  1. Guess they're selling it because the motor finally died...
  2. For those of you that don't know who the merchant marine is, it is the fleet of U.S. civilian-owned merchant vessels. Seeing as how 9/11 was a few days ago, and I just found this video, I think this speaks volumes about how much the merchant marine is ready, willing, and able to help in times of need. So, If you have 12 minutes,
  3. So because this person is a friend of yours, we can't talk about a big operational error that he made? So that means if my friend isn't wearing his gear right, or not wearing it at all, I should just overlook it because friendship comes before safety?
  4. PPE? Absolutely this is a problem with the lack of PPE. Especially from the CHIEF of the dept... What if the wind shifted and blew a piece of burning insulation towards him? Any protection from burning material with jeans and a t-shirt? And what would happen if he were to lean too far over, or the wire breaks and he jumps back from surprise.... If this is the way management runs the place, get me out of there...
  5. I'm surprised we haven't seen the Evergreen Supertanker down there. That thing gets work done.
  6. You do remember what county we're talking about, right?
  7. You are correct. It usually is a rule that scrubs are not to be worn outside of the workplace, as they may carry a multitude of things on them.
  8. Woohoo. Ill be deployed
  9. Anyone know what's going on? Helicopter has been using a spotlight for the past couple of hours on the river side of the mountain... At one point the bird got very low, as if to engage in hoisting ops, then flew off toward Newburgh and is now back searching again. There also appear to be lights on the mountain...
  10. Thinner.. Works on boats and cars, just watch that you dont take the clearcoat off(if there is any)
  11. Heres a better thing to think about. What if the horn is set off by tones? Ones that I could think of are Montrose, Buchanan, and Verplanck. These three departments have one tone for the house siren and one for the pagers. So if the pager system is "down", and by down I mean the radio tower went down, then the siren wouldn't work either...
  12. It would never happen. The people that control the district are the fire commissioners. Many are ex-vollie chiefs, and/or are associated with the VAC. This would be "taking the ball away from the child" and simply would never happen.
  13. Great PR while his guys go to work.
  14. Mark Z, the department runs in the neighborhood of 1300 fire and 2600 ems in a year. The career firefighter will take one of the 4 flycars out of a substation to respond as ems first response and provide on scene care until the ambulance or ALS arrives. The district is 42 square miles.
  15. All of the road signs on the Taconic and Sprain and some of the mobile construction signs all had: "MOVE OVER FOR EMERGENCY VEH. ITS THE LAW" Good way to get the word out.
  16. But what about the departments that don't have the room to put anything there? Oh yea, they go spec out a $13.6 million dollar fire house with 20,000 square feet, and build a museum there. And where does that money come from....
  17. Anyone know what's going on over by the Throggs Neck Bridge? There are 4 NYPD harbor units, one FDNY marine, 1 USCG cutter, and two Nassau harbor units. There was also an NYPD helicopter overhead. This is as of 2pm.
  18. Ahh, that would make sense. A NJ state police helicopter. Just came over and circled.
  19. For that quint, are there any large hills it has to climb which warrants that slope in the rear end?
  20. I don't see this as being an issue. For busy departments, check it every shift. You should be checking your rig anyways...
  21. That one lit up from the engine bay.
  22. That was their newest engine, aside from an 02' walk-in rescue.
