  1. From the start it was stated that the METU was not to be used for any purpose other than evacuating a nursing home or hospital. So your statement can't be correct since that is the original intent. You seem very upset about this situation and "wasted tax dollars" but your location is listed as Rhode Island so what difference to you does it make if Westchester County's METU went? There appears to be no actual plan for the unit (that I am aware of). I know if needed the members of the Technical Rescue Team are supposed to drive it and the facilities personnel would ride to handle medical care on board (Nurses, doctors etc.) I was hoping the other night would be a situation for the Commissioner to special call this resource, especially since the Tech Rescue team had members in/responding to the building for other special equipment.
  2. Somers: Fire- 519 EMS- 1,583 Total- 2,102ish MVA's are counted as EMS runs. City of Danbury Fire Department (CT): 10,659
  3. Chief, just curious as to the choice of the AFFF? I'm no foam expert but isn't AR-AFFF a more all around "general purpose" agent and wouldn't it give you the all around best bang for your buck for different scenarios or situations. I am not sure what is in the DES trailer but I know Danbury and the State of CT use AR-AFFF in their trailers. It looks like the Yonkers foam unit is a former engine. Does it have an on board direct foam induction system? Or are you using foam eductors in the 5 gallon buckets? Thanks!
  4. What foam does the Yonkers "foam unit" operate with?
  5. White Plains FD recently turned the county owned foam units back over to DES. The haz-mat team will be in charge of them. Yesterday it responded with the haz-mat team to the fire in Thornwood. The foam trailer will probably need a little TLC and additional training now that DES has it back. Not in Westchester county but the City of Danbury Fire Department operates a State of CT owned foam trailer. It is a 500 gallon trailer with a master stream, multiple hand lines, on board transfer pump, and many connections. The trailer carries 1/3% Universal Gold and is available for mutual aid. It is assigned to Engine 26 which is the firehouse across from the Danbury Fair Mall. It is staffed 24/7 and is always ready to respond. It was thought of being called during yesterday's fire in Thornwood.
  6. Yes heard they will be for a few days... Yonkers dispatch is down
  7. Costs extra....
  8. So have any departments made their own course yet for practice? We are looking at doing it and looking for unique ideas
  9. Once Engine 180 returns hopefully in 4 months, Engine 181 it's twin will be sent out for the same refurb.
  10. Are you referring to the "agility test" that is required to get into the class? If so I think it is a great idea.
  11. What does MRT stand for?
  12. Somers FD has indeed disbanded its dive team. We have two excellent dive teams bordering us in Yorktown and Mahopac Falls. Currently all of our dive equipment is for sale including the vehicle Rescue 38. We are looking in the future to replace our marine 22 which is a zodiac with something new to fit our needs since we do have a lot of water. We will be maintaining our ice rescue equipment and concentrate on surface rescue. If any departments are interested in equipment we have a lot for sale.
  13. Anyone out there use one of the commercially available barcode scanner systems? We currently use the traditional way of paper and pencil but it has become enormously time consuming and not that accurate. Just looking at what other options are out there and if anyone had any advice at what to look at. Thanks!
  14. Through the available technology and through some research I seem to like this system... http://www.waspbarcode.com/inventory-control
  15. This vehicle is designed to move non-ambulatory patients from a nursing home or hospital. The County Tech Rescue Team will be training and will take over the driving responsibilities of the METU. The facility would have to provide medical personnel and the TRT would provide a driver and an assistant to operate the vehicle (drive it around).
  16. The first question to ask is who is responsible for staffing it and responding with it? Who is in charge of the regular maintenance and who is trained to use it?
  17. WEMS provides the 45 medics which cover Armonk. The 34 Medics are run by Empress and cover the Town of Yorktown
  18. Bnechis summed it up... results can take a long time best advice is to go on with your life and start a good workout schedule, most importantly take more tests.
  19. 3 fire departments, 2 VAC's and a battalion for a bee sting in the parking lot....
  20. Side note: I believe last time I checked that the IAFF's stance on the pulmonary function test is that it should not be used to determine if a worker is healthy for work but just an added result to monitor long term.. OSHA standards do not specify that a spirometer test be done but that it can be used as a tool.... http://www.iaff.org/hs/Resi/pulmonary%20function%20tests.htm
  21. Ok so it doesn't sound like it is worth it... I accumulated as much as I could print when I worked at my old job with unlimited access lol
  22. How much is it?
  23. Somers FD has two paid EMT's that are on the first ambulance out the door.
