  1. Division 1 and Division 3 have command posts set up. Water Taxi's were first on scene and are rescuing victims of the plane "crash" or water landing. Batt. 6 is the resource liaison.
  2. I agree with this! It is Federal, it could be a major Emergency, and need to be Managed...
  3. I think I am the only one that ever does that anymore! Just not every hour!
  4. Doc, are you hearing the channel identifier? We only use alert tones on felonies and such that are in progress or to air bolo's.
  5. Well I guess that is a good thing...didn't get that far yet...still trying to figure out cost-benefit/risk numbers...don't know anyone in particular who has them yet.
  6. No numbers added and for S's and G's I checked the 911 call log...it says we picked up 911 103,798 times in 2008. Those include all 911 calls including payphones, hang up, calls for service, cell phone transfers from the TMC, and there are some duplicates, i.e. if 2 people anwer phone, it generates 2 911 numbers...unk reason for that. Also includes our very good friend Mr. Decicco who called 7000 times on his own...
  7. I've been considering adding solar panels to my house for some time. Some research shows that the amount of energy you produce can be introduced into the grid and the electric company will pay you for it as you pay for it now. However expensive they are, using renewable energy sources is important too. I think a solution would be that town's require homeowners to notify the building department and the fire department upon installation so that they are aware of it prior to an incident.
  8. Yonkers 911 dispatchers entered 157784 calls into CAD "last year"... YFD had 15220 Calls reported, those are all types of calls.
  9. It's all 1 and 3 across the board unless there are "extras" out there. Then they get assigned to Ladders/Rescue first.
  10. And the one sent to NY's governor was sent to Pataki...guess the moe-ron didn't see a newspaper in the past couple of years!
  11. Thank you Ryan Seacrest! And Seth, I'd be careful, Tommy once ripped me in half...thank God McGurty was working!
  12. Date: 12/19/08 Time: 2200 Location: 381 Chesterfield Dr x Dover St/Cross Rd (Google Map Link-click here) Frequency: 46.26 Units Operating: LMFD Description Of Incident: Fire in the walls Writer: O-Wind
  13. Frank? Congrats to Steve Faughnan! and of course to Antonucci and Falcone on the promos!
  14. Senor Nechis seems to always have great points. I look forward to the day the members of the Tri-Village, where I live (Buchanan, Verplank, and Montrose), decide to do this. They already tone out all 3 departments so they have enough manpower responding on structure fires. 3 stations would be fine, but cut the excess equipment, have "3" fire chiefs, 1 elected from each of the prior departments that all have equal power and run a schedule of who is covering 1st alarm, 2nd alarm, and so on and then have line officers at each station. No offense to any of the members, but Buchanan really does not need their own Rescue truck when Montrose has a heavy rescue and Verplank has a rescue pumper. So if the plan to replace the "bread van" is not just rumor than I opposed to it. The volunteers have to be just as responsible fiscally as I do for my own family, and they need to remember that all that equipment is costing them in their own property taxes too. A reduction would not only make sense, but would save them money in the long run. There are not too many volunteers that don't live in their own response area. Combining of services may not be what everyone wants, but this is 2008 and will be 2009 real soon. It is a time for change!
  15. Dennis was talking about the schools. Not only is the plan to cut the SRO positions but also the Brd of Ed funded school safety officers. This leaves the Yonkers School District with 0 public safety services...btw there are gangs in Yonkers and due to a previous discrimination lawsuit, kids are bussed all over the city! So, I guess violence in the schools will become a problem...well not guess!
  16. Looks Greeeeaaattt! Can I put up the spy shots now??? When is it going in service?
  17. So you told me to go to Post 1 and you went to the fire...no way!
  18. Wasn't this in 2000 when the mechanic dropped his "drop light" on the floor while working on a gas tank? I believe I may have called it in...I was working A20 and was enroute back to Yonkers on the Sprain and we saw a big puff of black smoke all of a sudden!
  19. Date: 12/01/08 Time: 2209 Location: 55 Palisade Av, IFO Mr. Special (Store) Frequency: YPD 1 & 2, Empress Units Operating: 4Pct, Housing, DD, CIU, ESU, Street Crime, Empress Medics Description Of Incident: 2 Persons shot Writer: O-Wind Numerous calls of at least 10 shots fired. 1 male shot in back, another shot in foot. Units canvassing and securing crime scene. (1) victim to Jacobi and (1) to St. Joe's via Empress.
  20. I am under the understanding that at one time the state determined the colors of police cars or something of that nature. Cities were the blue color that we saw in NYC, Yonkers (remember?), New Ro and others...Villages were a different blue like the old Elmsford or Buchanan Cars...and State were the dark blue which they remain today. This information was given to me years ago from a certain Buchanan PD Detective...
  21. Andy Spano has got to GO! Westchester County government either has to downsize or some smaller locals governments have to be absorbed into it to reduce the number of spending plans! Another tax increase, the bulk of it appears to be so one of these politicians can get another raise on their non-full time job? Oh, and I like how they get to decide upon their own raises. Is this Wall Street????? When the taxpayers have no more money to give, will the Feds bail out Westchester too? The voters should decide whether the County Government deserves a raise. They are not under contract and technically work for the people. Maybe it is time they took a cut in pay, got rid of their county vehicles and/or drivers and gave something back for all they have gotten!
  22. Wow, this is just crazy. How can you ASSUME how fast they were travelling? How can you assume they were even responding to a call? How can you assume anything? The fact of the matter was there was a serious accident! It involves a piece of apparatus and apparently another MOS of some sort. It could have involved neither and no one would make any assumptions, in fact 3/4 of us wouldn't have even known this incident occurred. It takes a lot more than a few pictures to investigate an accident, including measurements and mathematics, but what about interviews? I agree that some people operating at the scene were violating safety rules, but I haven't seen a job pictured on here yet where everyone was in 100% compliance! Let's wait and see what the REAL answers are, someone foil the report and post it. Then we can have a dialogue about what we think should change or not change, but until that is done, stop pointing fingers!
  23. 545 Westbrook, would that be the house up on the hill as you go around the curve toward PV? The big one that they just added on like 3000 sq feet? If it was, that must have been fun! I used to spend a lot of time at 569 for those who know me!
  24. That is the one I was thinking of. That house was like a 1500 sq foot place 5-6years ago...they quadrupled it over a few years! And then the market went to crap...oh, have they determined a cause???
