Angelo, the pic says "Original Engine 62" is that when the Mack was designated Engine 62 under the county numbering system?

The last I knew ambulances world wide are pretty similar looking with flashing lights on them!

Does the electrical outlets on the front bumper interfere with front suction clearance? I can see some trouble ahead if the front suction is charged too quickly and its positioned to the driver side more.

I said the same thing to a couple guys at my vollie house the other night hanging out when it came on the air. Unfortunately this happens more often abroad in these so-called "third world" countries.

I didn't ask what the flow was Barry, I should have and I probably could get an answer quickly. I am actually a member over at the Suffolk rant page so I got the information first hand from the jakes down there. I would assume the pressure is substantial enough to be able to use a soft suction to the hydrant to the pumper instead of hard suction. There are some of these "hydrants" that they are for drafting only and they don not have a pump but that varies from community out there.

Got the answer. These are spring well hydrants. These hydrants have a pump at the bottom of the pipe in the well. The well pump needs a power source so an electrical cord is attached to the pumper as it is hooked up to the hydrant. Since some of the areas in the North Fork don't have a good water supply. Mattituck and Cutchouge have the special built pump and electrical connections for these hydrants. Nice to see the new building going up pretty quick, definitely its going to be a 100+ year structure. For those who done know, HQ is actually Station 2, the "temporary" Station 2 is the Maintenance facility that was built withing the last 10 or so years. I had heard they did some quick renovations so that HQ's apparatus and some offices could be there. The Norwalk guys could tell you better information.

How about running it Red over black and removing all the SPD decals off of it? Seriously, hope everything goes well getting the Mack up and running again!

Duraline is a company that deals with electrical connectors for maritime applications, ect. They are moving to a new location in FLA: http://www.jbn-duraline.com/ I'm wondering if that is a cistern or other drafting hydrant with a pump connected to it. Or it could be a booster hydrant used to pump into and boost pressure in a hydrant system. Have to look that up. very interesting. Can I use your photo to post it up on another site to ask for some information?

Now everyone remember Hostess has two unions, the Teamsters and the bakers Union. The Teamsters saw the writing on the wall and accepted as a union to agree to the contract proposed. The Baker's Union is the ones who said nope. Now there are negotiations going to be or have already started once again between Hostsess and the unions.

The computerized dispatch is also being used in Branford, CT also. This is not going to replace the dispatchers' job; this is just a newer pre-voice alarm that as soon as the call is entered into a CAD, the type of call and the units responding are announced. then the dispatcher gives all the vital information, location, ect. This conforms with the "Class A" type of dispatching. The whole idea of this new is to improve and shorten the dispatch time. This is similar to the voice alarms FDNY uses in their stations (aka "ENGINE", "LADDER", "SPECIAL UNIT"). It is just sent out with tones and the announcement (or per-announcement before the actual dispatch) over the department radio / dispatch channel.

Bimbo brand breads and another company have been named in looking to purchase Hostess' assets.

It's sad to hear SFRD is going through this with their apparatus, especially with R-1. But unfortunately may manufacturers trying to sell the lates and greatest thing since scliced bread without proper oversight of the construction process. Too many manufacturers don't put the quality and pride in building thier apparatus and just want to pump trucks out. I hope everything works out for the guys and girls in Stamford with getting the Mack up and running again and eventually leading to a new piece of apparatus.

Hey, let's face it! We have been lucky for the past few years. The majority of you all don't remember when it snowed on Easter Sunday, and it was the last week of April!!! Granted that was in the late 70's. (*)

Correct there are nine active volunteer units in NYC. Edgewater Park VFD is in the Bronx, Richmond Engine Co. and Oceanic H. & L. Co are in Staten Island, Broad Channel VFD, West Hamilton Beach VFD, Point Breeze VFD, Rockaway Beach VFD and Roxbury VFD are in Queens and Gerritsen Beach VFD is in brooklyn. There are no VFDs in Manhattan.

I may be out of line here but has there been any consideration by the village to donate the old pumper to one of the storm effected departments in NY or NJ?
