  1. I feel you do what you have to do, it is no big secret that when we chose our profession that it was dangerous. I have walked into scenes where I was wondering what the hell am I doing in here. But I did what I had to do. The choice of saving a life out weighs your own life at times. I look back now and say to myself would I do it again? I come to the same answer every time. YES I would.

  2. Well, given some responses on quasi-related posts, it doesn't really matter. If a department says they "need" it, then they "need" it, right? Doesn't matter what unbiased, independant observers say, does it?

That all depends, if the Department is from Westchester, Rockland, Putnum, or Dutchess. It is considered bashing. But if the Department is from outside those counties it is considered need to ask that question.

  3. NBC did not show this most likely becasaue the Olympic Committee didnt honor those Massacred at the 1972 Munich Games, it is the 40th anniversary of this tragic event. The olympic committee stated that it was not appropriate to have a moment of silence at the Olympics for this. So it was held days before the event.

    Always remember

  4. Chief Flynn I think to have an article point out that a firefighter is a Volunteer or Career is senseless, both sides have driving issues just as bad as the other. Just because you want people who have a career department to feel safe, does not mean it does not happen there. I have agreed with you on many issues here, but this one I have to say I disagree.

If you’re trying to say that career firefighters drive safer then volley firefighters...well your wrong if that is the statement. I have seen "career" firefighters blow red lights and stop signs on regular basis in the City, Yonkers, New Roc, and Mount Vern. So maybe if I write an editorial I on this should I use the term Career. So the people in my town feel safer because they are not volunteers I am writing about. While I am at should I mention if it is a female firefighter or male firefighter because there are people who think females are bad drivers, or should I state the firefighter is short or tall because there are people who think because if he or she is short they cant do the job, or should I state if a firefighter is black or white because there are racist people out there.

  5. I really can NOT disagree with you or anybody else on this. My point is that, in my opinion, we all just had clean fun at everybody's expense. Now to explain that, I guess is pretty diffucult to anybody who wasn't apart of it. Actually, I think it was GOOD FOR MORAL. Now try to figure that one out. There were certain subjects that were NEVER discussed. Family was one. Race and religion was another. No one ever had to have "Thick Skin" for that, because it was never an issue or even thought about. There was actually a Great amount of respect for each other, although in the firehouse it would sometimes seem to be almost that of a battle zone. And when we went out the door, those guys that had just acted like little kids in a Day Care, gave a service that was second to none.

I still keep in touch with many of my retired and active brothers, many who now live throughout this country. I certainly recieved my share, of a good Verbal Beating. In fact we all did. Speaking for myself, I'm glad I was a part of it from 1975 to 2004. Of course things started to change near the end. Instead of giving the old Verbal Beating in front of Everybody, I noticed there was more talking behind each others back.

So no longer is "thick skin" an unwritten requirement. Nobody takes a verbal beating at the kitchen table anymore. The verbal beating they take is behind closed doors, where an individual can't even try to defend themselves. At least I had a chance to speak my piece when the time came.

So today, we only speak of what is politically correct at that kitchen table. There is no need to have "Thick Skin". I guess if you happen to get a few strange looks during the day, it was your turn to get that Verbal Beating, "BEHIND CLOSED DOORS".

NFD2004, please do not think i was singling out anyones post. If is sounded that way please forgive me. You are 100000% right most of it happens behind closed doors now and is does not matter if its personal or professional. That is where most of the verbal beatings come from now.

  6. File this along side of the case regarding that idiot in Staten Island who got bashed in the face with the chair, then tried to sue the department for 3/4 disability pay. The party involved in this case was employed by the department for 26 years, so I'm sure that he was the recipient (and most likely, the sender, too) of some good, old fashioned ball breaking way during his career. Using that timeline, he came on the job in approximately 1985 or 1986 (with the abuse occurring probably sometime around the late 1960s and/or the 1970s), so he waits till he's a 20+ year vet before he throws a flag regarding nothing more than words? Yes, it's morally reprehensible to joke about something as egregious and as widespread as being victimized by someone in a position of trust, but there has got to be more to this story than what meets the eye. How many times did he ever say anything in his career that is akin to putting the proverbial foot in his mouth? Surely, he has done it - he is human, after all - but if he's done it in his capacity as a fire fighter, then his case lacks credibility.

FFlieu I fully understand what your saying, but the fact is he sued and won. Does not matter if was done years ago or if he delt out some chop busting himself. Now days people sue for everything, and the tax payers are tired of footing the bill. They have very little respect for us and things like this does not help when we open our mouths and cost them money. I am not saying dont bust chops but its really to the point of think before you speak, it comes out cheaper.

  7. I do not know how much longer you can say "you have to have tough skin" when it starts to cost your municipality a half million dollars per person not "having tough skin". To say well the municipalities insurance pays for it, don't you think the municipalities' insurance rates go up and over time you pay the insurance company back instead of a lump sum number to the victim. We all want the public to respect us, but look at some of the comments from the taxpayers at the bottom of the article. Sounds like we are our own demise. I just think it is easier and cheaper to just use your brain and think before you open your mouth.

Look at it this way, what would you do if someone busted your wifes chops at work for being assulted by her father or brother, yes you would beat there a**, but also you would sue big time, or would you tell her "you have to have thick skin"?

  8. This is most likely the most important movie of the year. Bully project is a Documentry by the Weinstein Company, that talks about children being bullied they followed some children being bullied and also spoke to families whos children committeed suicide due to bullying. This is one of those movies that all kids should watch and adults. Here is the trailer check it out. The movie also recived and R rating, htere is a petion out to lower the rating to PG-13

  9. History has proven that communication does nothing but buy such regimes more time to complete their overall agendas or move the majority of it to other facilities that intelligence agencies then have to go searching for which gives more time to further the agenda. It also has shown...for example North Korea that it cannot be trusted and just causes more issues when the UN gets involved for the inspection process.

I'm not sure what gives you the idea of "covert ops" but historically this is not the type of situation that they are generally used for. If you are going to "sabotage" the facility...there is no greater sabotage then that of 2000 lbs bombs destroying the place...and you will get most people inside. The U.S. is not generally in the business of killing civilians but collateral damage is inevitable. It would be time consuming and a logistical nightmare to attempt to "assasinate" scientists involved in the process as most would be then guarded or go into hiding to protect themselves. Not to mention a PR storm as they are civilians and its not like they exactly have a choice or not for what they're doing. The final point of allies doing covert ops...for one it was proven with the operation Last Chance that spec ops teams work better in their numbers they train at. Adding to them or adding multiple teams creates more logistical issues in regard to communication, coordination etc. So if Israel decides to take action..like they did in Iraq...that's on them..after all they are the ally we trust the least. They are under a direct and clear threat at a higher scale then we are. So I wouldn't call any action they take as encouraged...but independent. We should stay out of their business just like they have ours with both Iraq incidents.

Otherwise...if Israel doesn't...either use your stealth aircraft to their fullest abilities...or if they fit the operational spectrum...rain Tomahawks on that facility like the grand finale of the Macy's 4th of July fireworks show. Take no chances...pre emption always costs less then reaction....hence...WW 1, WW 2 and Korea

As far as "covert ops" it was just what I thought I knew just from some basic knowledege and my opinion, but knowing your knowleged from being in the Marines I get what you are saying and understand it better now. As far as communacation goes Talk, talk until your blue in the face then talk some more, that does not mean we also dont prepare to strike. Never hurts to keep that line open never could tell it may save thousands of lives. Keep talking until you drop that first bomb.

I do agree with you on Israel being at a higher scale of threat then us, since most likely will be the frist to taste a nucler missile from Iran, that is also why I feel they will do a prememptive strike first before we do, which most likely lead us into a full out war again because now Israel will be at war with all of the middle east, and this country will not let Israel fight alone this time. Will this happen? I do not know. But if Isreal stikes them first there are many countries there that want a piece of them and it gives them reason to attack with Iran.

If we stike first what do you think will happen? Does that lead us into war? Does Iran attack Isreal becasue the are an allie to us? From public prospective can next or this President afford possibly another unpopular war? Can this country economically afford another war? Will it just end with the US or Isreal doing a premtive strike? These answers are determined by people way above my pay grade where mu opinion most likely does not matter. but these are the questions facing this and the next Adminastration coming in.

  10. Cogs

Some very important questions you bring up. IMO I think Israel will do a premptive strike before we do, I do think we should back them. I also think we should sit down and talk with Iran. I am a frim believer that you keep all channels of communaction open at all times to prevent a war. I do not think another 9/11 type attack will happen in the near future, I see more of smaller attacks happening such as the plot that was spoiled yesterday on the Captial, the Times Sq incident etc.but nothing on the scale of 9/11 anytime soon.

Now the big question. Is it a threat to us here at home? At this very moment no, what it can lead to down the line where the serious threat comes in.

IMO if we do any thing it will be Covert Ops with assasinations of scientist and sabotage of facilities. If we do bombing strikes I think that will be a result of Covert Ops failing. I dont think we should encourge our allies to do Covert Ops on our behalf but I do think they should be encourged to help us in them.

    Very interesting topic .

  11. I'm just curious. Is there a sector of American business that hasn't/doesn't receive "stimulus packages" in the form(s) of subsidies, tax breaks, incentives, low/no interest loans and/or other "bail-outs" from the government?

Yes there is Chris, its called the American Middle Class, kind of hard to get any of the mentioned when we are the ones paying for it.

  13. Sometimes with all our training we do forget the human side of our jobs. Just showing up to that I am not feeling well call, and telling the person they are going to be ok or to the medical call where someone is taking thier last breaths and holding there hand as they pass or that trauma call where that person is all alone in that car pinned and your there comforting them talking to them and being with them letting them know you are thier for them or doing what officer Peck did. This is when we are the real heros, This is where and when we make a real change in peoples lives. This is what those people will remember of us for the rest of thier lives.

    GREAT JOB OFFICER PECK

  14. It's a reptile not an animal. Does it have a nervous system capable of "suffering"?

Sorry, but a venomous snake is not your average nuisance pest in/around the home. It is readily capable of causing death or injury so despite what the statistics show I don't think you should leave it roaming around your house or yard.

I get it now, so leaving it stuck to a rat trap for a few days is really a good idea, my opinion is and we all have one, should of killed it once you caught it. What happens if it got away.

  15. OH NOOO LOOK OVER THERE...... its a group of firefighters wearing blue tee shirts , they must love cancer since they are not wearing pink.... but they look so professional wearing there uniform as per regulations. Look if the Chief says no he says no. Sell tee shirts insteed. If a group of firefighters went to the Chief and said can we climb a ladder and act like a bunch of monkeys to support save the monkey month and he said no.... do you think this would of made the news? This just is not a big deal.
