  1. How do I get rid of the numbers next to the shoutbox tab?

The I/A's area on the homepage is still funky with a mix of I/A's and thread topics.

Some topics are still showing up in the upcoming events too.

Also having issues viewing some of the advertisers on the homepage and shoutbox page. Not sure if that's related to the photos or not.

Font sizes on the shoutbox page (portal, members, etc) seem a little small (same goes for the quick navigation and search tabs) or just not bolded.

Using Google Chrome through Windows 8.

  2. Due to budget issues in the city of Syracuse (NY), the city has been forced to close the firehouse for Engine Co. 7. The firehouse reportedly is in dire need of repairs and the city would rather close the house than to fix it.

Engine 7 and its mini-pumper is/was the busiest in the city and often responded 2nd, 3rd and RIT to structure fires.

The crumbling station needs $1.26 million to make it comparable to the city's other fire stations, said City Engineer Mary Robison, quoting an engineering report by C&S Companies. Repairing the weakened floor would cost $185,000 for a seven- to 10-year fix, or $300,000 for a 20- to 25-year fix.

The station's fire truck and mini-pumper were among the busiest in the city, due to its central location and ability to provide back-up to stations in all four directions.

Fire Chief Paul Linnertz said closing the station would not significantly impact response time to the major institutions on University Hill. The fire engine would be moved to Fire Station No. 1 downtown, which could respond in roughly the same amount of time.

  4. Shown below are the two cameras boxes in question. Was this story really faked to gain a free camera or was this for real? Many of you may have made up your minds but for me based on my own extensive research I believe this story is true. Not so sure? Then please continue.

After communicating with Jalal again I thought it would be a good idea to ask some more questions to help explain this freak situation he found himself in and to clear up any rumours that may be flying around the net.

    Updated Story

  5. It could happen and if you think someone wouldn't try this I think you are mistaken. Just my opinion.

I don't disagree with you there, it's certainly a valid point you make. The author of the story was skeptical as well and did some digging and the more she digs the more this person's story checks out. The site refuses to issue a full refund. The most they're willing to give is a $100 coupon, which they claim is the largest they've ever given out.

Now that said, there's a reason why I posted this story in the "You can't make this stuff up" category. It just sounds too good to be true, lol

  6. I am very skeptical with this story. First of all, if you are documenting an unboxing it usually is a Youtube video so you can share product info with others. I have never seen an unboxing documented with photos before. Whats the purpose? And, if you were to photo document an unboxing, why take pictures of you cutting open the shipping box. Sounds like an elaborate scheme to try to get a free camera from Dell. I don't believe any of this story.

You'd be surprised. A lot of people document unboxings via photos. It's not all that unusual. How is this person trying to plot an elaborate scheme to get a free camera when he had paid for it already? That doesn't make much sense.

Also, there is apparently going to be a follow up story coming. The original publisher posted in the comments section in reply to someone who was just as skeptical as you. It hasn't gone live yet due to the person still waiting on an official reply from Dell management. I'm going to keep monitoring the site and when the story does go up, I'll post the follow up in here. It will be up at F Stop Lounge.

  7. Most of us would agree that it is quite exciting when the UPS Truck pulls up with some new gear that we purchased especially when it’s a new camera body or lens. Like kids on Christmas morning we can’t wait to unbox the new toy and put it to test. Sadly one photographer opened the box not to find a new camera body but floor laminate. Read on to learn about his experience, see photos and find out which nationally known dealer did this not just once, but twice to him.

As a long time buyer and preferred member of Dell.com, Jalal of JZPhotography, was excited to learn that they would be willing to lower their price on a new Canon 5D Mark III to just about match the same prices he was finding online. He placed his order over the phone with Dell customer service and was shipped what he thought would be a new Canon 5D Mark III with the 24-105mm f4 IS lens. A huge upgrade from his current 30D camera and one that he was extremely excited about. Fortunately, Jaleel documented the unboxing and took pictures of his whole experience with his iPhone 5 which later turned into great evidence to show what he received instead of the new camera he expected.

  9. The union representing New York City school bus drivers announced Monday that its members will go on strike, effective Wednesday morning.

The strike by Local 1181 of the Amalgamated Transit Union will disrupt transportation for about 152,000 students.

As CBS 2’s Lou Young reported, union bosses filed grim-faced into a Midtown news conference Monday afternoon, having just made the decision to go all the way. The school bus drivers’ strike will be the first since 1979.

“While we remain optimistic that we can reach an agreement, we are here today to announce that Local 1181 will strike effective Wednesday morning,” said union president Michael Cordiello. “This is not a decision that we have arrived at lightly, but an action we must take.”

  10. The conference room was full of about 70 police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and members of the military, but several people still gasped as they watched footage of a small bomb exploding in the desert outside of Socorro, N.M.

“This is what 10 pounds looks like when it goes off,” said instructor Judd Holiday, a former Sacramento bomb squad commander. “If you take that 10-pound shot and set it off in this room, most of us are not going to survive that.”

Holiday was one of several New Mexico Tech Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center faculty members who led a terrorism and suicide bombing incident response exercise for first responders at Chappaqua Crossing Saturday.

  12. The FDNY officially opened EMS Station 13 on Jan. 7, which will serve Washington Heights and the surrounding communities.

“Now I know at first it may seem like a simple ribbon cutting ceremony to open a new facility, but this is really the culmination of years of effort by so many in this Department,” Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said. “And today, I’m proud to say this community is safer and better off because of this new station behind me, and because of the caliber of the people who call it home.”

The new station is 3,136 square feet and contains a supply area for advanced and basic life support, a vehicle supply room, a decontamination bay and parking for spare ambulances. It staffs 17 ambulance tours and three EMS officer tours each day. “This is a thriving, dynamic area that deserves the best EMS station,” Chief of Department Edward Kilduff said.

  13. So, I've really gotten into this show, and for a TV Drama, it's fairly accurate. The way they do things, is, in some cases, better then I've seen real life people do it.

Ditto, I've gotten to the point where I have my DVR set to record it so I don't miss it if I'm out or watching something else.
