  1. If you don't write it down, it didn't happen according to the report. Soo needles to say if it is brought up and you didn't write it down and you were found that it did, you are in big trouble up here. Every little thing has to be documented otherwise your setting your self up for a potential lawsuit. Make sure you write it down and you tell the ER crew as well reguarless if it hurt the paitient's condition or not. Can't be to sure these days with everyone sue crazy.
  2. The AED will only advise if there is a shockable rhythm and not give a printout. If they had a D-Fib unit (totallu different from and AED) then they could get a printout of the rhytm as long as they could read it. Beign AED and D-Fib certified are two different things in CT. All new EMT-B's get AED certified and not D-FIB. So if they did hook up a AED, no medic and got the message to check again, then they should have checked for a pulse and breathing ect. Also too depends if they were talking to med control and they did shock the patient the required times and they were told to stop by the doctor (which they are supposed to do after shocing the patient). If this wasn't done then there is some trouble. I highly doubt that the EMT went up, lokked at the patient ans said he was dead. There had to been a mistake somewhere in the response system (including EMD which all dispatch centers in CT are required by law to do) This is the opposite end of the state from me so I don't hear that much about this incident but I really want to find out what happened here. There has been some stranger cases though. For instance I was working my old c-med job when one town had a patient in cardiac aresst in one of the state parks moutain trails in the area. By the time they got to the patient, he had been down "lifeless" for about 15 minutes. If I remember correctly CPR was performed by a by stander. The Medics gave 6 shocks, nothing, continuing CPR,. The contacted Med Control asked for another set of 3 which was given the ok by the doctor plus more meds, nothing. They received the ok to stop and call the patient after a total of 45 minutes of trying to revie the patient. As the medic was giving his final report to the hospital over the radio, life saving sefforts now stopped for over 5 minute, the patient suddently had a strong pulseand breathing on his own. The got him to the hospital and lived. As far-fetched as this sounds, it happen. Very against the odds but did. Could have this same thing happened here, could have. It should be interesting. I'll tell you though if there was a majorr messup, The state will have a few less EMT / Medics after this. If I hear more I'll keep you posted.
  3. Great set up and easy to use, but I have to agree to add a little more color just to break this up. If you want some ideas let me know.
  4. Is Aviation Co. 3 back in service yet and doe they have a firehouse since they were being / got removed from their old building? Any updates yet? Nothing is on thier web site. It's been awhile, close to 3 to 5 years now it seems.
  5. We can make something here... A cushy new urinal??? Come on guys we cam market this!!!!!
  6. The Red Knights area a firefighter riding club that accepts all firefighters (paid, vol, industial, airport). One of the biggest Chapters up here in CT is Chapter IV in East Haven. Here is their link http://www.redknightsct4.com/pages/1/index.htm check them out. I'm sure they might know a chapter closer to you.
  7. Well that is the closest freq. CPAGE. I think we have an answer. Also Buff, you can go to the FCC's website and do a license search by frequency also. It taks a little time to manipulate but worth the efort trying to find info.
  8. Do they test often and what is the pay like? Just trying to compare where I work know.
  9. Clostest Metz are Spring Valley Hook & Ladder's and Avon, CT that I know of
  10. Well if I guess the don;t want BJ's there, d***'s sporting goods may be on the way out
  11. When we get our new truck in in February, I'll submit it for a look at some CT apparatus.
  12. 154.44 is not a valid transmit / receive frequency. It may be "bleed ovver" you are hearing. Check 154.4000, 154.4150, 154.4300, 154.4375 and 154.445 (this one is closer) and see if the signal is better. Are you sure it isn't CLiffside Park NJ? I'm just guessing and I can get onto the FCC's database search site for a license. I'll keep trying for you.
  13. I used to work for a C-MED (Centalized Medical Emergency Dispatch) up here and it was set up to notify everyone over everything. Including "band-aid" and "drunk tank" runs.It was good an bad, since the hospitals we covered were all in a major population area and deversions happened all the time. The other C-MED regions would only get patched that were not "priority" calls such as minor finger lacks, detox calls, psych calls et. al.
  14. FDNY Only runs 95 and 75 ft. tower ladders and 100 ft. tillers and rearmounts. I think the used to run a ALF / LTI 100 ft tower (L-14?) and a Sutphen 100 ft. tower (L-119) in the 1980 sometime. Unsure though, I've only saw pictures. I know Chicago had a E-One 135' straight stick at one time called the high-ladder.
  15. There is a guy in Manchester CT that refurbs new yorkers and sams. www.signal50.com He does a good job and aqlso gives advise. I meet him at one to the CT State fire conventions over the past few years. Just BUFF FYI - Signal 50 is the CT state fire code for a Fire Department full assignment response. =)
  16. Yah get a new one. I had the same problem with my original T 1225 and it wouldn;t keep a charge. Tried new bateries and everything. I had it sent out through the VAC i belonged too and it didn;t work at all when it came bcak (never using that repir shop again). I ended up getting a newer on and never had a problem since.
  17. Okj Cool JBE thanks for the update. Must have been a misprint in the manual.
  18. I I've checked here too. The web page has not been updated in some time. I tried e-mailing them but go no reply yet.
  19. I had a HT P1225 and it had high an low settings. I beleive they are similar.
  20. As stated in my earlier post, that is what is listed in the FDNY field ops manual from January of 2002 (p. 29). I don't know why, but I'm assumming that it was one of their runs. Maybe it was a misprint, buy those were teh 2boxes for WHBVFD. If anyone has the newer 2005 ops guide, look it up and check.
  21. Sorry I had to leace before but I have the boxes per the FDNY ops manual Aviation = 8613 firehouse 2610 Gildersleve Ave btw Soundview and Underhill Aves Edgewater = 4184 MAIN ST & ADEE DR F/O EVFD Gerritsen Beach = 3668 SEBA AVE & CANTON CT West Hamilton = 2042 163 AVE & 104 ST & 8369 USCG BERTH FT TOTTEN ARMY PIER Queens Broad Channel = 1615 CROSS BAY BLVD & 8 RD BROAD CHANNEL Roxbury = 1465 BEACH 201 ST & ROCKAWAY PT BLVD & 8025 ROXBURY FIRE DEPT VOLS 42 FORT TILDEN Rockaway = 1465 BEACH 201 ST & ROCKAWAY PT BLVD & 8300 ROCKAWAY PT BLVD & BCH 201 ST BREEZY PT Point Breeze = 1465 BEACH 201 ST & ROCKAWAY PT BLVD Oceanic = 3159 SHELLEY AVE & VICTORY BLVD/OVFD Richmond = 2862 RICHMOND RD & ST PATRICKS PL/RVFD I took these from the ops manual and verified the sddresses on Frank Raffa's web site at www.fdnewoyrk.com. He has a new box finder page where it can map the location. He's still woorking on it but the box locater is very accurate.
  22. I know only Richmond Engine Co. 1 and Oceanic Hook & Ladder in Staten Island are the only companies dispatched by FDNY's CO office there and operate on S. I Channel. I think the others either have a FDNY radio or teletype or both and thier own frequencies. They operate their own radios system inthe high band. I had the old operations manual from FDNY circa 2001/2 (Post 9-11) that described very brief about the 10 vol. companies there. Manhattan = 0 Bronx = 2 Aviation Hose Co. 3 in Clason's Point Edgwater VFD in Edgewater Park Staten Island = 2 Richmond Engine Company No. 1 in Richmond Oceanic Hook & Ladder Co. 1 in Travis Brooklyn = 1 Gerritsen Beach Fire Volunteers, Inc. in Gerritsen Beach Queens = 5 West Hamilton Beach VFD in Hamilton Beach Broad Channel VFD in Broad CHannel Roxbury VFD ibn Rockaway Point Breeze VFD in Point Breeze Rockaway Point VFD in Rockaway These are the only 10 chartered vol fire departments in the city. There is also the USCG Auxiliary Fireboat "SunCat" that is stationed on City Island and operates on all the FDNY channels. I think they are still in operations and not cut.
  23. Rustolium is bad. I did it and the paint didn't stay. Rustolium doesn't withstand heat athe temps we are in stuctures with. Your better off looking at the Firestores website and get the paint cairns recomends. It was only $6 when I bought it 5 years ago.
  24. Poorly paid?!?!? you have to be kidding. I get an incentive of a tax break because the aldermenr in my town, no of which at the time initiated it had a releative or were themself a volunteer, implimented it as saying thank you. I tell you it is not much at all. As for a scab, being a UNION brother myself, non-fire related, you have to look at the definition. A "scab" is someone who is non union, hired by an employer to replace a unionized worker. That replacement receives a set hourly pay scale for his / her work for any given period or time (no offense to the people who work in non union shops, you are not a scab.) Now we can go further with comparisons. Not for nothing guys but check out the other AFL-CIO sites such as CWA, you know Verison's union, or AFSME read up. As for IAFF, the only ones you should be woried about id Rural/Metro. Remember them? Hmmmmmmmmm think now. And if you want to talk about negotiations, come ask me, be there, done that, got the shirt. I'll be quite for now.
  25. I drove past it the other day and man it's a sharp looking building. I've never been through Ossining before, nice little town. Question, is it just 41's and the rescue going there or is Steamer also? I was a little supprised when I was driving around too that Steamers was "in the back" Senate's. Now is that all the same building or two separate ones and if Steamer doesn;t go to the new house, would the take over were Senate was? I hate to see a nice building like that being vacated. Just courious
