  1. Whether or not she has a license or has a beef against PD or any other reason... this woman was holding a sign! Too bad if PD doesn't like it. Its a sign. Sorry guys, get up and move. Its her right to hold that sign and she should be commended for the guts to hold that sign. Someone needs to remind the government that the people have real rights, like free speech which includes holding up simple signs, especially if its a sign that annoys the police. Its just how it works. The same First Amendment right that Neo-Nazis have, or the people who hold up those nasty signs at military funerals. "I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it" -Voltaire... Especially what anyone has to say about government, the state, or the police. It's one of those rules of how democracy can survive
  2. We have a set full year schedule of drills in The Falls. Spreading out our training and keeping to the basics because of the volunteer nature of the department. These drills are conducted by the lieutenants (of which I am one) with the assistance of upper officers and we have the latitude to spread open drills and add on to them as we see fit. Every once in a while we will do more advanced training. The biggest thing I do as a lieutenant, I think, is to not only hold drills on drill night, but when I have a large enough group of guys hanging out, is to have an impromptu drill on any night, whether its just going over the trucks and the tools, or actually going out and using them. Wasted time hanging around, is wasted time not training. Or as I like to say to my guys... "Its a firehouse, not a hang out"

From lohud.com: http://www.lohud.com/article/20120229/NEWS/302290067/Mahopac-Falls-firefighters-help-Carmel-cop-subdue-drunken-driving-suspect?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage MAHOPAC — Volunteers from the Mahopac Falls Fire Department helped a Carmel police officer subdue a drunken-driving suspect Monday night after he resisted arrest, police said.
  4. Scum.. I agree.. he should be dragged to outside 133's doors
  5. I just checked.. you can still write.. and nothing has been deleted.. God help him if his office decided to censor the public
  6. Governor Christie's Facebook page has blown with tons of comments against him and many people have called his office. I have left my own sentiments on his fb page and plan to call his office tomorrow when I'm not working... If you want to call too his office number is 609-292-6000... Let him know this will not be tolerated
  7. The Mahopac Falls Vol. Fire Dept will be hosting something for this. Plans are still in the works.
  8. Reading what has happened has now made me want to go back to my dept and rethink our response for gas leaks. Currently we roll just our rescue truck and while we have every once in a while wondered why that is it and not add an engine, its never gotten that far. Hopefully after this situation we can reevaluate how we handle these situations. But I am just a lonely lieutenant but can try to persude the chiefs. Also, we have many members who like to show up at scenes with no gear on and go into houses (old timers and newbies). And this came up at our last meeting and I strongly stressed for everyone to wear their gear, no matter what the call. Hopefully this incident will spread to every dept and member THAT GEAR SAVES LIVES!... We have this gear and these Scott paks... wear them and use them.
  9. So odd but really not... From a city 8 million strong to the county I work as a dispatcher of 113,000 strong... its all the same But I will add this.. after 8+ years of dispatching, APCO is a waste of time and didn't change anything other than getting comm centers to pay money to say we were certified in something... and EMD is the biggest waste of time in EMS dispatch history. Except in cases of CPR and choking, the questions asked for EMD are just a waste time and do not affect at all how EMS will work a scene... this I know from being on both sides of the radio While I would like to continue, since it is so rare to see a communications topic get so much response, I would like to keep my job, and TPTB don't like dissent from those who actually know........ but such is the burden of knowing there is better, and sometimes everything new, doesn't always mean its better

  11. "Putnam 911 to Mahopac Falls Fire, status" "Single, but engaged. Hit'em again" "Eenie meanie miney moe, how do you read my radio?" "Putnam 911 to __1-1, still no response, what's your pleasure" "__1-1 to Putnam, this isn't the time or place, I'm in the middle of an emergency" And my favorite: "107 to Control, I'm gonna be here for a while. It's like an arrest jackpot"
  12. I am looking to propose to build a wooden ventilation simulator at my firehouse. I was hoping if anyone has any help, may have done this and has plans for such a thing, or any other help. I'm not looking into buying commercially build system. Rather, something to be built by ourselves. We have many members with roofing experience. Thanks for any help
  13. I would lean more towards plywood sheets for ease of replacement.
  14. I am looking to build a combined flat roof and peak simulator, whether its two different sections or adjustable. Thanks
  15. I actually just completed setting up and executing this drill a week and a half ago for my department (Mahopac Falls). It involved a large school bus and a car with 14 patients and I had 3 other FD's and a total of 6 ambulances. If you want any help or have any questions, pm me and we can exchange numbers. I learned alot in hind sight as well and would like to pass it on. So yep, let me know. Anthony Nistico, Lieutenant Mahopac Falls F.D.
  16. What day is this being held?
  17. This seems like a really good deal. How old is the computer? $500 is a great price for a toughtbook. And it will work just like if I got it from Panasonic?
  18. Yes. I believe the stipend is either $4,000 or $6,0000 Also, one of my friends did receive his number on the list
  19. Bump... Mahopac Falls Car Show
  20. Who numbered these things??? 31-9-whatever.... that 9 means officer other than chief... if anything they should be 31-8-whatever... but I agree.. really? bikes?
  21. I'm wearing the Morning Pride Ben 2 as well. I find it very comfortable, and very stable when wearing a a mask, and the Bourkes are now NFPA 1971 rated. It also still has the very traditional American style to it. I bought mine personal as well since my dept issues the 1010's, so it is expensive but well worth it.
  22. That's freaking epic... well done.. i was ready to drive there and beat this mayor
  23. 5 in 1 tool (spanner, gas shut off, seat belt cutter, window punch, chock); 4 in 1 screw driver; pen and paper; trauma shears; 4 inch folding knife; 10 ft of rope in my radio pocket; 30 ft of bailout roper in one pant pocket; 2 10 ft webbings in the other pant pocket; and extrication in my inside coat pocket
  24. I have a garrity light on my helmet, my own survivor on my coat, and my own vulcan light on a strap with a quick release. They all go with me to every call.
  25. OMG I know... Two of the most useless phrases I've ever heard in my 8 years of dispatching. It's another fault of bad training.
