  1. Hahaha, I was tryin to be nice Turbo!
  2. East Fishkill Fire District (Dutchess County NY) ran to 3,114 calls in 2005, that is for both Fire and EMS
  3. Best browser out there!! Running it as we speak!
  4. Ummm, just by coincidence, I swear, I recently organized a party at my house with LOTS of free alcohol. Just don't ask where I got it.
  5. Sloper + Alamo = Slammo!
  6. This just goes to show firefighters are some of the toughest mofos out there! A valiant effort put up by FF Herbert, may he now rest in peace.
  7. Dutchess has no one main ALS provider. Each district/department can choose to use one provider over another, depending on each provider's coverage area. The main contract ALS providers are: 1.) Alamo EMS 2.) Mobile Life Support Services 3.) TransCare 4.) Northern Dutchess Paramedics EMS These exclude departments who have their own medics, like paid or combination departments (i.e. Arlington, LaGrange...) For obvious reasons, hence the name, Northern Dutchess Paramedics cover the northern Dutchess area, like Rhinebeck, Amenia, Millerton, Red Hook, many more that I can not think of off the top of my head, but those I listed are just a few. A complete list of their coverage area is listed on this page of their site. Mobile Life covers a few districts in the southern Dutchess area, currently Village of Fishkill, and East Fishkill. Alamo has a variety of contracts around the county, from the southern end of Dutchess, like Rombout and Beacon, up to the ALS provider for the City of Poughkeepsie. Transcare is the provider for the Town of Wappinger, including the departments of Hughsonville and New Hackensack.
  8. Sorry badge13, but ex67-1, I agree with you completely. A hoseline should not be stretched at an LZ, but yes, you should be prepared to in the event of an unfortunate catastrophe. It has been my experience that an LZ can change. Fast. In one incident, a landing zone was setup and coordinates given to Statflight, yet upon their approach, they did not like the area, and chose their own. A line had been pulled at that particular incident, and it was a sight to behold, watching guys scramble to gather up the hose, and throw it on the rig and have the engine relocate to the second LZ. There is a Helipad where I work at IBM East Fishkill, and used to be used often by execs traveling in and out. It is still an active pad, just not as much as before. Also, guys at IBM Emergency Control have told me that it has been used before, for Medivac purposes, for industrial accident injuries, even as recent as a few months ago, before I began working there. It is my understanding that they do go standby at the helipad for incoming and outgoing medivacs, but i do not know about regular commercial traffic!
  9. East Fishkill FD has a District pickup truck that is used for all odd jobs around the district, as well as to tow the Wildland Fire & Rescue Unit trailer, as well as the Cribbing Trailer if called to do so. In the winter time, during snow storms, it is usually manned with someone to run out and plow driveways for EMS calls if inaccessible, as well as to plow out access to dry hydrants. If this rig is tied up somewhere, members in their POV plow trucks have been known to run to the scene and plow whatever was necessary. East Fishkill FD - 39-69 - 2003 GMC Sierra
  10. Yes, Saint Francis has a Helipad, right near the main entrance road, on the left hand side as you drive up the hill. I am assuming it is just a precaution though, why they have Fairview FD respond with an engine for every landing. Personal opinion, I think it is a smart idea to have an angine there, I mean, why not? Ok, some peop may go for the argument of taking manpower out of service, but hey, it is a precaution, like most of the things we do in the fire service.
  11. Beautiful rig! Best of luck to the guys in YHFD with this new apparatus!!!!!!
  12. I can say I have sat through FAST where you were one of the instructors alsfirefighter. I just wanted to correct something I stated earlier. I had said the for every 2 person team, there needs to be 2 FF on the outside, whereas it only says that if there is anyone operating inside, no matter how many people, there has to be AT LEAST on 2 person team outside! Sorry for any misquotes, or bad info on my part!
  13. First off, I apologize for this, it is a pet peeve of mine. FASTeam, not Firefighter Assist and Search Team team, its redundant. Secondly, the only REAL requirement is to have 2 QUALIFIED personnel outside for every team of 2 inside (OSHA CFR1910.134). As long as there are people on the outside who are qualified, and or trained to handle a situation where they might have to rescue someone, an "official FASTeam" does not have to be in place. It tends to be easier having an outside agency, to free up your own personnel to do the main activities involved with search and rescue, ventilation, suppression, etc.... Having your own department acting as a FAST, sometimes emotions can get in the way of job functions, of a fellow FF were to go down, at least in my opinion, and if an outside department is there, yes it is a brother/sister FF, but it is not "one of their own", if you know what I mean. Again, a disclaimer, this is just what I have gathered, and my opinions, these are not to be held as law, or "the way things SHOULD be done."
  14. I'm with you 648. It is winter. If it is going to be cold, at least give us some snow. If it is going to be warm, stay warm. At the least, I just wish that the weather would make up its mind! So, since it is so cold, bring on the snow!!!
  15. Set of Vise-Grips with an attached dog leash, like a metal chain one. Also, would suggest a length of webbing or short length of rope.
  16. Of course not, I hope you did not think I meant anything of the sort by my response, I agree with you fully asstchieffd!
  17. FF304 hit it on the head. Aggressive and proud, sure, that is a great philosophy I hope and wish ever firefighter has, but there is no excuse for incompetence. I am sorry that such a grand overstatement of stupidity had to come from a chief. He did have one quote that I did agree with. "If they are afraid to get burned they are on the wrong job." I say that only because it IS one of the inherent dangers of firefighting, but COME ON!!!! Do not go out there with the intent of burning your firefighters, that accomplishes nothing more than workmans comp issues, as well as downtime for FF who are out on medical!! Ok, sorry, my rant is over! -xfirefighter484x
  18. You would think people would know better. As I have said in the past.......stupid people = job security.
  19. For sure, my favorite commercial!!! Although, the one with the guys on the roof was pretty good, the caveman/dinosaud FedEx was my fave by far!
  20. Ok, I know I am a total loser for posting this, but I am so bored, and thought it was pretty cool. So I buffed my 1st fire today. I missed the initial dispatch, but heard the update, and transmission of 10-75 for the City of Poughkeepsie (Dutchess Co. NY for those of you who don't know) and was sitting in my car up here at school. Between certain classes, I go to move my car from one parking lot to another, where I keep my scanner, heard it, and thought, what the hey? So I made it there after initial suppression, they had it knocked down pretty quick from what I heard. I have sent photos to EMTBravo, and hope he has time some day to put them up, but I do understand it takes time and effort, so thanks ahead of time if he does! Ok, I am done with my ranting and raving, time to get back to class!
  21. I go to DCC. I was lucky enough to have just gotten out to my car and heard the 10-75 being transmitted.
  22. They have been emailed to Mr. EMTBravo himself, just have to wait for him to get a chance to put them up on EMTBravo.com! Once they are up, and you would like any copies of certain pictures in particular, get in contact with me, and I can get you whichever you would like! Also, like I mentioned before, I do not have any pics of suppression, or venting efforts, just some overhaul, and packing hose. Hope that helps some!
