  1. Per NYS Penal Law, a 16 Y/O is an adult. As for NYS DOH he isn't, but he was not primarily a patient at that point in time, he was a prisoner. As such, as the police chief he was, in effect, this 16 y/o's 'guardian'. If SHPD's policy is not to transport all single shot Tazer prisoners, then so be it, this really isn't a big deal. The media, the perp and his parents are the ones that are making a non-issue an issue.
  2. I hate to say it. but there is no complaint. Accident reports are a civil function and the police officer is under no duty to act to help the family. Not helping someone isn't the same as cursing at them and I'll tell you now, 'a rude police officer' complaints are never substantiated, they just get disregarded.
  3. Long Island has had the rule for years. It doesn't mean that they will send someone, it only means that 911 will keep a log of the call and the times in case it ever comes up as a problem.
  4. I fail to see the problem here, he reported it, it was tested and found to not be marijuana and it is now being investigated by an outside agency. How is he possibly in trouble? Heck, even if it was marijuana, it still only a violation, 100 bucks maximum.
  5. You're missing the quality of life aspect of it. Yes, it is police work, just as taking property damage accident reports and resolving customer/merchant disputes is. All three are a purely 'civil matter' that does not need a police officer in any way, however it is a service that the department performs.
  6. They can also be used to look for evidence like shell casings or footprints before the K9 arrives and.
  7. It has been ruled NOT legal to look into a house with a thermal imaging camera. And yes, there are ESUs around that have TICs.
  8. Why not? Is it inferior? I think you do more of a disservice being out of service then worrying whether or not Cortlandt will be able to operate without their own backboard. Jesus Christ people, get a grip. You probably will NOT be able to get your board and straps right back, so just grab another available one. This is not a situation where there are not enough backboards, this is a situation that you don't want someone else's backboard. Grow up. Have you ever taken a pair or two of gloves from the hospital? Does your squad have it's own sheets, towels and pillowcases? You're making a mountain of a molehill here.
  9. Keep digging yourself into a deeper hole..... For all intents and purposes backboards and straps are community property, to think otherwise in this day and age is just being naive.
  10. I still don't see the issue here. The flyer was obviously intended for OFF duty MOS, not on duty. The fact is that he screwed up by not scheduling OT to cover for the modified cop, but that is not the issue here. The story makes it sound like he purposely closed the department down, he didn't. I'm just trying to figure out this 'part time cop' not feeling comfortable working 'alone'.
  11. The show was only paying for the first year of the mortgage. With his having a child and his wife not having a job, the cost of the mortgage was still too much.
  12. This is more than 6 months old...
  13. In short, no one knows what's really going to happen at Monte/OLM.
  14. It's not so much as it does not belong to you (legally it would have to), but it can be subpoenaed by the police to investigate an accident/incident. In that aspect you have no legal right to deny the investigator the right to inspect it.
  15. IIRC only the K9 Tahoes are 4WD, the rest are 2WD. Why? The top speed of the 4WD Tahoe is only 95, the 2WD are limited higher. That and the 4WD cost significantly more.
  16. It was really nice to stare at the side of a city bus for 3 hours too.
  17. Still a misdemeanor here.
  18. Yes, the Intrepid had a police package at that point, but I think that Dallas was the only major city that had them as police vehicles in any significant numbers.
  19. We only have to complete them for hit and runs, MVAs with injuries and municipality involved accidents, otherwise you get a MV104.
  20. I wonder if the other cops that read the thread laughed at the word 'badge'.
  21. Simple, too many chiefs, not enough indians.
  22. Abandonment is NOT temporarily leaving a stable or potentially unstable patient in ther back of the ambulance to tend to another patient, its permanently leaving them without continuing medical care. Some of you the definition a little too literally.
  23. There are buttons on the control panel that 'jog' the lights 360 degrees and there are also three separate buttons that will send the lights directly to the 'left', 'right' and 'takedown' positions.
  24. It would behoove the FDMV to maybe place a few advertisements or have a press conference describing just how under staffed you guys are. The city definitely has the money to adequately staff the PD and FD, I don't understand why they don't.
