  1. I happened to come across a few videos of the New Chicago FD on Youtube the other night. Based on comments I saw they are a Volunteer Dept. and manpower is reportedly an issue, at least during the day it is. One video of them had an engine showing up on scene to a fully involved structure fire with its siren blaring and no lights on. I'm no MOS or anything so please do correct me if I'm wrong but they seemed to be a little "off" to say the least.

Hey.. At the 5:17 mark on this second video,, Is that the new "packless airmask" on the guy walking around in the middle.. LMAO.. Man,, is that going to be awsome to have no extra weight on our backs..

  2. The questions I have are not a critique, I'm just curious:

    1. Is this a truss constructed prefab, or a type 5?

    2. Is there a basement?

    3. Was the home occupied at the time of the fire?

    4. How many units responded for the initial attack and what was that manpower number?

    5. Was the aerial master-stream used for a knockdown?

    6. Were groundladders deployed, maybe to the rear and out of view, or not needed?

    4. Is the structure one level on all exposures?

Looks like it was a tough one for the first in units. Glad to see there is no info on here about any injuries.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

I will try and answer most questions.. I am sure someone else can fill in the rest..

#1- No truss-- House was probably built in late 40's to 50's... roof had 3/4 tongue and groove and 2x6 rafters, 16 on center,, so guys inside did have a little time trying to stop spread in attic..

#2- Unknown- I never went into house..

    #3- No, homeowners out shopping

#4- 1 ladder- Driver only.. 2 engines(257,258) had driver and probably 4+ on each due to Santa candy cane run that day and engine 255 driver only. But there was also some manpower on scene with there POV's upon my arrival (Ladder- First on scene)

#5- Yes, but after aggresive attack on garage and interior attack.. Fire was blowing out both garage doors upon arrival and was working it's way into attic area..

#6- Yes, one was deployed in front for venting team (moved away when ladder aerial masterstream used) and one was deployed to rear for secondary escape if needed..

#7- Property was level, so yes it was level on all exposures..

  3. kenny I see andy taught you well with taking pictures lol

Funny you should say that because Andy was there and had us set them up... LOL.... We took them after we got off the nighshift.. The pics were last minute or I would have gotten in touch with your father.. But I will hook up with him and Joe for better shots and also for rescue 55..

  4. Simply put in a dispatch would be (and i'll use my dept as an example):

"60-control to Yorktown Fire and Mohegan your FASTeam, 1200 Old Crompond Rd for a possible structure fire"

Well, first of all, you have it backwards.. Yorktown doesnt cover any parts of Old Cromond Rd.,, Its all Mohegans!! Sorry Verg LOL,, You better invest in that GPS dude.. Otherwise they will have to call you Ferguson junior... Remember where Sparkle Rd is...LMAO

But I do have to agree with some of your post.. We really should be looking at things to save time on responses from the mutual aids,, espec. daytime!!!

  5. Monday morning 6/29 the US Supreme Court will announce the decision on the New Haven 20 case. (see New Haven Register) This ruling can and will have a major impact on hiring practices in all trades if they rule in Favor of NH20. In other words does a city or municipality have the right to discard an exam because there is not any minoritys in reach for hiring or promotions.

Carroll vs Mt Vernon update- depositions are now scheduled for july 20,21,22. This is where the truth will hopefully come out. Fire service leaders from FDMV are to be deposed and like I said the truth will come out! Can somebody define "PERJURY" ?

Hey Jody, Good luck!! Here is a link for an articale I found online, about the NH 20 and the judge involved!!

  6. What are the specs?

The truck was a used Snap On truck out of PA. Its a 1990 Chevrolet ( not sure of body). The members of YHFD spent many countless hours gutting the inside and building individual lockers for each member as well as installing extra seats, storage compartments and putting radio's, lights and other electrical items on it. There will be pics of the inside soon. Kudos to the YHFD dive and water rescue team for their hard work and dedication.

  7. Something to ponder on all of this. What happens when the fire district and/or fire company is a non-for profit and does not have to pay property tax and school tax. These entities might come after you now for taxes (school, town, county tax). What will you do then?? Alot of departments own alot of property and most are in commercial zones. Do you know how much they will kill you on these taxes. Might not be worth it!!! Something to think about!!

    Just my 2 cents!!!

  8. Yes it does. But the call your mentioning you basically got involved by your own choice and by mere self determination. Did the agency you were a member of...have an agreement with the dispatched agency to their call? Chances are they didn't and guess what...they still don't. Perhaps if they had an agreement then you wouldn't have had time to finish getting ready for work, get in your car and head out. Perhaps you would have just went right to the call with the understanding you were going to resource share. But as of right now...taking into account where you say you lived and such I'm going to assume the 2 agencies in that area that I have in mind...both have issues with getting out...one significantly...and no agreement. I'll leave it at that for now.

Now take your experience and put yourself in the shoes of the ALS provider...sitting there awaiting for a bus. And on an arrest...being bailed out by the system and coming driver alone doesn't work unless you have a BLSFR person able to ride with you. Kind of hard to do compressions, bag and push meds by yourself. Even worse...try standing there watching a diff breather that you've pretty much either dumped all available meds into or for the CHF'er your popping nitro like chicklets and wondering when the heck your going to be able to even begin your transport. Then factor in how many agencies bill and then still don't have coverage or can't get another agency to agree to share resources for one reason or another.

Not a matter of swallowing pride? No offense but I don't know when the last time you were involved in any agency or the last time you were in this area, but I hate to be blunt...your flat out wrong. Why else would the so the called leaders of some of these agencies flat out either deny they have a problem...sometimes in public...on public record or turn a blind eye to the issue? Why then are often the first paid staff to work treated with such animosity in many areas or if another emergency service is able and willing to either take on more responsibility or flat out take over a broken system that endangers public safety flat out labeled as "trying to take over." Instead of trying to actually provide adequate service. Yes you might in some aspect have to wait for a bus on occasion. But this is another instance where centralized dispatching with priority labeling helps. Not everyone needs an ambulance within 3 minutes. The finger injury and alike can wait. And I'll take my chances on the paid crew then waiting on the 5th agency being dispatched often from another county.

    Enough is enough.

AMEN Brother!!!! Been with ya on a few of those calls, waiting and waiting and waiting and having the patient and or family keep asking when the ambulance is coming and having to tell them it's coming from two towns over.

Keep venting on here so I dont have to listen to you bi#%h at the next run  Just kiddin bro LOL Be safe

Man dies after his genitals were set alight by his wife

Royal Adelaide Hospital, where Satish Narayan died after suffering horrific burns to most of his body

Warning: The following story contains details some may find disturbing. Discretion is advised.

There is a fine line between love and hate and prosecutors in Australia claim a 44-year-old woman crossed it last month. She's now facing murder charges in a horrific case of jealousy taken too far.

Authorities in the city of Adelaide allege Rajini Narayan became incensed when she saw her husband hug another woman back in December. But what police allege she did next is simply beyond comprehension. They believe she doused her sleeping husband's genitals with an alcohol based solvent and then set the mixture on fire.

When the searing pain woke 47-year-old Satish Narayan, he jumped out of bed, knocking over a bottle of alcohol. The liquid caused the fire to spread and quickly set the house on fire.

The townhome and an adjacent property both burned, with damage estimates pegged at around Cdn$845,000.%20news=2831" target="_blank">Link to full news story
