  1. The only problem I have with this is that lethal injection is way too nice. Tie him to a bedpost, beat him, then douse him with gasoline - and let Mr. Petit light the match!
  2. I am going. I highly recommend any of Mike Dellassandro's seminars. He is excellent.
  3. I have also witnessed this behavior and think it is absolutely disgusting! That is why all EMS agencies need to do scheduling. This way there is no "picking and choosing" the types of call or the facility that the call is at. Like I say to my members "just think if it was YOUR family member waiting for the ambulance". As far as I am concerned, WHOEVER the agency was, they were paged out and have an obligation to respond.
  4. Generator with lights, cooling chairs, propane heater, misting fans, water, Gatorade, granola bars, cold towels, and CO/pulse detectors. Currently budgeting for a closed tent for the winter months. AND most important - experienced, top-notch, caring personnel!!!
  5. That FD Lt. sure looks thrilled having his BP taken by that EMT!!!!
  6. Bob Rizzo was one of my original EMT instructors 20+ years ago at WCC. Great guy; very knowledgeable.
  7. EMS 11 is Guy Singer. He has been a great support for the Battalion 11 Region - he is always there at our "big ones".
  8. It is definitely a real problem. Had an employee at my job who was infested with them and brought them in to the office. She was told numerous times that she had to do something about it. After (4) exterminations of the office and suspension of the employee, she returned, only to find that her coat and hat were infested with over 100 bed bugs! The employee was finally terminated.
  9. I think I can answer your question. Fire Districts are run by Commissioners who set and approve their own budgets. The Towns that they fall under have no say in the FD's budget - the Fire District merely submits their final budget to the Town and the Town collects the tax dollars from the residents. Therefore, in actuality, the sky is the limit. The FD could easily incorporate a paid person(s) into their budget. If they then bill on top of that, this would be "double-dipping".
  10. Although the title of this thread is "PIAA", the first thread talks about billing for "alarms". That is what I was referencing. Yes, this is allowable in TMP, it is just that not all departments enforce it. As I said, the money goes to the Town, not the FD. The VACs that are billing in TMP are Valhalla and Sleepy Hollow; Hawthorne can't (Fire District)and Pleasantville chooses not to. Hope this clears it up for you.
  11. It is not really "billing" per say. It is more like a summons. The first offense is X amount, then the second and third is X amount, etc. The money does not go to the Fire District, the FD notifies the municipality and they send the "bill" and collect the $$$. At least this is the way it works in the Town of Mount Pleasant.
  12. That was a totally uncalled for statement. There are still many volunteers out there who are extremely dedicated. Unfortunately, due to larger call volumes, those "handfuls" of volunteers who are willing to drop anything and run to a call cannot do it all themselves. Whether you are a volunteer or not, you still have work, family, and personal committments. Yes, a true volunteer does it from the heart and does not expect anything in return. You totally missed the point here and just used it as a chance to criticize volunteers.
  13. Fire Districts in the State of New York cannot bill. There is currently a bill in to the State Legislators to change that.
  14. Need to add/correct a couple of things. PVAC Rehab also has a generator with lights and we have a CO detector not CO2. Call us anytime!
  15. EXCELLENT!!! Couldn't agree with you more! Unfortunately, some FDs are still anti-EMS and cannot understand the need for EMS at a fire scene.
  16. As the Captain of PVAC, I would like to thank those of you for your kind words. I am extremely proud of our Rehab Crew that day. Hopefully, the word will get out there around the County about our personnel and equipment. Glad we were able to make a difference in those extreme conditions, and that no one was seriously injured. I was also told by my members about the excellent job that BMFD did!
  17. Very well said!!! I couldn't agree with you more! As a Chief Officer, I always make sure sufficient personnel is available, whether it be for a parade, dinner, etc. It disgusts me how someone starts a thread, and it always turns into a paid vs. volunteer, or "somebody is going to be sued" issue. By the way Montrose, staying on the topic at hand, - congratulations on the trophy - you guys always look great!
  18. Totally agree with everything ny10570 said - Bob Gokey is truly one on the greatest guys I ever met. I KNOW there will be a great turnout tomorrow night because it will be a testament to how everyone feels about him.
  19. This bill is very important for someone like myself who is a SALARIED, NON-UNION employee. I do not get overtime when I work late, but yet, if I am late in the morning because I was on a call, I have to "make up my time". Has it ever had an "economic impact"? Absolutely not! Not to mention, where I work is in the Town where I volunteer and they own over 100 acres of tax-free property. I have never abused my volunteer situation at my job; I have even used my sick and vacation time to go on calls. Therefore I hope this bill passes. As far as Town workers, I believe they are allowed to leave for emergencies, as long as they do not take advatage of it.
  20. First of all, uniforms are not just for "parades". They are worn at inspections, wakes and funerals, fire prevention presentations, etc. There is nothing more impressive when you have lost a loved one to see your department come in as a group in uniform. Our Fire District pays for the uniform; the member pays for his own shoes, belt, etc. Anyone who leaves the department turns his uniform in and it goes in to our "stock". New members must check the "stock" first to see if any part of the uniform fits before going to purchase a new full/partial uniform.
  21. In our VAC, we send out "comment cards" to each patient after a call. They work very well, because not only do donations come with them, it is important for the crews to get a "pat on the back", since 99.999% of the cards that come back are very positive.
  22. I believe that when 37M2 is tied up (in Sleepy Hollow, or usually on the Reservation), 37M1 responds to calls on the Reservation or WestHelp. Correct? I have asked for data on this from Transcare, but of course have not received anything as of yet.
