  1. I "liked" this post, Sir, not for the destruction and loss, but for the story....in my opinion, one of the many romances in the fire service is listening to stories told by guys...especially guys who have legitimatly "been there, done that"...and just like the wrought iron and wainscoating, true stories, are "getting gone" in the modern day fire service. Thanks for sharing...I could listen all day.
  2. This morning, my department was dispatched mutual aid to Wassaic, along with Amenia, and some Conneticut departments for smoke in a church on the NY/CT border. A second alarm was transmitted to get adequate manpower and apparatus on scene in case fire showed itself. Smart decision IMO. Anyhow...my son was with me, and he grabbed my iPhone and snapped a few pics...nothing exciting to us, but he was pumped to see "Dad in action!"...now be gentle...he's 10.
  3. Yes. I am not sure, I don't carry a portable radio, so i didnt copy any radio traffic. I know there was smoke. Thank you.
  4. Update, via midhudsonnews.com, including an unfortunate typo at the end... http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/2012/December/30/KingsFire_update-30Dec12.htm
  5. I can see it now - Morning Pride now offering PBI babushkas...LOL
  6. Where ma' hose at!?
  7. And again - I reiterate - DONT BE AFRAID TO TAKE "CRAP" OUT OF THE HOUSE! "Dumping the tank" on the piles of clothes, couches, matresses, and stuff isnt enough sometimes. Use trash hooks, shovels, and hands to make certain! It will help to avoid such embarassing events such as missing a body, or a rekindle.
  8. http://www.13wham.com/news/local/story/People-Shot-at-Scene-of-Webster-Fire/Aov0V53ztUC4bKegOnofrg.cspx Unreal! As if there isnt enough to worry about at a fire... Prayers for the Brothers. **getting this from random Facebook posts from media sources, but looks like at least 2 MOS shot, medevac'ed out...three house involved...PD ESU evacuating area via armored vehicle.
  9. This specific quote shows there was a need for a more aggressive, and thorogh overhaul / removal of items from the building. Had that been done - perhaps the body would have been located. Very sad, and embarrassing. *quote was from linked article, not from DCJPells post, as quoted. And HOLY CRAP! You finally retired your salad bowl! Welcome to the new millenium!
  10. Those silver, metal things are ladders....
  11. Bro! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would LOVE to own an old CF! That is a very, very clean one to boot.
  12. Awesome pictures! Love the HDR top pic...
  13. Thats why I always had a handheld scanner on in the bus Billy! And you thought it was only to buff fires...
  14. The one FF killed was a full time Cop, a Lieutenant, acting in the capacity of volunteer fireman. There was indeed an off duty policeman who was injured as well. 5 guys shot in an ambush....I am still just awestruck at the whole ordeal. Why do we do this Schitt for free?
  15. Two things about the audio; First and foremost - excellent, PROFESSIONAL job by Dispatcher and Fireman 312...KUDOS. Second, and one of the downfalls fo the information ages - is the fact that we are able to listen to this mere hours after the incident occurred. We get the names, pictures, and audio too fast....I hate to think over times, how many relatives learn of the death of a loved one via the internet.
  16. Apparently one deceased was also a Police Lieutenant in Town. Very, very, very sad. http://www.breakingnews.com/item/ahZzfmJyZWFraW5nbmV3cy13d3ctaHJkcg0LEgRTZWVkGP7O4QsM/2012/12/24/the-names-of-the-firefighters-involved-lt-mike-chiapperini-and-tomas EDIT; The other FF killed was a Monroe County 911 Dispatcher as well.
  17. I would pay twice what we pay now per year for a career firefighter/paramedic staffed department, and triple that to add in a uniformed policeman in each public school in my township. Happily. I asked not to play the vollie card because we preach until we are blue in the face that we are no different than a career fireman,,(not true BTW), then we ask for special perks because we are "volunteer"....sorry - you cant have your cake, and eat it too..
  18. Damn...now THAT is a pretty valid point...
  19. J - can you tell us alittle more about the SOC? Other than Rescue and the Squad - what do they staff daily? Do they have FF's assigned only on day tour - like 9-5 fireman or something?
  20. John - I re-read this whole thread, including my own comments, and I want to clarify - I was not bashing the YFD or it's men..although reading my posts it would seem otherwise. Not my intention. I have always had the greatest respect and ADMIRATION for the YFD, as many know..I have seen some of the ballsiest firefighting, and most compansionate caregiving from your members duiring my tenure at Empress..I would love to one day go back, but as you posted, so many of us move on...But the YFD is nothing but professional. The first responder program has saved countless lives, no doubt, and I hope it does not go away...the residents of Yonkers are blessed to have it. I always enjoyed calls i would do where Roone, or Eddie R., or so many others were on scene, because I LEARNED from them. I have an in-law who is retired from your job, and I love BS'ing with him about the 80's and 90's in Yonkers, even if I cant understand his hispanic accent when we have a few cold ones and he really gets going..LOL Thanks for taking the time and energy to post the information you did - I know there are things you would rather be doing, but it shows your pride in your men, and the JOB. Merry Christmas to you and the entire YFD...stay safe.
  21. Dont play the volunteer card please....NO reason these Chiefs could not take their own POV's shopping...
