  1. God bless her and her family.
  2. gotta post again I'm so Someone post about a Mount Vernon firefighter starting out making less then 25,000, we had a guy collect food stamps one time. Or a NYPD officer starting out the same, those are worthy topics
  3. I cant even think why this topic should go anywhere, 1: we all have a right to make a living 2: do we know the circumstances that the OT is availble 3: Manning most likely has a play in this 4: No professional firefighter makes enough for what this job takes. 5: when we get killed tell the family how well off they were. Remember 343 Always
  4. The one thing missing is proper manning, when you can act as a company there's better accountabilty, one's task is more focused , and less free-lansing, a term I dislike as its easy to blame a guy for drifting but any number of dept's force this on you because manning is below safe levels and your task can change quickly becasue of a lack of. CFR for all dept's should be a given, but to really reduce LODD look first at what you start with each day. Happy New Year to all and be safe.
  5. Tough subject, we all want to provide for our famalies, I think as long as your on site and not takiing away from others its okay. Almost like volys vs paid , are they taking jobs we can fill , most of the time I dont think so. Gonna be both sides of the fence on this one, everybody right, everybody wrong. Important point is , is a American doing the job.
  6. Well last week I appealed to you guys on helping us get our Seagrave rearmount fixed. It seems my post pointed to Excelsior as the problem, only in they cant get that truck in as there as he's loaded with work. We understand that, but this Mack Tower is going on a wing and a prayer. Our other rear mount just came back from Nichlos and as soon as it was set up , Bang hydrolic fluid all over the place, so now we cant use that thing , so the new Tower cant go to sta 1 and give the Mack a rest. Meanwhile our seagrave is sitting around , rusting away at sta 3, we know the city is the problem but at this point all we care about is getting ladder 2 fixed. Its not only Mt. Vernon's problem but that Mack is going on MA, to other cities and that should concern others. Might seem like a old song but if you were us you would try anything. Having an I dont care approach is easy, getting things done is not, were tired of being second class as we have some of the best firefighters around ( no offense to others ) and working like this is crazy. Tell someone who cares. Happy Holidays
  7. Wow that was deep This is one of many positive ways to talk about this problem Most of these members give MA to Mt. Vernon very often and these issues do effect them. As to negative effect by going this route, you really need to understand whats going on here. I do. Thanks for responding and stay safe.
  8. Just like all involved that would reqiure talking about this subject and the other issues and not the union or city wish to do that. If all is silent , all is well,
  9. Thanks A union offical should contact the paper,
  10. Ladder 1 Seagrave tower 2006 in service Ladder 2 seagrave 100' rearmount 1998 not in service Ladder 3 E-one 100 rearmount 1989 not in service Ladder 4 Mack Tower 1980 listed as 72 my error in service And yes this is a safety issue and the union stand has been ( none ), it appears until someone gets hurt then all will have something to say: Union : We tried to tell them City : We couldnt afford to fix it Members: I just do what they tell us and so forth, thats what will be said. Ladder 2 lost a turntable seale in Oct. of 2005 at the training center, after fixing the seal a number of other problems were found including the fact it failed the test. Tip crack about 4 feet down stick Chassis bolts broken Hyd line twisted heating system These are the current issues with Ladder2 waiting to get repaired.
  11. Nov. 1991 I think we had about 30 guys 6-Mt. Vernon Seems like yesterday
  12. I find it amazing that the county couldnt just enforce all depts to use one 10-code. now radio traffice will go up and important messages might get stepped on. And all you need is one IC that likes to hear himself, some will drain a battery in no time. 10's were very pratical and knowing how to use them wasnt that hard. I bet we go back to 10's sometime in the future.
  13. I'm reaching out here for help on a issue that needs addressing: If anyone has any juice with Excelsior please read carefully: We have been using on the line a 1972 Mack 75ft. Tower for some 14 months now and our 1998 ( I think ) 100ft. Seagrave has been sitting around collecting dust, since a turntable seal let loose in Oct. of 2005 at the training center. Now lets compare: 1972 Nixon was President Gas Prices - low of 40.4 cents per gallon Bob Newhart Show #1 Number 5 on the hit charts: candyman: Sammy Davis Jr. ( R.I.P) I was 14 years old ( God I'm old ) We need this rig back in service as winter is coming and for our Safety. The people of Mt. Vernon deserve better and no fault by the adminastration this issue needs resolve. I ask if anybody out there doing this job is using a 1972 rig on the line anywhere in N.Y. state. I ask that you guys give Excelsior a call and help us get this needed rig back in service. Thanks Jloftus
  14. Gotta go back to big lew My cold butt matters to me. second: posted I dont know how long ago. year maybe Most important getting this rig fixed. Im driving that wreck of a tower tonite and I dont need someone to tell me its uknsafe. [attachmentid=1668] Happy Holidays !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Before we get to deep here understand I'm putting myself outthere and asking for help . Maybe I should or should not be doing this but I'd like to keep my butt warm this winter. Several factors are in play here and finding fault means nothing getting this rig fixed is the bottom line. I once again thank all
  16. I'll try to be as accurate as possible; Right now we have three issues with the rig Broken Chassis bolts tip of stick about 4 feet down has crack return line of hyd. system is twisted causing heating problems in system. Been replaced a couple of times. We need them to take this rig ASAP And for Seagrave It appears no warranty issue??????? Thanks and Happy Holidays to you and your family
  17. Just curious what would there number be after the 8???? 162 is that right????
  18. Guys your right on target I just love this job and all I have the honor of working with. When I air out a topic its because one day I dont want read how we lost 4 guys. I hope that one day we can figure out how to address these issues. I beleave this forum is a place to start. you have such a powerfull tool here so you must realize why I would use it as such. But I also dont want to be a distraction for other topics. Thanks again for all your good work
  19. Once again New Rochelle is thinking of their future and the safety of their firefighters. I applaud Doc for taking this fine Dept. another step forward, also thank them for their constant MA in the city of Mt. Vernon. I hope at some point they realize that this manpower increase is gonna benefit Mt. Vernon, as our dept. has decided this fed money does not work for us. They would have to increase the city charter number and they just can't do it, as that would be a responsible move. And why should you, we have New Rochelle at our disposal.
  20. Hey hudson Maybe that link is like a Mt. Vernon truck Its there and looks real but it does not work
  21. Rangel is without a doubt the biggest disgrace in Congress. If you listen to him long enough anybody with a clue knows his agenda. Charlie has no respect for the office of the President, one can make a point and still show some respect for another person , chuckles doesnt have a clue. And best of all, he represents the district I work, big ,big disgrace.
  22. Seth Being successful is hard work and I thank you for your efforts, I'm not sure what this is all about but I can tell you the guys from FDMV got your back. We have a real platform to get our message out on and have it read by both Voly's and Pro's, and both have given us positive feedback, so we couldnt have done this without this site. Get healthy, and do what is best for you, but I thank you for providing us with a real site that covers many and important issues. Jloftus
  23. Hey you guys really wanna get scared , go look at what middle east news groups think of our new leadership. That they see our changes as positive makes me really nervous. Back to the good old days. gotta go I gotta finish that bunker in the backyard. PS. Anybody got extra candles? see ya
  24. First I mess up and use those pics then I cant get your name right, Sorry once again Nate................ I'm on a roll gotta go take my meds-see ya
  25. Today I learned I had used some of Ned's pic's for the FDMV tribute video, first I did that video on the fly and wasnt thinking. I have used this great resource here as a tool to get out our message at work and help better our job and having this site is a awsome way of communicating with others that can help. That said : I apoligize to Ned and EMTbravo as well as all members and you can trust I wont make this mistake again. I hope others read this post and understand that this is about the great work these guys do everyday for us and should not be abused, its not about the copyright its about respect. Sincerly, Not to bright jloftus
