  1. Not all the apparatus is that old. Engine 257 and Engine 258 are 2001 KME's and Ladder 35 is a 2003 Spartan/Smeal. Depending on the type of alarm and location depends on what apparatus is responding, so its not like every rig is rolling all the time to every call. Also, the rigs no longer respond on ems calls since every substation has a SUV first response vehicle for that purpose.
  2. As of this time there is nothing in the works for any new fire apparatus. The oldest apparatus that the dept. has is Engine 255, which is a 1992 Alleghany/Pemfab rescue-pumper. Engine 252 (1990 International/EEI) was retired when it was involved in a rollover accident a few years ago and Engine 250 (1988 KME 55' LTI telesquirt) was retired and sold last year to the Lehman, Pa FD. Although the apparatus line has been downsized, there is currently no appartus on order or being sought to be replaced. The dept. still has 5 rescue-pumpers and 2 ladders in service. For the full list of apparatus, check out www.moheganfire.com
  3. One of my cousins was in one of the episodes in Brookfield, Ct where a child locked himself in the trunk of a car
  4. Mohegan was operating at an inside gas investigation at a strip mall on East Main St. Due to apparatus/manpower tied up on this assignment assisting Con Ed to locate the source, the IC decided to place an engine from Yorktown on standby in their quarters, Peekskill TL45 on standby in their quarters and relocate Peekskill E132 to Mohegan HQ to cover while Mohegan units were working. Ladder 35 was set up to the roof, while members and Con Ed checked all the roof top a/c units, while E253 and E257 stoodby at either ends of the store fronts. Members also checked all the adjoining stores with detectors with no results. The source appeared to be a malfunction with one of the a/c units. The standby's were just because Mohegan did not have any more in service equipment.
  5. Any pics of the parade?

  10. The run assignments have officially been changed in 60 Control cad...i do not know the new amount/type of units assigned to the types of calls yet. Utility 40 has been changed to Rescue 32 due to the type of utility it is compared to the other EMS 1st response utility's in Mohegan (U18, U75, U80). The responses in the past in cad would assign one of the ems utilitys in U40's place when U40 was unavailable/OOS. Not much these ems utility's can do at a fire call, as they are generally ems only equiped Ford Explorers. Therefore these ems utilitys will not be dispatched to fire calls anymore, from what i understand. By showing as Rescue 32, there wont be a mixup in cad of closest available utility now and and an Engine will take the place of the Rescue when it is unavailable. Rescue 32 (ex-U40) has a Swab utility body and carries an host of small equipment. This includes a stokes basket, backboard, set of irons, 6' steel hook, bolt cutters, 2 airpacks, thermal imaging camara, reeves, tool box, windshield cutter, k-tool, 8 traffic cones, boxes of flares, fire line tape, water can, dry chem, CO2 extinguisher, gas detector, hand lights, utility rope, hazmat booms & pads, speedy dry, bottled water in cooler, defib, crash kit, O2 tanks, Thumper mechanical compressions machine, and water rescue throw rope. I also heard that a small extrication tool is on the rig or will be put on very shortly. Ironically, Rescue 32 used to be one of our old ambulance numbers during the Rescue Squad era that ended in the 90's.

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...FOR ALL OF EAST CENTRAL NEW YORK AND ADJACENT WESTERN NEW ENGLAND. A COLD FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH THE REGION THIS EVENING. BEHIND THE FRONT...WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTH- NORTHWEST AND INCREASE TO AROUND 10 TO 15 MPH BY THURSDAY MORNING. DRIER AIR WILL ALSO MOVE IN THE REGION... WITH MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES MAINLY BETWEEN 20 AND 25 PERCENT THURSDAY AFTERNOON. WIND GUSTS OF AT LEAST 20 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP... POSSIBLY BECOMING GREATER THAN 25 MPH. THE COMBINATION OF LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY AND GUSTY WINDS WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR. LISTEN FOR LATER FORECASTS AND POSSIBLE RED FLAG WARNINGS
  17. Any word if they are going to have other shifts in the upcoming week?
  18. Unsure of cause. Flames/glow could be seen for quite a distance (a few miles) by numerous members responding. More photos at http://www.moheganfire.com/
  19. Just to clarify...the entire interior of the building (both 1st and 2nd floors) was fully involved on arrival with heavy fire venting from various locations, although the pictures do not show it. The heavy timber held this old barn up from a collapse. The interior sides of the wood siding were heavily charred by the fire, as was the underside of the roof.
  20. Another one of the old sirens is located on Locust Ave just in from Rt 202 opposite the old Toddville School
  21. Thoughts and Prayers to all those involved. Rest In Peace P.O. Morelli. P.O. Christopher Gravius 52 Precinct NYPD
  22. Speaking of The Quint...does anybody have knowledge/photos of the fire on Riverview back in the early 90's (I believe) where the stick got stuck up in the air from being frozen with water?
  23. Thoughts and prayers to the entire family
