port chester rescue 40 1994 pierce heavy rescue, engine 59 1995 pierce engine, engine 60 1990 pierce engine. our tower ladder and two more engine will be 15 years in a few months. all of these rigs are front line. theres been talk about replacement but money is always the concern so Im not gonna get exicted

port chesters ladder went out in 2007-8. I had the pleasure of driving it for years and loved that rig and yes it saw more than its share of fires over the years

At a loss for words right now and cant explain how i feel. today i lost a brother fireman, a best friend,and bascially a brother my whole life. all the good times and bad, all the fires and extrications we did, and now i lost my partner. went to an extrication this morning and looked for you and needed the help. i know your with me and you will always be in my heart. ill keep our traditions alive for both of us. i love you charlie

This doesn't have to be a paid vs volly topic. No doubt a career dept can staff and equip a rescue company that is trained to the gills. They have the time during there shifts for all the training. I'm in port chester in the rescue company and yes we are a volunteer heavy rescue. All of our members are at min FF1, more than half our FF2, several state instructors, haz-mat trained, and every member has AVET. more than half the membership is FAST certified also we push as much training as we can but as you all know in the volunteer world its hard to get some guys to commit. Our biggest problem in our company is lack of equitment. being the only rescue, our tool and equit lists are sometimes not taken well. It's much more simple for them to buy hose and ground ladders and axes etc but when it comes to struts and bags and wet suits, hurst tools, hand tools, FAST tools etc theres a price tag that goes with them and the price vs need starts to come out.

the gmc was eng 58 and when it got tired it went up the hill and became eng 59 and covered the slower half of the village,and a grumman firecat replaced it as 58,which was just recently replaced by the pierce puc thats now in service.

funny was just reading on there site and it says that in 92 When first put into service, Rescue 44 was one of the first rescue trucks in Westchester County to have a mounted set of hydraulic extrication tools powered off of an onboard generator. i know for us in port chester's rescue weve have mounted tools on our heavy rescue for over 40 yrs. i believe alot of depts have had that for a long time. and i agree there are too many so called heavy rescue's in that area. not trying to bash at all just stating the facts just like the sound shore has more tower ladders than needed.depts should really look at whats needed and whats not. the tax payers already hate us. duplication of equitment only makes us look worse

found on ebay 1949 American La France fire engine 700 Series pumper, Body is in ok shape. It has been sitting outside for the past 20 years, It has the large E series V-12 engine, 1000gpm pump and i think a 250 gallon water tank. It does roll on its own, It does need a restoration and the engine needs to be rebuilt. It originally came from White Plains, NY and was in service until the late 1970's. It was then bought and moved to Colorado where it "worked" on a ranch until the late 1980's when it was parked for some reason. I bought it in March of this year with the hopes of fixing it up but due to time and money constraints I am unable to continue this project. well if u understood what i was saying then u would realize i mean the same as you, theres to many parade wagons out there that cost the towns way too much money, when u have guys that run there trucks everyday and dont have budgets to chrome them out but have guys who work hard to keep an old dog looking good, it seems that these days if u dont have chrome on every inch of the rig u dont even get looked at anymore,parades are way out of hand now they should do away with the trophy's, beer and the food, seems to me alot of guys only show up for that anyway, shouldnt be drinking beer in your uniform while in front of the public anyway

every year this gets under my skin, parades are meant to be fun while showing your trucks and men, trophies are great but whos to say who should win, i have nothing to hide so ill put it out here, im a member of the rescue company in port chester but year after year engines who have a combi tool win best rescue, i thought they were engines? and how do you judge fairly when my rescue responds to more calls in a yr than some rescue's or so called engine rescue's do in 3 or 4 yrs, are truck isnt as clean cause it works harder but were looked down at for that.

well im glad we had this chat then i had no idea white plains has low and high pressure bags now ill have to update my mutial aid list for rescue,now i know that sound beach in greenwch and wp has them great to know thanks guys

just to touch on it since it was talked about, we used vincents tow truck to pull the car out by the medics request, sure we could have taken alot more time and not having low pressure bags avail we might have not got him out and wasted alot of time,but the medics said do whatever u gotta do to get the car off of him as he was starting to fade away,we used the resources that were there and lifted the truck and pulled the vehicle about 3 feet from the bottom of the truck so the medics could work him, the guy is still alive and the steps were taken to insure no one was hurt or in jepordy of being hurt and the job got done
