Fully involved car fire - vehicle unoccupied upon PD & FD arrival. Brought quickly under control by NRFD. Photos are out of order, my apologies - I guess I uploaded them backwards.

    Hi Tommy,
This isn't directed at you personally.
What's up with the "go after" mentality? I mean to a certain extent we've all bought into the rhetoric that has come from the political discourse. "Go after" has been ingrained in our collective thoughts as if there has to be some group that bears responsibility for the problems the country has been having.
Within every segment of our society there are people who obviously have taken advantage of others for their own greedy reasons. There is unfortunately corruption, greed, and cheating virtually everywhere. But it's never an entire group. Not even the bankers.
We as a society can begin to solve some of these problems when we can move past the "go after" entire segments of society; because they wear a uniform, or teach, or even work in the political world.
I've known some politicians who have incredible integrity. A fighter pilot during Vietnam (no not John McCain, never met him) who flew 200 sorties during the war. He entered politics to make a difference, to help people. In the same way cops and firemen help people. In the same way teachers help people.
The answer to solving the problems that our society is having is to utilize and respect the solutions that smart people have come up with. For instance the consolidation study of the south Westchester FDs.
No one group out there is the "enemy." I think we should all try to keep that in mind. We all want the problems our country is having to be solved. Let's just be smart about it. It can be done.
    Have a great day.

I had the opportunity to head over to Navy Week Boston this afternoon to check out the ships that were available to be boarded. Very impressive collection of ships. I was only able to get on the USS Gravely, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. The ship was pretty amazing. The crew was great and took the time to show you the ship and talk about their different roles on board. All photos except for the remote gun system and missile launch pad are from the Gravely. The German vessel had a beer garden on the helipad. The ship was closed when I was there so I wasn't sure if it was for visitors or sailors only. Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

Everyone is so quick to blame teachers, but in EVERY STATE. Whether they be right to work or union states, they have the same problems. Charter schools are successful by limiting class size and/or selecting students. NYC's select admission high schools do phenomenally on a national level. These rubber room teachers and pension abuses pale in comparison to the losses as a result of CityTime, PSAC I and II, NYCWIN, and trasit communications. Then there are social initiatives like bicycle lanes, his million trees goal, and street scapes that while nice can wait until better financial environments.
These failures go back to Guliani. When before 9/11 and wall street was booming the pensions had big surpluses. These practices continued through the current administration. The employees don't have the option of withholding our contributions. The city did and now they're crying that they have to make up for their short sighted financial planning.

  6. WHFD318 liked a post in a topic by M' Ave in NYC to Pay 128M for FDNY Discrimination "Damages"
Listen, this is just blustering and good stuff for the papers to print. This is the first OUTLANDISH shot fired in a long war. This will be in court for years to come. There is no way that the city is going to pay out like that, nor are they going to allow this kind of precedent to be set. All that has happened is that one lunatic judge with an agenda has put his personal stamp on this case. It's going to be appealed and then appealed again and you may very well see this case dragged all the way to the Supreme Court of the U.s. for review.
If you're trying to get on the job, try not to worry about this stuff. It doesn't REALLY effect you or the chances you have on this next test. Just shoot for a top notch score and get yourself through the academy and onto this job. After you've done all that you can focus on keeping the integrity of this job for the future. There are plenty of us here who are looking at preserving it for the future, be it with Merit Matters or Pension issues this Tuesday in Albany. If you're a test candidate, take the exam and worry about doing well and staying in shape. You'll have a long career of getting into this job in every facet should you do well on this month's test.

From what I know, and I'm sure the chief can verify once he knows more on here is that we settled with the insurance company and are looking to move foward as fast as possible to replace our rig. We are obviously looking to KME to replace R35 and I have seen some drawings of possible replacements.
Will keep you posted as the info becomes available.

I knew Joey since 2nd grade. There aren't enough words to say how GREAT of a person and friend he was to so many of us. RIP old friend. You will be missed.

It was tough to hear the news about our rig. The good news is that it doesn't seem to be a total loss. Major damage was only in the cab. The pump and body seem to be unharmed. From what I know, I believe the rig is headed back to KME to be fixed. Keep you posted.

I saw this morning on the way to work all the mess. Ladder 14 (Spare/Former L12) was set up on Locust and Clinton and looked like master stream from Eng 22 was hitting the front of the building at 7 this morning.
Tough fire and a lot of hose stretched.

Sorry for the poor quality. Great job by NRFD under tough conditions. Got there as TL11 was venting the roof. Enjoy. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and be safe.

Bobby is a personal friend of mine and former member of the West Harrison Fire Dept. He was a proud and dedicated member before joining the NYPD. Knowing him, he can't wait to get back to work. Thanks for the thoughts and well wishes. Also, my best to those other officers with him, and to all Police officers, I thank you for what you do each day.
