  1. New Fairfield CT has used the Morse Code system for about the last 6 or 7 years
  2. A few years back when I was working for a local hospital I got called to the Emergency Room to help cut a seat buckle off a kids finger. The finger was through the seat buckle hole and had swelled up so much the ER couldn't slide it off. I had to used a Dremel tool to cut it off.
  3. When we spec'd out our Chief car a couple of years ago we spec'd out white stripping on a white car. The lettering is colored and we have a double light bar on the front of the roof and a yellow directional in the rear. Also front grill lights and side lights. During the day, with lights and siren going and proper driving, the car is very noticable and gets around safely. My biggest concern was visibility at night and the white stripping reflects extremely well with oncoming traffic. I have used the Chief car to block off roads at MVA's to help protect the scene. My greatest concern was visibility and with the stripping and the side lights we accomplished that.
  4. Since the time they built the house next to E45 for L58 (which was L27-2) and B18 they had separate kitchens for cooking and eating. What they did was on alternating months one company cooked andthe other one did the housewatch which was shared ashared area. There was one pass thru at the housewatch and one in the back of the apparatus floor outside the kitchens. About 1990 they made an opening in the wall between the two kitchens and made the truck side the kitchen and the engine side the eating area. There are still separate offices, bunk rooms and locker rooms. Before the truck side was constructed the battalion was on the engine side.

  6. It is probably a great tool but be very aware of what is being printed on your site. Remember others are reading these posts and you wouldn't want something there that will look unfavorably on your department.

  8. It was a wrong way driver on 84 hit a car head on at the Route 7 connector. One fatality and one adult and one youth injuried. the calls for the wrong way driver started around exit 1.
  9. Take a ride on 684 sometime during morning rush hour and watch what people do there. I've seen men shaving, women putting on make up. a driver reading a newspaper and a girl using one hand to talk on a cell phone and gesturing with her other hand.

  11. It didn't work when the FDNY was forced to do it in the 70's why would anyone think it will work now. If you can't pass a test or physical or you don't score high enough to get a good number on the list then you don't deserve the job. Let's remember lives are at risk. Minority groups are given more opportunity for practici ng for these tests then any other group. More money is spent on recruiting minority groups then other groups. I've worked with plenty of minorities in my time on the job and most have done a hell of a job. I don't care who you are, what color you are, what nationality you are, if you can't pass the test you should find another job.
  12. If the death penalty is out of the question then maybe the judge can commit this guy to life in that tent prison down south, the one in the middle of the desert. There he won't be able to visit with his family, if he tries to escape then it will be a death sentence. He can run around in his pink underwear and drink his coolade and watch discovery and sweat like he is in hell.
  13. There is a right way to do things and then there is the wrong way, we all agree on that. We all want information as soon as possible and sometimes get inpatient while waiting. In cases like this, I agree, it's best to wait and get the proper information out at the proper time. Great job EMTBravo staff. If you can't agree with that then, well, sorry. As far as the suspect, I hope they will add on one count of assault for each brother who got hurt and 2 counts of attempted murder or manslaughter for the other two brothers who had to go out the window. This guy should never be allowed to set free.
