As the husband of a teacher, if people truly want to save on taxes, then go after neither the Board of Education nor the fire or police service: go after politicians.

FDNY Family Weekend is a BIG difference from "Firefighter Appreciation Weekend"......

Unless I'm mistaken the Yonkers budget is still subject to comptroller approval for a few more years. So in June the city of hills will once again be trying to prevent state intervention and maintain their independence from an oversight committee. Yonkers was, is, and will continue to be at risk for state takeover. Why the nitpicking over semantics?

This may be a dumb question, but why on God's Green Earth would anyone want to camoflage or otherwise make it more difficult to find a hydrant that happens to be placed in front of their property? Saying nothing of the fact that most likely, the hydrant was there before the homeowner purchased the property (so if it was that much of an eyesore, then why purchase the property at all), but in most cases (or at least in my own case), the close physical proximity of the hydrant to the residence is actually an insurance benefit.

If you want a real answer, consult an attorney. Most answers given here will likely be best guesses.

Having a heavy background in chemistry and physics, I don't agree with the fact that a fire that has been extinguished cannot re-kindle. You can put the fire out, but if enough heat persists, and the fuel and oxygen is there, something as simple as a light breeze can "re-kindle" that fire.
From you're thorough explanation, however, I do agree that #3 is a good bet. I've done enough surround-and-drowns to know that sometimes the fire can be too stubborn.

What's the ETA on the statement from the family indicating that the dearly departed was "turning his life around?" Thoughts and prayers are with the officer for a full recovery.

Job well done by this officer, the good guys won. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery both your physical well being and your psycological health.

Look I am not here for a dick mesuring contest. I will leave that upto the people that like to do that. I saw a statement that bothered me and I spoke up about it because its total BS. I dont ever speak up on here. This time however I felt I needed to. This Career Vs Vollie crap is for the birds, were all here to do a job and all you boys can do is talk about whose better than the other. Heres a clue get off your high horse and work together instead of against. I never seen such nonsense from people that are suppose to be helping others. Dont worry I wont speak out again since its seems to get no where with some of you. BTW heres what I had the problem with.
John Flynn said: I think it is very important that we continue to take opportunities when available to educate the public concerning the fact that monies which are donated to volunteer fire departments rarely, if ever, are used for purchase of firefighting equipment, or for training, or such purposes, but rather the monies people donate to volunteer fire departments are used for parties, extravagant dinners, vacations and excursions, etc.

Our engine 119 has a Detriot in it, but our new T 10 has a Cummins.... just from the test drive of the tanker at the plant, I like the Cummins better... But once we have it in house I will be able to comment more... I think in the end, it will be like some like Fords, some like Chevy.
