  1. Yes. Both Academys' are run out of of Westchester DES Training Center in Valhalla. Usually both are never in session at the same time and miss each other by a week or two, but this is the first time both will be using the facility at the same time.
  2. Yonkers runs their own academy. It just so happens this time around both the Yonkers Academy and Westchester Academy will be in session at the same time.
  3. Hudson 144, Times does fly!!! Seems like yesterday we were working together. Congrats on making 20!!! My class was a year after you 2-88 (Sept-Nov; depts. in that class were Mt. Vernon (1), New Rochelle (6), White Plains (2), Scarsdale (3), Greenville (1), Pelham Manor (1), & Poughkeepsie (2). I would find myself back up there in 89 (May-July) with the Yonkers Academy (23 of us) and 1 from Newburgh. That's one heck of a lot of probie school in 10-11 months!!! lol. As gss131 stated, Yonkers is putting a class of around about 32; on 9/7. I am involved with this class and it looks like we got a good bunch of new probies coming on in this class, joining our department. We will be up at the Training Center for the same exact time frame as the Career Academy, Sept.-Dec. (I believe this might be the first time this has happened, we usually miss each other by a few weeks or just overlap one another by a week or two). It can be a logistics nightmare but we have met with their instructors (who have been nothing but fantastic) to compare schedules and other things in order to avoid any problems. In talking with them, if I remember correctly, they said they will have, I believe a total of 16-18 probies in their academy, from Mt. Vernon, White Plains, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie and Larchmont, I think I might be missing one or two others. It will certainly be interesting to see how this all works out in the end. It will take some work and more importantly constant communication, but from the looks and feel of how our instructors and their instructors are approaching this; we will get through just fine with little problems if at all. Best of Luck to All; who will be part of both academy's.
  4. Yes, that was the new L74 at the 10-30 on Oliver Avenue on 6/13. With R1 now in service, all new apparatus purchased and received so far this year; are now in service within the city.
  5. The Dept. did the Acceptance Tests on the Rescue, L70, L73 & L74 today. So, if anyone saw a convoy of YFD apparatus and vehicles driving through the streets of Yonkers today, that's why.
  6. Currently out of the 11 Engine Co.s (that's including Squad 11) only 4 companies (307, 309, 312 & SQ11) carry LDH. All other Engine Co.s carry 3 1/2 and will stretch dual lines when grabbing a hydrant. One line is gated and the other is not. As to why not all engine co.s carry LDH, the person that can answer your question accurately, would be Deputy Chief B. Fitzpatrick (member name: billfitz). Hopefully he will see this topic and respond to the last part of your question.
  7. LDH E300 is a Smeal and was the former E307, prior to them receiving their new ALF recently.
  8. Residency Requirements for Yonkers FD are: RESIDENCE: Candidates must be legal residents of Westchester County for at least three (3) months immediately proceeding the date of the written examination and continuously up to and including the date of appointment. PREFERENCE IN APPOINTMENT WILL BE GIVEN TO SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WHO HAVE BEEN LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF YONKERS FOR AT LEAST THREE (3) MONTHS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION AND CONTINUOUSLY UP TO AND INCLUDING THE DATE OF APPOINTMENT. They have gotten strict about enforcing it too. The YPD does the background checks for all candidates. They do indeed check all candidates thoroughly and confirm that the address listed is indeed where they reside.
  9. The new Yonkers FF's list that has been on hold for several years, was just certified Thursday 4/26/2007. I would assume everyone will be receiving their rankings and mark in the very near future. The list as of now, is a two year list due to expire on 4/26/2009. If it does indeed remain only a two year list, I would assume Yonkers would be giving another FF test sometime in 2008 (usually June) with the agility in the Fall of 2008, so the that list would be ready to replace the other one in 4/2009. This is just by opinion from how I have seen FF's exams given in Yonkers in the past. Just keep checking with Yonkers Civil Service to see when they expect or do indeed schedule a new test.
  10. A true gentleman and a great firefighter. He left us way too early. You will be missed...... May You Rest In Peace, Kevin.
  11. Mickey's Hot Dog Stand is located in Greenburgh just over the Yonkers/Greenburgh line on Jackson Avenue. If you are coming S/B on the Sprain, getting off the Jackson Avenue exit, you would make a right at the traffic light and it will be right there on your left hand side, just passed the powerlines.
  12. Yonkers FD Station 12 is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2005. Station 12 opened on June 17, 1930; with the commissioning of Engine 12. There will be a ceremony comemorating the 75th Anniversary on Friday, October 14, 2005 at Station 12. We are looking to contact YFD retirees whom were members of Station 12 at one time and who might be interested in attending the ceremony. If any members of EMTBRAVO personally know or know someone who might know a retiree of the YFD and might have been assigned to Station 12 at one time in their career (E312, TL75 or Batt2), please contact me via PM, so I might contact them to inform them of the ceremony. We have posted this on the YFD.org website, in the hopes of locating them too. Thanks
