Unfortunately in WestChester, some times PRIDE goeth before the Fall. Many alarms are answered with 3 Engines and a Truck with a rescue , unfortunately most are manned with a driver and little or no crew depending on time of day/night,therfore all the theoretical responses are useless unless the Volunteer rigs wait for a crew to arrive at the station prior to responding.

Barry,I commented on FB that the cuts never hit the political appointees that suck at the public trough and get better $$$ than Fire Fighters and other city workers and never have to worry about getting cut!!!

FDPRO nailed it !!When the politicians and the Man Ymano thing between the 2 boards get settled maybe they ought to form one unified Dept with equal staffing 24/7. What was written earlier about the varios company rolls is true, many members are in the Active Exempt area(measns they have done thier duty but are not physically able to perform as a 1st grade FF. Nuff said!!!

The whole Rye Brook/PortChester situation needs an outside evaluation. The present FD coverage in Rye Brook is shaky at best!as an example when RBFD responds to an alarm PCFD sends a firefighter manned engine and a volunteer engine as 1st due. The problem arises after RBFD goes off duty at 7 pm and a PCFD career firefighter relocates to the Rye Brook station for the night tour and needs backup to come from down town PC. To all of yopu out there hown would you like to respond to a working fire by your self and know backup was a while away???

Many years ago I spoke with a medical resident who was involved FF stress, theymeasured heart rate andB/P on FF's responding to alarms and found #'s that were of the chart. The resident looked at me and said don'tride the back step(it was a long time ago!) as it results inelevated heart rate and B/P--- So Sayeth an old timer!!!

I have been retired some 20 odd years and I can still walk into the HOUSE and get respect from the newbies(even tho they have years on the job) the brother hood is alive but some how it gets lost in the constant battle with life, when we are fighting not only fires but the public perception of OT and benefits that all the brothers in the past fought for and we enjoy today. To all the exam takers remember you are trying to join a very proud and brotherly profession.
