  1. Who cares? Not I, beside isn’t this the same state comptroller’s office That’s in charge of the distributions of the lotto money revenue to the school? We all know how that is working out.
  2. "Last year, my proposal to bring the two departments together stalled in the Board of Legislators." IT wasn’t the County Board that stalled consolidation. It was the Fire Departments in Westchester that told Astorino NO this isn’t going to work and it isn’t going to save any money. It is now time again to have our voices heard. If Mr. Astorino doesn’t hear it this time then he will hear in the next election. The Fire Dept is Westchester also pointed out many ways to save taxpayers money but Astorino rejected these coast saving measures.
  3. Happy Birthday Seth
  4. Seth, I want to thank you and everyone else for the kind words and best wishes. The accomplishments you credit me for achieving was a team effort. I have had some of the best officers that any chief can ask for, and this goes for the guys who aren’t even around anymore. When I was sworn in as assistant chief in 1996 I had set goal for myself and the officers and I set goal for our dept. I am proud to say 95% have been achieved and the other 5% are well on the way. As someone once said to me “leadership qualities are something you are born with” well I disagree with that statement. A true leader looks to learn, listen and educate others every day even when he or she is no longer the leader. Ralph Nader said it best, "The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers." Thank you again, but make no mistake about it I maybe an EX or Past Chief but I will always look out for Yorktown and the fire service best interest. Past Chief McGannon
  5. The Shenorock Fire Department, I am going to have to add them to YHFD M/A run Card. Chief Byrnes can you supply me with SRFD equipment list so I will know what calls I can add them to. 2531
  6. Although safety is a number 1 concern, it isn’t the reason Yorktown switched to a walk around. When the committee started working on the spec 3 years ago, it was decided on then we would go to a 6 man cab. Knowing that walk-in boxes have the greatest loss in compartment real estate.
  7. I am not one for replying to posts or discuss Yorktown Fire District business on this or any other forum. But it seems that many have an interest in what goes on in Yorktown. So I will try to answer all the post. First and foremost Yorktown has had a replacement program for many years. When apparatus reaches a particular age it is put in to an active reserve. Engine 275 was well past that age at 27 years old. Two: Yorktown returned to the RED scheme back in 2002 when Engine 270 was ordered. Three: REDTRUCK brokered the sale of Engine 275, and was told if they can get X amount for the Rescue the district would sell it. Four: If X amount is not met Rescue 16 will be renumbered as HM-4. Yorktown far surpasses the requirements to have a HM unit. The District is not looking to sell off the rescue to offset the cost of the new Rescue. Unlike a number of government agency and banks Yorktown Fire District is financial responsible! I hope this answered most if not all your questions. (Let no man’s ghost return to say his training let him down)
  8. For all curious minded individuals interested in knowing about the status of 275. 275 was sold to a small town just outside of Fayettsville, Arkansas, for a 5 digit sum.
  9. The new Rescue will respond out of Station 2 (Locksley Rd.) The spec call for a 6 man cab and a walk around body, with NO cascade. Oh and yes it will be RED. The members of the committee worked very hard on the spec's, making sure they put together a rig that will best suit and work for Yorktown. I would like to thank them for all the work they put into it. Also all the members for there input. Old R-16 will be re-designated. 2531
  10. You should follow the old saying; fight the fights worth fighting for. (Choice your battles). One battle would be making sure that those who are teaching our young drivers know the laws. The other day I was behind a vehicle that had 3 young people and 1 that appeared to be the teacher (driver’s ed. teacher). The giveaway would be the sign on the vehicle that read student driver. I don’t know when I was learning to drive they taught us to pull to the right and stop when an approaching emergence vehicle with light and sirens were on. Not this teacher never pullover causing the medic car and ambulances to have to cross the double yellow line into oncoming traffic. At least those people know enough to pull over. I guess what I am saying, is that it doesn’t really matter what color the light are or what kind of vehicle you’re driving. We have to start to reeducate the public. By doing this along with more visible scene lighting we may just reduce our LODD that happen on our streets.
  11. Happy Birthday HAP from all of us at Yorktown FD

  19. Ladder 68 will remain in service. Just a note. Any apparatus manufacture will build what every you are looking for as long as you want to pay for it. The down side of mid-mount ladder is the large over hang. Ladder 68 is about 3feet longer then Ladder 51 and that's on a Low Pro. Mid- mounts ladder in todays standards (100ft 500lb tip-load) will have a much longer wheel base. and a much longer over hang. The key to specing out any apparatus is knowing your area (building, streets, and codes-ie setbacks). In Yorktown a 75ft ladder rear or mid-mount would be a waste of money. You have to know what will work for the area you protect. Bigger isn't always better.
  20. Ladder 51 will be housed at Station 1. 124 inches is the overall height.
  21. 100ft Seagrave ( the leader in Ladders) 500 lb tip load flowing 1000gpm 300gal tank 1000ft hose bed 1500gpm Hale Qmax NFPA + in ground ladders 13/4 crosslay & 21/2 crosslay both can hold 300ft (we run 250ft) 10kw Harrison It is also outfited with all the tool of a truck co. No Hurst Tool (that's R-16 and Sq 270 Job) To answer the question when the wetdown will be. Well it has to be a lot warmer then it is today. (spring ) You never know it may make Somers parade. We will see.
  22. Well I am glad every one like the new Ladder 51. There was a lot of thought put in to the specs by good group of guys. It took almost 5 years of hard work and looking at many types of ladders and many manufactures. But when it came down to final choice all the penciles pointed to Seagrave. The fact is when you have a ladder that has lasted 37 years your choice is made a little easier Seth I am glad you had the time to take a ride around town and see first hand how it handles Thank You. 2532
  23. I am sure every one has been asking. Yes it has been built and it is now in Westchester County. It is RED. Just a little note. Seagrave does make the best ladder out there.
  24. Thanks x635 and Happy Birthday to you Jimmy. Oh DNA has proven he is all yours. LOL
