Fire chief accused of telling men to damage firefighter’s home

News 12 has obtained audiotape that allegedly captures Port Chester Volunteer Fire Chief Edward Quinn encouraging his men to vandalize the home of a professional firefighter from Harrison. (5:41 PM)

PORT CHESTER - A Port Chester fire chief is accused of telling his men to damage another firefighter's home.

News 12 has obtained audiotape that allegedly captures Port Chester Volunteer Fire Chief Edward Quinn encouraging his men to vandalize the home of a professional firefighter from Harrison.

The audiotape is filled with laughter, profanity and off-color jokes, with comments reportedly made by Port Chester volunteer firefighters last year, when they were watching a rebroadcast of a February 2015 Town Board meeting.

"I hope we go there tonight and you guys better break every [expletive] window in the place," Quinn allegedly says on the tape.

Attorney Richard Corenthal says the fact that Chief Quinn shared the address and encouraged his men to vandalize the Port Chester home of a Harrison firefighter and union head is proof that volunteers should not be running the department.

Port Chester fired all of its eight full-time firefighters last month in a cost-cutting move. Corenthal is fighting to get them reinstated.

A March 2015 letter from Village Attorney Anthony Cerreto says he confronted Quinn with the accusations and that Quinn denied them.

The Firefighters Union attorney says Quinn should be fired immediately from his post as Port Chester fire chief.

  2. They are qualifying to drive and operate the rig. It will respond to as a second ladder to all schools and large structures when a list is completed. This info came directly from a Warden of the department. You can say whatever you want, but the vollies are getting active and people will just have to deal with it.

Understand this, and I speak for myself. I have no problem with vollunteers as I was one myself. Lets cut through this crap and get to our manning issue. In Port Chester you have a deep volunteer base. In Rye we don't. Instead of worrying who is going to drive the"spare" ladder around and possibly responding to calls, the real issue is getting to the scene in a timely and safe manner and helping the first due apparatus. Don't thin out our response but having one or more people waste time rolling a ladder when we need them at the scene. I am very surprised with you since you are very familiar with our situation, but you continue to fuel this fire. No pun intended. Enough said

  3. I personally know thre qualified driver of Ladder 26 who is training 3 to 4 other drivers at this time. They go out usually every Sunday. This rig will be staffed by volunteers when enough members get qualified. It is good to see the members of Rye getting more active now that both houses have finished construction and the volunteers have their own rigs again.

You can "staff" it all you want. Its a "spare" rig, not a volunteer rig. Big difference between driving it and operating it also. There should be more effort in expanding the membership then there is "qualifing" people to "drive" a piece of equipment that won't be responding anywhere, anytime soon. My 2 cents

  4. Try harder to recruit and retain.  Throwing money at the problem = Not the answer.

Actually Pred1, Turk182 although somewhat sarcastic is right. You just can't keep purchasing equipment and passing it of as additional coverage when you barely have "qualified"manpower to operate them. I am knocking no one, but money can be spent better elsewhere. Either you acquire a strong volunteer base, or you hire additional personel. The municipality in which we work in does not have a substantial base of dedicated volunteers. In many communities, especially ours ,the ones that volunteer more often than not, can't afford to stay. Sorry for the rant but the old addage of "You can't get blood from a stone" is what really needs to be addressed. Buying (retaining) apparatus is completely mind boggling when you don't have the bodies in the first place. Just my 2 cents. This post is probably in the wrong area, Sorry.

  5.

Dude if your not from Westchester , anybody will tell ya Mount Vernon is the all time abuser of MA. Not our fault but the jackass of a Mayor doesnt mind using other cities rigs. Ask New Rochelle there our 3rd.due truck and what I dont get is these really good firefighters over there dont say Jack.

jloftus, unfortunately I am in westchester and the other day I was at a fire(not gonna say where) but if the mutual aid didn't get there when they did it probably would of been alot worse. Covering lack of manpower with neighboring help sure as s#*!@ isn't the answer. You're right, nobody says anything to change it.

  6. How many departments receive mutual aid as much as they give it? I am asking because some depts. really rely on it and for the most part are unable to reciprocate. This is not because they are lazy or don't want to but because they can't manpower wise. Is this topic ever discussed at your firehouses and what solutions have come of it?

  7. Some members arrived during suppression while it did seem most got there after the k/d. There timing was prefect  they relived the limited rye crews and completed overhaul and stopped any possible extension.

Good job to the 1st arriving crew for quickly knocking down the fire and to Harrison for their manpower.

  8. I was just reading a thread about an accident in Mamaroneck in which there were multiple victims and the FD wasn't toned out right away. Is this just an isolated problem or does it happen often? Just wondering.
