New Yonkers Rescue

I apologize in advance if they've been asked before, but I have a few questions about the new rig, if anyone knows:

1. Is it a walk-through?

2. Are all of the compartments the same width?

3. Will it have roof compartments?

I know these questions are kind of strange, but I have my reasons.

Just out of curiosity, how can 2 pieces of aparatus in the same county have the same designation ? Larchmont has a Rescue 1 also. Never noticed that. Not that they will ever play together, but if 60 Control ever calls them in for Mutual Aid, the radio traffic might get a bit messy.

I believe the Yonkers Rescue is considered Rescue 11 by the County. But since Yonkers rarely comes into play outside their own City I don't believe it is much of an issue.

I believe Yonkers has responded at minimum to the towns/cities of Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, White Plains, Eastchester, Scarsdale, Bronxville, Tuckahoe, Hartsdale, Greenville, Fairview and as far north as Hawthorne for the tonado last summer.

If you look in the Squad category of the County Apparatus list you will see Squad 1 is assigned to Yonkers FD. The Rescue company, used to be called Squad 1 in Yonkers...check out history pages at http://www.yfd.org/ Not 100% sure but this may be the reason it is designated as Rescue 1 now. Sure Chief Fitz or Batt2 can explain more.

Due to a fiscal crisis, on January 1, 1976, Engine Co. 1, Rescue Co. 1 and Truck Co. 11 were removed from service

On March 10, 1978, the apparatus numbering was changed "to conform with the numbering system of the County". In order to eliminate confusion during mutual aid, all apparatus in Westchester County were given different numbers. Yonkers' Engines received numbers in the 300's and its truck companies (now called ladders) received numbers in the 70's.

On June 18,1992, a Hazardous Materials unit designated as Squad 1 is commissioned. This unit will be staffed 24/7 by an officer and one firefighter. The unit will also be used as a rescue company assisting ladder companies at all working fires. During 1993 all members assigned to the unit received extra training and were certified by New York State to the Hazardous Materials Specialist level. Support companies were designated to assist the Squad when more than two persons were needed to handle the incident

As we entered the new millennium, Squad 1with its two man crew was decommissioned and to replace it, on March 6, 2000, Rescue Company # 1 was commissioned with a four man crew. The City of Yonkers once again had a Heavy-Rescue Company almost 70 years to the day from the commissioning of the original rescue.

Pics don't look like anywhere in the lovely Yonkers...and auth Batt2 and R1SMOKEEATER it is going to Harrisburg for the show tomorrow for display.

As well just learned the R1SmokeEater designed the lettering/striping for the new rig! Great job...looks sharp!
