From The Journal News legal section 11/01/13 "The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Pleasantville Fire District...invites the submission of sealed bids on a Custom 2000 gpm Pumper...bid opening December 2, 2013..."

Well I'm not sure that this really counts as consolidation, but it's an interesting step.
On a similar note, what percentage or how many FDs are with 60 for dispatch?
According to the WCDES Annual Report 2012 http://emergencyservices.westchestergov.com/images/stories/pdfs/admn/AnnualReport2012.pdf 48 of 58 FD's and 25 of 45 EMS agencies use 60 Control as their primary dispatch.

Questions for the knowledgeable folks: -There are 4 sections of hard suction, what is the smaller diameter one use for? -When the HP pump is in use, does the chauffeur use the side or rear discharge? -What are oval gauge the underneath the circular gauges? Also not another lightbar question but, does anyone know why they went away from the Aerodynic lightbars? Wonder if it was cheaper to buy the same lightbars as NYPD. Thanks.
Not knowing the specifics of the FDNY rigs, but from seeing pictures of how they operate, the hard suction line in the bottom rack (smaller one) looks to be of heavier construction and is most probably used for hydrant operations. The other three look to be of the lighter construction and are used for drafting operations. Being a long time Engine Company member and Officer, this is what I have seen over the the years. The lighter ones typically would not be able to withstand some of the higher pressures from hydrants, whereas drafting operations would create a negative pressure within the hose.

An FYI for anyone who hasn't been up close to an FDNY rig. Look at picture number three ( the Chauffer side pump panel) the compartment to the right of the panel. Check out the carabiner (lock) on the door. The "D" (the round handle) handle does not turn, if this is the same as what I had seen on Rescue 5 when it was at the Long Island Show two years ago (?). You do not have to turn the "D" ring, just pull the door open, interesting concept.

so taxpayers pay for this!??!!? what an outrage!
Not looking to defend or support this, but the 2% funds are a surcharge on fire insurance policies written by foreign (i.e. out of state) insurance companies. No tax money is involved.
An interesting interpretation from the NYS Insurance Department can be found here http://www.dfs.ny.gov/insurance/ogco2007/rg070522.htm .

Looking at this web page http://arffwg.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ARFF-Professional-Designation-Program.pdf, Airport Fire Officer seems to be a new designation for ARFF operations.
"Airport Fire Officer 259x", "AFO 259x", "Fire 259x", "Duty Officer 259x" could be some suggestions.

Confirmed, Elmsford PD is now 151.0625MHz DPL054
-
Did Elmsford DPW make the change along with the fd? (They shared freqs)
Unknown at this time.
The Village of Elmsford has two new FCC licenses:
WQPL677 (FD) 153.8525MHz (PL/DPL unknown) & 159.3975MHz DPL306
http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=3387994&__newWindow=false
WQPP946 (PD) 151.0625MHZ (PL/DPL unknown) & 154.7100MHz (PL/DPL unknown)
http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=3394357&__newWindow=false
The previous licenses for both FD & PD were not narrowbanded, so they are probably not going to be used (FD confirmed not going to be used).
-
New frequency & PL/DPL is 159.3975MHz DPL306.
-
Today I got confirmation from a member of EFD that 159.3975MHz is their new frequency, and that they had to give up 153.9800MHz. Haven't heard anything on the new freq. yet.
-
Just heard a page on Elmsford FD's freq. (153.9800MHz) for all members to drop off their pagers Monday so they can be reprogrammed with the new frequency.
On the FCC's website I see that this frequency "may" be 159.3975MHz http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseFreqSum.jsp?licKey=3387994. Looking at their current license KKG536, http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/licenseFreqSum.jsp?licKey=1209129 it does not appear that they got 153.9800MHz narrowbanded, so they "may" be transitioning over to the new frequency whatever it is.

Duracell donated a huge box of AA batteries to a fire house near me.
Not a single thing in that house ran on AAs.
SCBAs: 9 volt, Smoke Detectors for public: 9 volt
Nice gesture, but totally worthless.
The Scott 4.5's heads up display runs on two AA batteries.

Here are the pictures I took this afternoon.
I heard some comm's on Fireground 3 around this exercise. This Evening as I was returning home it appeared they were using the smokehouse.

According to The Journal News legal section July 19, 2013 "...Village of Tarrytown...authorizes the Board of Trustees to finance the costs of the acquistion of fire-fighting vehicles and apparatus...and authorizes the issuance of $989,400...serial bonds...to finance such purchase."
Anyone have more info on what is being purchased?

Came across this listing, and had to do a double take http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1988-Mack-Fire-Truck-/190872962271?pt=Commercial_Trucks&hash=item2c70ea44df . It sure looks like an EOne Ladder on a Mack chassis. Five days till auction ends.

I've always thought that unless it is a Brush Rig, Booster Reels are not worth the investment. To me repacking a fifty foot length of 1 3/4" is easier than having to simultaneously push the rewind button and guide the hose at the same time. The 1 3/4" can easily be repacked with one FF, where as stated above the Reel is at least a two person job.
The members of the first Apparatus Committee I was on (as Chairman) insisted that the new apparatus had to have at least 200' of Booster Line. When I showed them that with a 3/4" line (which the previous rig had) at 200' (with a calculator similar to this one http://frictionlosscalculator.com/ ) you would get slightly more GPM than a fifty foot Garden Hose. The Committee settled for 150" of 1" Booster Line.

Where did you get this information?
It took me less than two minutes to go to their website http://elmwoodparkfiredept.com/department.html which says they are an all volunteer department.
