  7. I came across the John S. Damrell this morning. Boat looks amazing, major upgrade for BFD! The wharf doesn't allow for the best photos without taking a swim!
  8. Interesting article on how forensics is changing how investigators are looking at fires/arson. My link
  9. Article on Boston Fire's new Chief,Steve Abraira. My link
  10. I remembered an article from a few years that AMR had partnered with AEV to produce a safety concept ambulance. Link to that article is below. Second link is to the updated safety concept vehicle. Does look like they have a preferred manufacturer. I wonder if they are going to shop around with manufacturers for different areas of the country. www.emsworld.com/news/10408381/third-next-generation-safety-concept-ambulance-unveiled-by-amr-and-aev www.amr.net/About-AMR/Safety-Concept-Vehicle.aspx
  11. I was reading the thread which took me to the Empress website and saw this. I am curious what does the SCT stand for? Thanks! Empress is now hiring SCT Paramedics and experienced EMT’s for a new contract in Westchester County…
  12. I found this article on Boston.com about the push in MA to get Narcan in the hands of police and fire who aren't on EMS units. I wonder if this will gain any traction. My link **Moderator Note** This posting was merged with a pre-existing thread already discussing this topic.
  13. If I remember correctly, and things may have changed, but the medical members of NCLF were volunteers and the pilot was a NYS Trooper. The primary mission of the helo was law enforcement and it was tasked for EMS when needed. I remember they would return to quarters and be called out on a LE mission. The medical side was a flight nurse and EMT or EMT-P. Also great crews to work with. Upload happy tonight, I included the Eurocopter BO 105 that they used to use and what they are currently flying.
  14. I thought I would add some photos from the area as well. St. Mike previously handled NICU transports for hospitals in the area. I thought I had a picture of their Medium duty NICU truck but can't find. I included an older UVM truck, 2007 PL Custom, at the FAHC helipad with North Country Life Flight. Others are Burlington, VT 2009 Osage and E1 E One. Sorry, SMRS is not the best quality.
  15. I still believe UVM is entirely student run, it has been since it inception and was when I was a member. St. Mikes has a paid college staff member that oversees the operation. UVM is student run with advisers from the university. I could be wrong as time has passed. St. Mike also runs a student staff FD that handles campus calls and mutual aid in the area of VT. St. Mikes built a beautiful new station and has added some nice apparatus over the years. All great organizations, great places to practice EMS and live. Thoroughly missed on my end!
  16. Boston responded to a 6 alarm fire early this morning. Multiple rescues, child dropped from window to FF. Fire was started as a possible suicide attempt. Article and video links. My link My link video My link
  17. A young woman fell 4 or more stories through a skylight in a commercial structure in South Boston last night. Victim's friends unable to confirm which skylight she fell through and shaft could not be reach from interior of building. BFD had to open up walls in attempts to find patient Patient was located and pronounced on the scene. Boston Herald Link Boston.com Link
  18. This article was posted on FB by BFD's Local 718. I am curious as to how this will play out. My link
  19. Update on the original posting. Not surprised this was the outcome. My link
  20. Not sure where to start on this. Saying that fire based EMS is the only way to go is tough to swallow. I think this video does a disservice to those that work in non-fire based EMS. Are we on the same side or not? There are a lot of excellent providers at all levels in those services. I included a link to a blog post which touches on this topic as well. To me putting the patient first and providing excellent care is what matters, not the uniform or vehicle you arrive in. My link
  21. Photos from today's annual Roslindale Day Parade. The Boston Police Patrol's Association wagon was great! 1952 Chevy.
  22. Interesting look at trying to save and work with the water you have. My link
  23. Great, article, company! Nice to see "Made in America" as a priority!
