  1. I started the original thread about that organization, in fact it was picked up of EMT bravo, and reposted on an FDNY site, it appears some of those members were maybe going to forward the organization to the Fire Marshalls for investigation. The discussion has alot of merit as people with wind breakers getting beyond firelines and possibly wanting to do harm to responders. Please reopen the thread.

  2. bob,

How about color code on gasoline power equipment. EXAMPLE everything on straight gas gets marked with a band of green electrical tape, everything with mix(gas & oil) yellow tape, the gas can itself also needs the corresponding color code. I have seen guy's try to read 2 exact size gas cans that somone marked with black marker 1 gas oil the other gas, very difficult to make out at night. Just a good 11/2 inch band should do the trick

  3. Brothers, Please take the elevator class taught by Mike. The class is offered through Westchester County (it is Free) to firefighters and Fire officers. You will be amazed at how much you do not know, and how dangerous elevator removals can be. No one has mentioned placing members in class 3 harnesses and on rope or not wearing turnout gear during removal/rescues from stalled cars in the shaft.

How about shutting down power to adjacent cars in multi car banks when doing removals from the top of a car so a firefighter does not get killed by a passing car that is still running.

I was lucky enough to have taken Elevator awareness with Mike and a few day's later encountered a difficult removal, where we had to place firefighters into the shaft on rope with harnesses (for our own safety)

Please realise the importance of proper training in Elevator rescue/removal and sign up and take the class.
