  1. And im not even in Rye right now..lol...in school at Auburn (#5 on BCS baby)....
  2. If im correct, which i may not be.. the new ladder will become 25 and the current 25 will become 26 ..it may be the other way around. Rye has the following with the following designations. Engine 191 is first line with the paid driving, same goes for 192 and ladder 25. Ladder 26, engine 193 and the utilities are volunteer driven. Each rig has its own company comprised of volunteers; however at the scene due to the usual number of men, each person does as instructed and most likely will go outside of his company's description unless the turnout is such that we have enough people from each company. The paid guys rotate as to who is driving which rig. Volunteers respond POV unless the second line apparatus (or Utility on MVA'a) is called out. If a volunteer is at the station, they can ride out on whichever rig they can. In my experience, the volunteer rigs respond to mutual aid standby in other districts quarters, the paid guys respond if the mutual aid is directly to the call. Hope this all helped. any more questions, feel free to ask
  3. anyone know more details?
  4. I think this is one of the most prominent fires in my mind. The night of September 10th 2001. In Harrison, just off of north st. It was the biggest house fire I had seen, it was a huge mansion on fire. The fire was so strong that the odor could be smelled at my house off of forest ave. in Rye and so that we called in to the FD in fear that one of the then vacant houses on our street was on fire.. Does anyone else recall this alarm, I've been wondering if it sticks in anyone else's mind other than mine...... 343.....Never Forget!!!
  5. I thought you guys spent a whole bunch to have the ladder refurbished...so why now replace it?
  6. I'll try to get a pic up of Engine 192. It has been having some technical issues and is currently out of service....
  7. Rye's Engine 192 is the only one in the country with a graphic of a clam on the side.
  8. Jeep's gotta look out tho...the new Toyota FJ Cruiser is gonna give the Wrangler a run for its money.
  9. How many departments up here actually have the special designted "RIT pack" that goes with the quick fill valve (near bottle connection) on the newer packs. We have one in Alabama, and until I saw it, I didnt know what those valves were for.
  10. Down here at the Southwest Lee County Fire Protection Authority(southwest FD) in Lee county, Alabama, we have four ways of making money. The first is through the "Fire Fee" collected from the citizens every year. The second way is through grants, to my knowlege every grant we've requested has been given. We also sell the syrup at what is called the syrup sopping fesitval in our district. Lastly, we charge for incidents if the property owner does not pay the Fire Fee.... -hope this helps

  15. How long does a normal EMT basic class take to complete?
  16. I am now a member of the Southwest FD in Loachapoka, Alabama(1 town over from Auburn). The department has 2 E-one engines, 1 cab over and 1 commercial cab as well as a brush truck. The coverage is about 55 square miles, with hydrants(but not many). The calls are about 65% medical. Entirely volunteer, the department is comprised of mostly students. I begin my training tuesday. Apparently in AL, FF1 isnt required for volunteer departments, so the training is all in house. More updates as I get more into the department.
  17. News everybody...hehe...Started my training tonight. Got my gear, Janesville in the darker tan. Can start responding now, while having training 2 nights a week. More as things progress.
