  2. Anybody know why the rear hatch is all cut up?

    13c.JPG

I would say that all of the locks on the Tahoe are battery actuated - even by key. Since there is nothing left of the electrical system, this was the only safe way to get to all of the EMS supplies. Shattering the glass would have sprayed glass over all of the smoke/water contaminated supplies and equipment I guess.

Of course this is a hypothetical guess.

  3. our original Quint 2

1972 American LaFrance 100ft. midship Aerial Ladder 1250GPM waterous Dual stage pump including 300 gal tank, ground ladders included 40ft. Bangor Ladder. 400ft. 1 1/2" hoselines in crosslays, 1300ft 3" Supply hose in hosebed under aerial. 150' 3" supply hose for ladderpipe. Booster reel located under ground ladders in the rear (oranginly in first compartment on passengers side before being refrurbished). one of the first Lime Green truck in Westchester and also one of the first Quints in the county. A great truck that fought many fire throughout the County.

Ahhh yes.... Good old Agnes.... That truck made some serious impressions at the 68 East Hartsdale Ave fire in the early 90's when it operated its ladder pipe while supplying a Yonkers engine and New Rochelle ladder... Good times!!

  4. Actually I should have mentioned these pictures were taken several years ago. The fate of the old Quad was decided soon after the time of these pictures.

What was the fate of my favorite truck???

I remember going to Brookfield and grabbing that Aerodynic from an old FDNY engine and mounting it to the bumper. It added a lot more visibility. Mind you, the Twin Sonic on the roof was replaced with a Whalen full-size strobe bar back in the day.

  5. It is with deep regret that The Elmsford Fire Department announces the passing of Raymond Rush, Ex-Chief of the Department, Life Member of the Live Oak Engine Company and former Westchester County Fire Coordinator. Funeral Services are as follows:

Tuesday, Dec 7th from 4pm to 8pm at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, Stevens Ave., Hawthorne New York.

Wednesday, Dec 8th, 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 59 E. Main St., Elmsford, New York.

Department Services will be on Tuesday Dec 7th at 6:30 pm at the Hawthorne Funeral Home. All members to report in full dress uniform.

  6. $1.06 Million... and no audible or visual alarms for an open door?

We had this happen on our 1994 Pierce TL... There was a visual alert -- a flashing red light on the cab's ceiling. The day after this happened, I added a small piezzo speaker (alarm) to the light ($1.50 at Radio Shack). The good thing was that if a compartment door was open, you heard the alarm. The bad thing was that when a door was opened (and left open) you also heard the alarm.

IMHO there should be an alarm for compartment doors being open that activates when the truck is put in gear, and a seperate alarm for a door open.

As for the damage to the building..... that's an aweful lot of damage. The door is likely aluminum and should have just continued to fold rather than the bricks breaking apart.

  7. OK, here's a problem I've never had before and I hope you guys can help.

Today, I went down to south Austin to photograph Quint 27 (http://www.emtbravo.net/index.php?showtopic=37913). It was in the 70's, with higher than normal (usually none) humidity.

My Canon 40D DSLR sits in my office in a nylon bag in a shelf in my closet of my office, in the cold A/C that I keep my office at. I hang a Damprid bag in the closet to keep out any moisture.

Today, I drove down to south Austin from Round Rock (about 40 minutes) with my A/C going.

I take the camera out to ph0otograph the quint, and my lens fogs up. Wipe it off and clean it with a solution, stillo fogged up. Luckily, I had my backup Canon Powershot 12MP digital camera.

    How do I prevent this?

Here's something I learned in Aruba -- cold A/C in the room and 90 degrees with 90% humidity outside.

Take a Ziplock bag and put the camera in it.

Remove as much air from the bag as possible.

15 minutes before you plan to use the camera, put the zipped bag into the temp/humidity environment you're going to shoot in

Take the camera out of the bag.

    That's it. No fog.

Mind you, a vacuum bag machine (like a FoodSaver) works the best for this.

I laughed when someone told be about it after 4 days of major fogging on my Nikon D5000. Sure enough -- it didn't fog after the bag trick!!!!

    Good luck.

    Jeff.

  9. Has anyone had trunk frequency scanning problems recently?

Minimal radio traffic and when received only parts of conversations.

I inputted two new trunk frequencies from 60-Control, but that hasn't fixed the problem.

    Feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Come on Syd -- You'll be a DC soon enough with a new portable.... Whaddya need a scanner for?????? And BTW - nice pun... feedback??? Radios??? Great!!!

  10. thanks much appreciated

Vinegar??? Bad choice - it will leave a residue and eventually cause corrosion. Whenever dealing with electronics, ALWAYS use isopropyl rubbing alcohol (90% is perfect). You can actually soak the laptop in it (if you really had to) and after letting it dry for a few days, it'll work fine.

Seriously, you can soak the keyboard in it for 15 minutes (take the kbd out of the computer first).

A majority of the smoke smell is going to be located within the heat sync and cooling fins on the laptop. This is where the dist accumulates - dust will absorb the smoke.

Get a can of Dust-Off and blow out every orifice of the laptop. I suggest doing this outside. Also, do NOT use a compressor - the pressure is way too high and will likely cause damage.

I'm not making this up -- I'm a Dell Certified Tech and this is based on their recommendations. Done it all before with 100% success.
