  8. as far as I know, PCP/Dust isn't as big a problem as the bath salts/spice in SoCal....Meth is the biggest problem in SoCal, use and manufacture....
  9. Merry Christmas Cogs....and nice lyrics from I Believe in Father Christmas
  10. Thanks for the laugh Cogs...it wasn't at you, it was with you....and it reminds me of an incident while stationed in the beautiful land of the morning calm, Korea... It's December, and the wing decides to hold an operational exercise. As the first day starts, the base gets hit with the first snowfall of the year. The part of the wing I was assigned to was on a ROKAF base 20 miles north of the main base, so as we participate we're having to avoid the Koreans doing their normal day to day duties. And even though it is an Air Force base, the Korean Army does security. They use 6 wheel LAVs (Light Armored Vehicles) and while driving along the perimeter road one hits some ice and hits the brick perimeter wall, taking out about 75'. We're now stuck on the main side of the base due to the rig blocking the road, and can't respond to the bomb dump or even to our shops. They had to suspend the exercise due to it... Stay safe and keep your head down over there...

  12. Today, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month of 2011, we will pause to honor America’s Veterans and celebrate their contributions to our way of life. Few have given more to our Nation than the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces in peace and in war. Joel McCrae's "In Flanders Fields" from WW1 In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. To those who served, or actively serve today, thank you for your dedication and service.
  13. Another fad drug, at least here is California is "Spice". A synthetic drug that mimics marijuana, isn't detectible in drug tests but accelerates psycosis in moderate to heavy users. Many military members were using it, but were found out and are now being discharged (on what charges I can't recall. Many cities in San Diego County have put regulations in place to control the sale of spice and salts in smoke shops, while the state attempts to pass legislation to make these illegal.
  14. where's the inflight coffee refueling probe???
  15. Get well soon, Captain....hurry back to the boards
  16. Last weekend I did the 5 hour drive to the Phoenix suburb of Glendale for their Fire Prevention Week Parade. This was their 29th annual, and seemed a little smaller than in past years. I still got some good shots, which I'll share here. I got there a little late, so I didn't get my normal shots of the rigs as they lined up prior. Enjoy!! Photo #1-Glendale FD E154-E-One Photo #2-Glendale FD E156-E-One Photo #3-Glendale FD E158-E-One Photo #4-Glendale FD Ladder Tender 155-Crimson-This is used like a ladder service rig. Used on medical aids and other type calls rather than the ladder/truck going out to save wear and tear on the truck.
  17. Just like the Daytona did on everyone???
  18. Thanks Pete and Seth for the comments... As for Phoenix Valley Apparatus, it seems like the east side, with the exception of Tempe and Scottsdale (both have ALFs) everyone is running Quantums. West side it's basically take your pick, each department is pretty different (Glendale E-One, Goodyear Pierce but not Quantum etc). Thats why I like the parade. One year I was there and got photos of a rig from every department in the valley.
  19. forgot these photos this morning... just a couple of assorted rigs from the valley... Photo #3 in a Community Education rig from Southwest Ambulance
  20. and last but not least yours truly....
  21. departments out here generally don't do a whole lot with lights and other extras, but found an engine from El Mirage with a rotor ray...
  22. Sun City West has a huge midmount by Rosebauer...
  23. more rigs....
  24. more rigs from the parade....with the crowd I really didn't have time to get rig info. Besides, JBE can attest I am notoriously bad about getting rig info...
