incident is on the Rockland shore. If garbage like last night is the norm for Westchester, and no one can control the response, then just stay home. Hey instead of trying to Monday morning QB this why don't you be part of a solution instead of the problem. Jybehofd and Bnechis like this Like this Quote

  5. Just wondering if anyone has some information on how to get in touch with this organization? I am not looking for Tri-state which most get it confused with. There is Tri State and there is Tri County and County is who I am looking for.
  6. Agreed, it could hardly handle the GM plant Traffic
  7. To bad that Tarrytown held that up in court, cause it was one of the 3 sites that the New York Jets put a bid in to buy the land to build a stadium
  8. Thats not the Verplanck Parade thats the Wounded Warrior Memorial. I was hoping someone could fix the page since it went wacko. For some reason I can not.
  9. Did you talk with Bill Losier from TZB he does a lot of those parades?
  10. Dont know why my post came out like that but I cant edit it either
  11. Beefed up security should have been for the JV game they canceled, as far as the V game it was fine, as Pete said we have seen worse. And I happen to agree as a former coach the "parent coaches" are the worse when it comes to a kids game!!!
  12. My point is for once I would like for someone to take a stand and maybe beef up security and let the other kids play instead of always giving in to a bunch of hooligans. Right away the first reaction is to cancel the "event" for safety concerns. Well why not do just the opposite in cases like this to send a message saying were not going to tolerate this kind of nonsense anymore. Problem with these kids nowadays is that they understand that they can pull this kind of crap and get away with it.
  13. 3 JV players from Ossining were sent to the hospital after being attack by 15-20 kids from Ossining after the Varisty game where Sleepy Hollow snapped a 9 Game losing streak. So what did they do? They canceled the JV game between the two.
  14. We did know they were closed, but did not know why.

  16. Look I am not here for a dick mesuring contest. I will leave that upto the people that like to do that. I saw a statement that bothered me and I spoke up about it because its total BS. I dont ever speak up on here. This time however I felt I needed to. This Career Vs Vollie crap is for the birds, were all here to do a job and all you boys can do is talk about whose better than the other. Heres a clue get off your high horse and work together instead of against. I never seen such nonsense from people that are suppose to be helping others. Dont worry I wont speak out again since its seems to get no where with some of you. BTW heres what I had the problem with. John Flynn said: I think it is very important that we continue to take opportunities when available to educate the public concerning the fact that monies which are donated to volunteer fire departments rarely, if ever, are used for purchase of firefighting equipment, or for training, or such purposes, but rather the monies people donate to volunteer fire departments are used for parties, extravagant dinners, vacations and excursions, etc.
  17. You mentioned that classes are there for you "anytime I want or have the time to"...Don't you think that in a profession (career or volunteer of course) as important as Firefighting, the training given to members should be fairly standardized and that certain levels of training should be mandatory, and not given just to those members who"want "the training or "have time for it"? NYS decides that for us. However I do believe that if you do have the time you should be training. But not everyone has as much time as others. Remember most Vollies are trying to hold down a job, Take care of a family and their houses while keeping up the hours at the firehouse and train. I do not believe that a little reward is such a big deal weather it come from donations or not, Remember we are getting up when the tones drop and leaving our families to take care of others without every knowing if we will see ours again. Like I said before Career or Vollie the Job does not care. A recent financial report shows that for the last five years members of the Irvington Fire Company have held a Christmas Party, attend a weekend retreat at Lake George and hosted a dinner at the Ritz Carlton; the money raised for these events and excursions comes in part from an allotment from a contract between the Village of Irvington and the Town of Greenburgh, in part from a NY State tax refund and in part from fund-raising efforts. This is over a 5 year span and people are feuding about it. Sorry but maybe those should get out of bed at 3AM to do the job!!!
  18. Mr. Flynn not all monies are used for parades and parties in the vollie world as you claim. The donations that are made are always there for the fire fighters to take classes when they can find time in their schedule to take such a class. For you to claim that the monies are very rarely used on equipment, apparatus or training is not only false but insulting. While some depts do goto parades does not mean that the right thing is not being done. Now before you go on the defensive you should know that I do not march with any fire dept or goto very many parties. This is just my thought and opinion. And the bottom line is that I know anytime I want or have the time to I can take any class I want because the monies is there for me. And like others say the job doesn't care about career vs vollie!
  19. New Tanker is sitting down at Excelsior.
  20. So what she was a drug addict and acholholic that hung herself. God I hate when people make big deals about some famous person(in which she was married to) But yet real heroes like our military don't even get a 30 sec news cast that they were killed.
  21. Was there am issue with a hydrant or something because in this video on my Facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100000341854484 it shows 133 pulling in then you dont see a line being stretched until almost 5:30 minutes later. Not picking on anyone just wondering what happened.
  22. No different then watching the New York Yankees or New York Giants march down the "Canyon of Heros" Since when are Athletes known as heros. Maybe the genius that came up with the name should have labeled it "Canyon of Champions" Either way I dont think any of them should be honored the same way as our Real heroes the US Armed Forces!!!!
