  6. Hold on here, the point being with the ladder is for one purpose and one only, for us to get down in case of failure of the system, those that even suggest this using a rope is out of their minds. This is a safety issue thats why that ladder should be there. You wont find any FDNY rigs without them, why? cause they have a real purpose, to be used as a escape ladder. Not blaming the city for all the problems with this rig, but how on earth they put it in service without that ladder is again a lack of concern for OUR safety. The debate on a snorkel doesnt have one is mute, this rig and ALL towers have them period. That LI doesnt, shame on them. With all the hydrallic problems this thing has, doesnt that ladder seem real important then ever. I have been assigned to this rig and was NEVER at ease with it. Jim Loftus Ladder 2
  7. Jody am I gonna have to call you sir now, Best of Luck, that I think about it its not luck you need, just a fair chance.
  8. Man you guys are deep, if anything is true about this issue is the passion it causes, only we understand what this post means, we all wnat ot do our jobs, go home. I hope this discussion causes those that can make a difference, do something. All have put info out that we can use to make our jobs and safely serve the people we serve. Thats what this topic is all about. PS The PD is not an issue here.
  9. I have attended two of these meetings as VP of local 107, my take from those meetings, most of the legwork was put on the unions, including money for the survey, and at the end of the day I cant see some people letting go of what they think is their turf. When I talk of the County, they know whats at stake here and have a resopnsiblilty to fine a way to make this work, bottom line is, we have been very lucky with LODD and the right numbers going in makes all the difference.
  10. Yonkers has been the ONLY department that has been consitent on this issue and I would love to see those guys in our city, but the standards they set awhile ago were the right thing to do. Send them the same as they send, pretty simple. What they were saying is there is a real reason for these standards, safety for US, when we mention this on my job the bosses cringe, why because they know inside this is the right thing but saying so would be to fight a system that tells you to keep it low key and everything is OK, our old Commish tried to debate Tony on this issue back when and got hammered, the foot doctor then went out of his way to make sure all in the city was anti-Yonkers, let see "we couldnt have used a good resource close by" New Rochelle is our 3rd due truck as part of our assingment, now I do understand these guys have to do what there told ,and understand its our job. MA is what it is until someone steps up and says enough is enough, every department has a different problem here, the bottom line, lower westchester should be one department, but as we know, No chief is going to let go of his power, and the County is using blinders on this issue.
  11. Staffing, the number one issue for every department, we show up with maybe 18 on first assingment, 2-mpo's outside 1-aide 2-3 fast when its used 2-drivers , trucks 7-total outside maybe 1-2 more leaves= 11 inside of which 4-are officers leaves 7 firefighters to do what we do. Interior Ops; search and rescue venting finding seat of fire checking for extension suppression overhaul Dont care what math you use this math doesnt work, as for the Pelham crews, god bless them, maybe 2 inside at first. good luck
  12. Albany is gonna be a fun place for awhile, Gov Spitzer is gone for being a client of a NY prostituion ring. Opps
  13. The real shame is and I dont want to offend any one , but democrats have a arrogance that always causes them trouble in the end. He is just a reflection of what that party is.
  14. Maybe somebody could answer this? where the H(ll is our other 2 trucks, back then we ran 3-trucks, L-3 first due in front??, 73- in front, New Rochelle in rear, I cant understand where snorkel 1 or ladder 2 ( tiller )is. at least one of them should have been in front. Ladder3 came out of fulton and would have been the 2nd in truck, God im old and confussed.
  15. I'm pretty sure this is not the fire bombing I worked OT on this and it started in the 2nd. from left building, DC Jack Mazz had this, the firebombing was in 1990, ice all over and only 1 building fully destroyed. Of course I could be wrong on the block , I always thought this job started on 8th. Ave. dont remember to well , getting old. Ya I looked again at the pics and its not the firebombing, its the job Im talking about but on 7th.
  16. I went to this job, we sent snorkel, rescue and deputy, we got there early on and that thing spread across very fast. Tough night for Newro, but like always they did a great job.
  17. We went through this years ago with County PD, and for awhile we were not called to certain parkways, now when we respond we use at least one lane or more if we have to, our biggest danger is just getting out of the rig in any street or parkway, people just dont care. A couple of months ago a member from the rescue was slightly hit by a car, now someone please define slighty hit??? If the PD has a problem dont call us, then explain how they wouldnt need our resources, there's no excuse for not protecting our members, NONE. Jloftus Ladder2
  18. Any of you birds wanna sit in our Qts , go right ahead, just leave our trailers alone. Maybe the county should budget EMS the way the city does. Never mind they stole that budget. Gotta love FDNY, My thought would be the County alocating EMS services to commuities and making them a part of the FD. What do I know.
  19. Man, everybody is getting promoted around here. What this shows is how this site has become more then a web site, its a VERY important information exchange center, if you need to get something out, this place is better then any other way of communicating. And all should be proud of how for the most part this Voly-Paid deal doesnt come up much and bring this site down. I now for a fact ( MT. Vernon Law Dept.) that other outside source's pay attention at what goes on here, and that is how I know this site has a positive impact on what we do. Good Luck to all Jim Loftus Ladder 2 FDMV
  20. This is a great idea, will work injuries and such topics also be included??
  21. Well were going to give this a try ( god help me ), for local 107 members we have a new blog site to discuss what you want. Please use it wisely, I dont want to take it down but as soon as it goes south so does the site. From the members page use the link provided: All others can find it at: http://local107.blogspot.com/ This can be a great tool for many uses, just enjoy. Thanks Jloftus

  23. You know it was a terrible thing in Orleans, but lets start with some facts, The very first person sued should be Naggen the Mayor of the city, ALL local and State goverment for at least 10 years have stolen and misused federal money to get those levee's corrected Yes the Feds didnt respond like we would have liked, our dept. went on for days on, if we get hurt its on you, when guys wanted to go down and help. This, its President Bush's falut is what we deal with today, one's own responsibilty, the politicians of New Orleans are the ones that should go to jail for their stealing and total not caring for the people they serve. Lets see: New Orleans is shaped like a dish bowl and under sea level Is located on the gulf of Mexico Corruption is expected since its New Orleans So for all this time nobody knew those things were going to pop and its the Feds who are the bad guys. There doesnt seem to be ANY responsibilty for a politicaisns actions.
