Problem not solved, and more problems created. Again, this is lifted directly from the Fitch study that the county government commissioned in 2008.
Anyone who works in a flycar paramedic system knows that EMD in this county does nothing to appropriately manage resources. I work in three agencies that all receive direct dispatching and EMD from 60 control. The first issue is that 60 control is inadequately staffed to provide consistent EMD - anyone that gets the ipage notification on their phone knows this ( the "no EMD due to call volume / staffing" note at the end of the text), the second issue is that many of the primary PSAPs (local PDs) don't properly transfer the 911 caller to a 60 dispatcher. If that weren't bad enough, a medic gets sent on every job because the paramedic is the only resource in this county that is GUARANTEED TO SHOW UP.
I know i'm not the only one who has been stuck on scene for an hour waiting for a bus or has had to RMA patients that require ALS care because they know they can get to the hospital faster than waiting for the ambulance. All any media outlet would have to do is FOIL 60 control response time records (i'm assuming they keep some sort of log) and boy would they have a field day.
I guess the point i'm trying to make is that the problems are numerous and have metastasized across the county. I look at Putnam & Dutchess (both counties i have previously worked in) and wonder how in the hell did they get everyone on board with centralized dispatching, at least for fire and EMS.

Its honestly pathetic. There's a national standard that already exists, but some places still want to live in the stone age and pretend its not necessary for them. If you don't want to EARN the title of Firefighter then I don't want you on my rig.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU. It's about the community you're supposed to be serving and the level of service (and competency) they expect. The fact that they don't know the details is no excuse. They deserve it.

Sleepy Hollow has donated there used surplus engine full of supplys to the Broad Channel F. D. who lost everything in Sandy. Hats off to them for taken care of fellow New Yorkers and NOT sending that like new engine to South America !

A whole lot of stupid caused this. It should never have happened. Other contractors working the area questioned the demolition techniques for weeks but never said anything because the city's Licenses and Inspections people approved it.

Right now the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV's) is the subject of intense debate. Several states have or are passing legislation that would ban their use, even (especially) for public safety purposes, citing privacy concerns. One bill in Missouri is written so broadly that it will even ground law enforcement helicopters except for use in "life and death" situations. Existing case law on the subject has created "reasonable" altitudes for "searches" to be considered "not intrusive" and almost all UAV's fly below these altitudes creating a whole new issue to be resolved. If you think the issue of guns and car stops and bullets is a gray area, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
The FAA is also still wrestling with how they are to be integrated into the system so I don't think they're going to be popping up in a lot of places soon.

Seth, just my thoughts but I believe that any Logo should be one that encompasses FD, EMS and LE to properly represent the platform of the forums. While I understand that the name is EMTBravo and I would never advocate a name change I feel any logo should be inclusive of the valued input that is generated on the topics by all three disciplines. Again just my 2 cents.

Let me help you guys out alittle bit, when Sleepy Hollow when to start developing on the GM lot Tarrytown made a big stink that it would cause a massive increase in traffic and they went to court that was 2 years ago. Finally after the court decided it was crazy they threw the case out. Now they are dredging out the riverside to remove contaminated soil once the soil is removed building can start.

I doubt it. Maybe, hopefully one of the streaming networks like NetFlix trying for original content will. NBC actually cancelled "Southland" after one season, and TNT picked it up and rescued it. I personally feel that the 8 months between seasons is not good for the show, and TNT and cable in general has way too many crime dramas.
That news sucks. All the reasonably accurate shows seem to get cancelled, like the "Chicago Code" on Fox, despite ratings or even giving the show a chance. I don't understand how they cancel shows that are ready to go before they even get a chance. They'd rather show celebrities diving into pools, or glamourize idiots such as most of MTV does.

How many pedestrians are run over by city buses in a year? Probably about the same number. Where's the outcry about that?

We have to stop trying to legislate responsibility!

Its a place of business. The particular business is to protect and serve the people of a town and or city. Do these folks drink at their place of paid employment? I'm betting not, so why is this any different? What amazes me about volunteers, (not all of them) is the fact that they will argue to the death that they are of the same quality and held to the same professional standards as Career firemen yet they go around pulling crap like this. Its pathetic and it truly does separate the REAL firemen from the boys.
Drinking is no place for the firehouse.

guys, i dont mean to sound like a complainer or whatever people call it these days, but saying congrats to ME or congrats to these certain people, is a bit rude to all the other brave men and women who completed it and took the challenge "your" people did to. i was suprised to see some of us that have been in the fire services for decades to write something like that.
so, to say it the correct way, congrats to ALL firefighters who took the course yet another job well done folks.
