  1. If you look at the pictures on the link you can see that there is an extension ladder set up to the roof. I believe it is on the side that ladder 14 (the Aerial on the street) is located. To me being a truck chauffer (for a short time) it wouldn't be a hard decision. I would stay on the street unless people were trapped.

There are currently 2 ways off the roof on one side. That would be the minimum that I would want if I were working up there. One on each side of the front. If there are more on the back that would be even better.

As for the Aerial on the hill, I think that it is placed as best it can be in the rear without seeing more picture of that side of the building and the ground. If the chauffer has the brake on, the front wheels chocked, and only operates directly over the cab I have no problem with that. Just as long as he doesn't sink it in the dirt/mud.

  2. I got on the job about 2 years ago and I had about a week and half notice. Average from most people is about 2 weeks not much more than that. It can be as little as one day as previously stated. I guess they figure if you really want the job you'll quit your job right away. I believe the next class starts in April. Not 100% sure on that though.

  3. There is no big difference between the  2. The only difference between the 2 is that a Tower Ladder has a bucket at the end of it.

I can't say a lot for rigs outside of NYC but inside Towers Are a hell of a lot slower to set up, in operation and to drive. The aerials can get set up and operate a lot faster. But the city likes towers to be in front just in case the building is lost and you can work a little better from a tower. But always remember quicker saves can be made from an aerial. ;) Can you tell what I'm a fan of??!!

  4. Hfdr19 is correct. that is the 1920's tiller sitting behind Walters. By now it is probably not worth restoring if anybody wnated to. I was interested in the 1965 tiller. Last I heard it went out west somewhere. And interested in finding the locations of the 1973 mack from COlumbia. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you to those who have posted here.
