  1. From my understanding, and I might have the chronology wrong, it went to a place to get repaired, that did not have the capabilities or qualified staff to repair it. They actually did more damage to the truck. It sat outside for 2 years while a decision was made about what to do with it. It then finally went to Seagrave to get repaired and refurbished, and the Commissioners did want to pay for it. Eventually, Seagrave put it up for sale, and another department picked up a fully refurbished Aerialscope for $600,000. Pleasantville, meanwhile, was without a ladder for a couple of years, until the current KME Tower was purchased for close to a million. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

  3. Boston FD is a busy job and notoriously rough on their equipment. I wonder how much wear and tear and maintenance factored in?
  4. I'm basing this on a volunteer department with a Chief and two Assistant Chiefs, all with department issued command vehicles. When all Chiefs are away, planned (vacation, business, work, other travel, etc) and are out of the district and unable to respond for an extended period, does the Command Vehicle get loaned to the next in line officer, such as a Captain for use while they are Acting Chief? Our department, if the Chiefs are all away, all the Command Vehicles sit in their driveways at home or at the firehouse. I'm trying to change that so our line officers have the Command Vehicle when they need to step up to that level. Does any department have this protocol?
  5. Is this really an issue? Couldn't the city have looked the other way on this? There's a lot more to this story beyond this quote, so read on: http://gothamist.com/2016/01/15/midtown_fire_fighter_accepted_52_fr.php
  6. Here's what I heard on the radio: 60 Control repeatedly asking 73-B-2, Sleepy Hollow Ambulance their status, 73-B-2 repeatedly advising awaiting an EMT, an obviously and rightfully frustrated 60 Control dispatcher advising them they are at the 30 minute mark, 73-B-2 still not responding or requesting mutual aid. 5 minutes later, 73-B-2 advised 60 Control per Sleepy Hollow PD, they (Sleepy Hollow PD) are going to be requesting mutual aid, they are going back into quarters. 27 minutes later, Irvington 64-B-2 is on scene. So about an hour for an ambulance to arrive. What happened there? Maybe I missed the call type. Probably just simply a poorly trained or ignorant member? Why did 73-B-2 wait so long that the PD had to directly request mutual aid? Does a 60 Control dispatcher have authority to override a unit? I would guess no because this dispatcher obviously given his tone would have done so. Sleepy Hollow PD got to override them directly thankfully. 35 minutes 73-B-2 waited for an EMT before they were told to stand down. #mountpleasantemsproblems

  8. I would agree with the notion that a 10 pound maul to the bottom of the door a few times should do the trick to break it or force the door to bend around it. But how do you know that type of lock is there?
  9. See more at: http://www.newrochelletalk.com/content/new-rochelle-makes-unexpected-midnight-switch-emergency-transportation-services#sthash.4wHWYrGF.dpuf Does the White Plains ambulance and Mount Pleasant flycar, which are both Transcare contracts, have the same clause as New Rochelle?
  10. Answer? Consolidation. Mount Pleasant EMS (Hawthorne, Valhalla, Sleepy Hollow, and Pleasantville)
  11. Heard Sleepy Hollow's Tower Ladder 38 is out of service "long term", and that it's been shipped to Pennsylvania for evaluation? It's getting time to replace that truck also. Anybody have the facts?
  12. I thought more people would be thankful, guess not. Thank you! See took two seconds.
  13. I'd love to see where the money went and to who. $1 million is far more then poor accounting. I heard they had a funky way for funding their apparatus.
  14. To be fair, the Chief does appear to be busy smoking a cigarette at the 1:15 minute mark

  17. Good point about ground ladder. But I wonder what the truckie culture is in China?
  18. Shake it off and walk away. How did this happen when there were so many people there to break it up. Something doesn't make sense here.
  19. Horrible this had to happen, horrible it had to happen now. RIP.
